Thrashen,
Is Edelman still playing any offense?
Tom Iron...
Well, his last catch came against Denver, where he was featured in a 5-WR set. In garbage time against the Bills on Sunday, he played receiver in place of Welker and had an “end-around†rushing attempt.
Given his new-found defensive role, coupled with his various special teams roles, he seems to be merely an “emergency WR,†playing behind Welker, Branch, OchoHomoNegro, and black scrub, Tiquan Underwood. Black special teams player, Matthew Slater, is technically a WR, but he’s also played defensive back this year, barely playing as a WR. Recently, Slater has barely played on defense (not a single snap against the Bills). A few games back, Edelman disappeared on defense as well. Dane Fletcher played every single defensive snap last week against Miami, but was subbed out repeatedly for Tracy White and Brandon Spikes against the Bills.
The Patriots are wildly unpredictable in terms of what player starts, or even plays, during any given game. Defensively, their personnel decisions are very difficult to understand.
