Perfect analysis, Mapleleaf.

I'm glad that guys on this forum arent outright "predicting" Oleg to win this fight, but rather, are being honest. I think most of us agree it could easily go either way, and most likely Peter will win due to Oleg's inactivity and injuries. I believe in Maskaev, and if nothing else, his fights are normally very entertaining.

None of us here seem to have any delusions of grandure concerning this fight, which is good, because it might be a VERY big letdown should Peter win easily.

I think we all owe Oleg Maskaev a great amount of graditude for having the guts to make such an amazing comback this late in his career. If nothing else, we'll remember the night he KOed Rahman for the second time...and from that summer night until now, every champion was a white man.

Maple Leaf: I especially liked,He does not seem to learn-on-the-go during fights and this has been his downfall, in your analysis of Peter.

Yeah, let`s just hope Maskaev has one more great performance left!

Eastsideboxing actually had a good article regarding this fight.  http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=14695&more=1

Eastsideboxing has improved a lot since I started this thread almost a year ago. There are still a few negative articles, but a lot more good ones like the one you mentioned. There seem to be more fans of the white fighters posting in the forums on ESB and boxingscene.

I know you from boxingscene, Shawn1262231. Under your avatar on that site, there's a champagne bottle I sent to you after Wlad defeated Brewster last July!

Welcome to castefootball, Shawn! It's good to see we'll have another knowledgeable boxing fan posting here.

Check the boxingscene.com "non-stop boxing" forum, or the boxrec.com "current scene" forum. Somebody may post a link just before the fight.

I'll be watching the HBO broadcast on TSN. Last time, we had to pay $50 for the Ibragimov vs. Klitschko fight here in Canada on a special PPV, but this one is being carried for free by TSN, perhaps since it involves a black heavyweight. Our main boxing man at TSN, Russ Anber, has an infatuation with black boxers, so he was probably instrumental in TSN's decision to carry the fight.Edited by: JD1986

JD, will you be able to do a round by round for those of us who won't be able to watch the fight?

I really believe Maskaev can win this one. I remember when he was stopped by T-Rex. I thought his career was over then, but he really got himself back into the mix. Peter is VERY overrated. He does posses power, which happens to correspond with Maskaev's weakness (his chin). However, Maskaev is no punk in the ring, he also has a lot of power, and in my opinion, better boxing skills than Peter. Not to mention, we really don't know much about Peter's chin. Klitschko did fight a very defensive fight against Peter, so he didn't throw a lot of power shots, but still rocked Peter a few times. Of course in Peter's last fight he was beaten around pretty good by McCline, who has no power.

Maskaev can take this fight. We could really use a victory!

The fight will start at apx 10:30 on Saturday. TSN will pick up the fight at midnight on Sunday about half an hour after the HBO broadcast ends.

Turns out, you're right. I'll be watching a delayed broadcast on TSN here in Canada so if I do a round-by-round it won't be on time.

But someone always does a round-by-round for the big fights at BOXREC FORUMS (Current Scene), or at the main BOXINGSCENE FORUM .

All of the sites someone is doing a round by round sopcast should have a broadcast but it should be choppy, the broadcast will be better for listening than watching.

According to Kevin Iole, the crappy Yahoo boxing guy, a Peter win over Maskaev would be the best thing for the heavyweight division. He bashes Oleg over and over in his most recent article on Yahoo, and tries to build up his boy Sam Peter as the division`s savior. However, he can`t make a convincing argument that Peter has done much at all in recent fights against generally suspect competition-try as he might. His wigger identity shows through with the following insult to whites:

But if recent form is a factor, King wonÂÂft get his moneyÂÂfs worth when Peter, who is the WBCÂÂfs interim heavyweight champion, meets WBC champion Oleg Maskaev on Saturday at the Plaza de Toros.

Peter has had only one knockout in his last six outings, a first-round stoppage of the inept Julius Long on April 28, 2006. HeÂÂfs 5-1 in that span, losing only to Klitschko, but heÂÂfs been forced to go to a decision by James Toney twice, Jameel McCline and Robert Hawkins.

McCline, who is massive but not known as a puncher, had Peter down three times in their Oct. 6 bout, but Peter never was close to putting McCline away. And Peter without power, well, is not nearly as dangerous. ItÂÂfs kind of like taking a pair of 30-homer guys out of the lineup and hoping to score as many runs.

Bobby Goodman, the long-time Don King Productions executive, said the power outage is simply a matter of competition.

ÂÂgYou have to look at who heÂÂfs fighting, obviously,ÂÂh King said. ÂÂgJames Toney is a pretty tough cookie, a real durable guy. So is Jameel McCline. He had Toney down and he beat him convincingly. He also bounced Klitschko around. I donÂÂft see anything wrong with him.ÂÂh

The Lakers, though, probably wouldnÂÂft be too happy were Kobe Bryant to morph into John Stockton.

What in the world does a retarded hypothetical comparison betweenthe great John Stockton and Kobe Bryant have to do with this?

C`mon Oleg, knock out SamPeter and leave Kevin Iole to write some more horror stories abouthow the heavyweight division is finished without a black savior.

As I have stated, Oleg will have his hands full with Peter. If he can avoid Peter's power and do to him what he did to Rahman, he should win by late round KO. Rahman was a more complete fighter than Peter. The question is how much does Oleg have left? I suspect he might have enough.

