People are already bad mouthing Calzaghe on the internet that he ducked Pavlik. I would hate to have seen Pavlik vs Calzaghe because they are 2 of my favorite fighters and one of them would have a loss after the fight. If the fight did happen I think Pavlik would have taken it. He definetely wouldn't be able to outwork Calzaghe but he has too much power for Joe and would win by knockout.

Calzagheis ducking Pavlik. I understand he wants to finish undefeated, but if he is going to call out Pavlik by saying Mikkel Kessler is a better fighter than him, than i feel he is obligated to give Pavlik a shot. Obviously in the back of his mind he has to fear Pavlik a little. I like Calzaghe but not as much as Pavlik. Both have such contrasting styles that it would be an awesome fight!!

Here'sjust onearticle where he states Kessler is better

I truly believe Pavlik would beat Calzaghe. This fight would end with Pavlik knocking Calzaghe out in the middle rounds.

Pavlik will have to have a more convincing win than Calzaghe to silence the black supremacists.

I agree. A convincing win over Hopkins will be tremendous. Go Pavlik!!

Then Calzaghe has to go on to beat Roy Jones JR. If both these things happen, what will the black power American sports media say this time? The Luginbills will be having a fit!

Jones hasn't had an important win since 2003, so I think it'll be pretty easy for the media/ fans to downplay a Calzaghe victory. Glenn Johnson would've been a better fight, but it seems pretty obvious that Calzaghe is looking for a big payday and the preservation of his unbeaten record more than a "legacy" fight.

Unfortunately, you're absolutely right. He basically said that Pavlik isn't deserving of the fight. Oh, and Peter Manfredo was?!

Me, too. I like them both but Pavlik's my favorite.

I like Calzaghe better. He is closer to my heritage b/c he is half Welsh who are Celtic peoples, just like the Irish and Scots. And Pavlik apparently was on the campaign trail for either Obama or Hilary I can't remember which, so he is obviously quite the liberal if he would choose the far left over a just to the right of center McCain.

Well, Pavlik is as white as it gets, and so am I, so that's good enough for me!
smiley36.gif
Yes, he did endorse Hillary, but I don't hold that against him. McCain is way too much of a warmonger for me anyway. That's the main political issue for me. No more unnecessary wars. Although Hillary said that she would "annihilate Iran" if she had to. Not exactly "far left" rhetoric!
smiley36.gif

And it's not like McCain is somehow good for white people because he's labeled himself a "conservative" or "Republican." The only rational basis, that I can think of, for voting for McCain is that he's pro-life. That's about it. Who knows, maybe a black person being President will get everybody off our backs. It will prove that there isn't some conspiracy to "keep the black man down." Can white people really be so evil if the son of a Kenyan goatherder can be President? Me thinks not. But if McCain beats Obama... oh boy. The floodgates of hatred, anger, bitterness, and accusations of racism will open up and flood White America.... Edited by: JD074

JD074, I say start building another Arc for that flood of hate. What is the difference now? When you finish that boat(s) just have some port holes for some canons to defend yourself.

Regarding Pavlik's support of Hillary, he is just misguided IMO. But he is still my favorite fighter.

September and October are killing me with anxiety. The Pavlik fight and the return of Vitali. Vitali can be the best again if he's at even 80 percent of what he was. He is better than Wladimir.

If you remember when Calzage fought Hopkins, he backed Bernard to the ropes on many occasions during the fight. That is right where the Ghost will be able to drop tons of rights on " BHop" Look for a knock out by the Ghost in the middle 6-8 rounds. Something on the lines of what he did to Edison, with devastating results! I can't wait for a "white boy" to finally finish this washed up marathon running, grab and jabber once and for all.

On another note, Hopkins will have never been hit like he will be by Kelly, I'm hoping for some lingering after-effects similar to Ali's Parkinson's, yeah that will be an awesome legacy the for racist Hopkins. Something a white boy gave him that he can carry the rest of his life.

Right on white noise. I am really hoping for a KO. Kelly has all the tools to do it. That would really shut Hopkins mouth because you know if the fight is even a little close and Pavlik wins Hopkins will say he won. He was a sore loser after the Calzaghe fight running his mouth and he will do the same after the Pavlik fight unless he get's knocked out.

I find it funny he is giving Pavlik respect unlike Calzaghe. I think it's just so that if he loses he doesn't look stupid.

Well, I'm certainly not hoping for Hopkins to get Parkinson's, but I will admit I want to see him get beat up pretty good.

Given how utterly exhausted Hopkins was during the Calzaghe fight, if Pavlik can go to the body, he can wear down that old body even more than Calzaghe did. I hope Pavlik is strong enough to free his arms and really work over the body on the inside. His inside fighting against Zuniga was really good. Of course, Zuniga is no Hopkins. Hopkins' clinching has served him well in the past, but he'll expend a lot of energy wrestling with a big, strong guy like Pavlik.

I think he knows he can't play mind games with Pavlik. Pavlik already had two guys try with him and it blew up their faces(Miranda and Taylor). Pavlik is old school and just goes to work. Also there genuinely might be respect as Pavlik had nothing handed to him and has had to earn everything he has gotten in the ring. Edited by: white is right

Well I guess your right JD074, it's not right to wish someone a disease like that. Even a racist, ex-con like Hopkins deserves respect... Oh the hell with it, I want Kelly to beat the dog sh*te of him.