By the way this is a significant fight in that if Oleg wins, he will have gotten rid of the last black hope currently percieved as the 'savior' of boxing according to that self loathing writer for Yahoo. If Oleg wins I would love to rub it in his face! This is the type of writer who damages white youth and attempts to plant image that we are inferior.

These wigger bitches really piss me off. The heavyweight division does not need a "saviour" to begin with, and even if it did how would an inarticulate, beefy ass African with zero charisma qualify as such? Of the top white heavies out there, Maskeav is Peter's best bet, and Peter may well win, but that won't change the fact that he's been exposed as over-rated in his last five fights. I can think of at least a half dozen East Euro heavies that can beat him. And when one does, I hope he knocks Mr. Saviour through the ropes and right into the lap of Mr. Kevin Iole.

"Nigerian Nightmare" my ass. The only way Peter might ever be that is if he retires from boxing and starts working a phone for some Lagos lottery scam.

More crap and carelessness from Kevin Iole at Yahoo in his article, "Maskaev finally returns to spotlight":

King screeched into the microphone incessantly and waved the flags of the U.S., Mexico and Nigeria, where Peter was born. WBC president Jose Sulaiman handed out plaques to about anyone official looking, while Dr. Clement Aduku, whom King introduced as the Nigerian ambassador to Mexico, proudly displayed a t-shirt that read, ÂÂgNigeria supports Samuel Peters.ÂÂh

Yes, the guy from Nigeria there supposedly in support of the fighter from Nigeria couldnÂÂft spell the hometown heroÂÂfs name correctly.

It was that kind of night.

In the background, Maskaev stood with arms folded across his chest, a bemused look on his face, surveying the scene but largely avoiding the circus unfolding in front of him.

Later, Maskaev said he felt the event was a waste of time. He said he felt the same way about the three-hour long news conference that was held a day earlier, when King spent much of the time railing about the business practices of Willie Savannah, the manager of IBF-WBA-WBO lightweight champion Juan Diaz.

ÂÂgHeÂÂfs a mind-worker and he knows what heÂÂfs doing,ÂÂh Maskaev said of King. ÂÂgHeÂÂfs a funny guy and he knows his job. But he never changes. I was OK, but I wasnÂÂft happy (to have to sit through the long news conference). I donÂÂft mind being there to do something important, but to go there and sit through that and do nothing. Ahhh! It was terrible.ÂÂh

And so while King and co-promoter Dino Duva raved about PeterÂÂfs potential and hailed hm as the future of boxing, Maskaev just shrugged.

HeÂÂfs studied Peter closely and canÂÂft see what the fuss is about. Peter has a reputation as one of the gameÂÂfs most powerful punchers, but Maskaev isnÂÂft certain he actually lives up to his billing. Peter is a 5-1 favorite.

ÂÂgEverybody wants to make him out to be this unbeatable fighter, but when I look at him, I see a beatable guy,ÂÂh Maskaev said. ÂÂgHe looks very beatable to me.ÂÂh

A one-time coal miner in Kazakhstan who was nearly killed in a mining accident when he was a teen-ager, Maskaev said heÂÂfs comfortable that heÂÂfll be able to perform at peak efficiency despite not having been in competition for 15 months, since the win over Okhello in what was little more than a glorified sparring session.

Trainer Victor Valle said Maskaev isnÂÂft given enough credit for either how hard heÂÂfs willing to work and for how sharp he has become.

ÂÂgHeÂÂfs a totally different fighter now than he was before,ÂÂh Valle said of Maskaev, who has won 12 in a row and hasnÂÂft been beaten since he was stopped in the eighth round in 2002 by Corey Sanders.

Hey, Kevin: Don`t make fun of someone for misspelling a black fighter`s name-we know you wouldn`t make a mistake because you wuv Sam Peter-but then you turn around and misspell a white fighter`s name. It ain`t Corey, Kevin, it`s Corrie.

Anyway, Oleg Maskaev sounds really confident heading into the fight. He has STUDIED his opposition, TRAINED hard, and is PREPARED. Let Don King and SamPeter keep runnin` their mouths.

Just maybe ol`Oleg hasat least one morebig win left in the tank.

I am very scared of this fight. I really hate Peter but I think he has a good chance to beat Oleg tonight being that Oleg is 39, has a suspect chin and hasnt been in action in 15 months. Oleg can pull this one out with good defense and keeping it as a distance. Good luck Oleg.

Moshe Atlas has predicted Peter will take Maskaev out in 1.

What a shock

I just laugh at Atlas. I think he either has a particular fascination with blacks or he is afraid to offend them with honesty. I have learned from watching Atlas that he is wrong much more than he is right. He predicted Ibragimov would beat Klitschko when the whole world knew that was not going to happen. He scores fights wrong all the time too. Two weeks ago he had Darnel Wilson beating BJ Flores on his scorecard when it was obvious that was not the case and he embarassed himself again. Last night, Casamayor threw almost 1600 punches and beat Machada (spelling?) for a flyweight title. The Casamajor won the decision, of course, and I had him easily winnig as well, but Atlas had it wrong as usual. As a boxing "expert", he just has to be better than that.