I wasn't really thinking about respect when I wrote that. I can't say that I respect Hopkins much. But I can't wish a disease on someone, even if I don't respect him. Maybe a murderer....

Oh the hell with it, I want Kelly to beat the dog sh*te of him.

Right on! We can agree on that.

There really isn't much Hopkins can do to win this fight. He's not fast enough of foot or hand to out-manoeuver Pavlik, and his 60mm gun is no match for Pavlik's 90mm King Tiger gun. Pavlik's jab will stay parked on Hopkin's face all night followed by power shots in bunches and in varieties of combinations. I don't expect Pavlik to run out of fuel whereas Hopkins' tank is limited and low from the get go. Volume beats Hopkins as we have seen with Calzaghe and Taylor. Volume and power not only beats Hopkins but knocks him out. When a big name in boxing gets knocked out ESPN usually lets everyone know. Do not expect that this time. (Shhh! We can't let everyone know the white men are kicking the sh*t out of the black boys).

This is one of the most important, "must win" caste fights of the year.

As long as Kelly doesn't get cut by a headbutt, he shouldn't have a problem.

Speaking of the headbutt, or butt punch, here's an article from Cleveland.com:

Boxing Insider: Pavlik prepares diligently
by From staff reports
Monday October 13, 2008, 8:33 AM

Associated Press
Kelly Pavlik celebrates his win over Bernard Hopkins.Kelly Pavlik has covered all his bases.

As the middleweight champion closes in on Saturday's nontitle match against Bernard Hopkins in Atlantic City, N.J., the Youngstown fighter has also gone out of his way to protect his, well, dignity. Pavlik and trainer Jack Loew brought in sparring partners Zack Page, James Countryman and Byron Mitchell, the latter a pretty good lookalike for the veteran Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs).

Team Pavlik expects Hopkins to pull out all his veteran tricks, especially early, to stymie Pavlik and get him off the offensive.

"I've always been compared to Hopkins," said Mitchell (25-4-1, 18 KOs), a two-time super middleweight champion from Ozark, Ala. "Kelly is a lot stronger than he looks. I've tried some of those tricks."

Mitchell said hitting in the clinch, banging on the thigh, bumping with the shoulders and elbows, along with slamming Pavlik in the butt are just some of the tactics to be expected.

"You can prepare for that," said Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs). "First we come to fight. Then we'll deal with that other stuff."

Hopkins likes to jump forward with a leaping right hand and keeps his head down while he does it. Check the tapes if you don't remember and you will see it time and again. To counter it, I hope Jack Loew is training Kelly to maintain his feet while slipping to the right and coming up underneath with a right uppercut. If you have boxed to will know what I mean. The counter right uppercut will kill Hopkins' leaping right and if it doesn't knock him out it will stop him from trying it again. But if I see this I'm sure Loew sees this and they have been working on it.

Kelly will simply need to use his great jab at a distance. The Ghost should control the action while driving B-Hype into the ropes. At that point, Kelly just needs to time the Hopkins headbutt leap, take a step back, then follow up with a straight right, or a left uppercut or a combination left hook/right cross while the prison punk Slopkins is resetting.
Most fighters get caught in the Slopkins web of dirty tricks once they drive him to the ropes. The key is moving back a step or two in order to avoid the head, elbows and shoulder thrusts from B-Hype. Kelly by knock-out, or B-Hype quitting on stool, or claiming a phantom low-blow, or getting himself disqualified, either way the Ghost wins!

If Pavlik wins - whether by knockout, TKO, or decision, he won't get any credit or respect because he beat an "old man".

If Pavlik loses it will be another excuse to gush on and on about what an all-time great Hopkins is.

So, no matter what, Pavlik isn't going to make any friends with the media. It will be lose-lose for him.

Even if Sugar Ray Robinson's zombie were to surface somewhere and box a fifteen rounder with Pavlik, and Pavlik punches Sugar Ray Zombieson's head off, people will gush about how great a fighter Sugar was for coming back from the dead. Pavlik would be booed for a racist hate crime against a black Halloween monster.

Nuts to that, whatever. I hope Pavlik beats Hopkins just for the sake of hitting that racist clown repeatedly on his silly clown face.

... Though, if Pavlik does win, watch how the media will try to say he's part Black or part Mexican or part Elf or whatever -- anything is better than giving credit to a white man when such credit is due.

Hopkins has never been knocked out. If any boxer today has the power to knock him out it's Pavlik. Funny Hopkins isn't talking his usual trash to Pavlik. I think he knows what he's in for.

I hope I am wrong, but I do not think Pavlik will knock out Hopkins. Hopkins has always been a great defensive fighter with a solid chin and as he has aged, he has become more cautious and defensive minded. Also, while Kelly is a devasting puncher at 160, moving up in weight 10 pounds will have an effect on his punching power....how much of an effect remains to be seen.

My feeling is that as long as he does not let Hopkins trick him into a "Hopkins" fight with excessive clinching and fouling, Kelly will win by unanimous decision.

Again, I hope I am wrong and Pavlik can knock him out but I would be very happy with a clear cut victory.

Very true pt guard. However if anyone has a chance to do it it's Pavlik. Hopkins will probably resort to his tactics of holding and tying up. Pavlik could also take a cautious approach like he did with Taylor in the second fight and just win on points. We'll know tomorrow.
