apparently there is a shootout happening on the NFL Network. the game between the Patriots and the Jets is tied up at 31-31 with 8 seconds left.

New England's Matt Cassel just threw a touchdown pass to randy moss after driving the length of the field thanks to a couple of clutch grabs by Wes Welker.

going into overtime, Welker has 7 catches for a game-high 108 yards.

The Patriots have about 500 yards of offense and Moss had only 10 yardsfor thegame before making a TD catch to tie it at the end of regulation. Cassel hasn't thrown any deep balls but his stats are excellent, and he has rushed for more yards in a game than any Patriots QB since Steve Grogan. Cassell has over 400 yards and 3 TD passes.

yet another reason to hate the NFL. New England loses in overtime, after never even getting to touch the ball in the overtime session.

that is simply a ridiculous way to conduct a game.

FYI....

Welker has 72 catches for 718 yards with 5 games yet to play. Even without Brady, he only needs to average 56 yards per game and 5.5 catches per game to reach 1000 yards and 100 catches (again). At the end of the game, Welker was clutch as ever. Wes did us all proud last night, a man of our race outperforming everyone on a national stage....yet again! Also, the Pats FINALLY started DL Mike Wright, giving them 3 white defensive starters.

Matt Cassell is so impressive. He may be just as cool and calm as Brady under pressure...he can also run like Steve Young. Do you guys realize that it was 4th and 1 on the Jets' 16 yard line with 8 seconds left when Cassell threw that amazing TD pass? Unreal. Compare Cassell, who never even played at USC (and was barely drafted), to JaMarcus Russell, the 1st overall pick. The NFL really has it backwards, doesnt it?

Even though they lost last night, I think Cassell assured that he will not be a Patriot next season. Hopefully a team like the Titans or Viking pick him up, as the Pats will not be able to afford to keep him.

I think the story of the decade in the NFL would be if the Pats somehow won the SB this season with Cassell.

Backrow, did I see that Derek Smith was cut by San Diego? Also, Raiders signed Greyson Gunheim, Defensive End. And I believe Zac Keasey is on IR.

finally i can prove all the people who say welker only gets his catches because teams are too busy covering moss deep to pay attention to him, moss was often left in single coverage last night because for some reason cassel had trouble hitting him most of the night on the deep pass, and welker still had a great night

The Patriots offense was very effective with no running game to speak of, and with Moss playing half-heartedly. Late in the game Cris Collinsworth said, "Randy sometimes gives a good effort," clearly meaning he wasn't in this game.

His whole career Moss has pretty much been a one-trick pony, run down the field and try to haul in the bomb. He's way too much of a wuss to be utilized in the middle of the field other than very rarely; he goes down as easily as any receiver in the league and that's saying something.

The obvious response to that kind of thing (I've had this argument many times) is to ask what other receiver benefited from playing on the same offense as Moss? The answer, of course, is none. The only other receiver to succeed on the same team as Moss was Cris Carter, who of course was an established star when Moss entered the league. Why didn't, say, Nate Burleson ever do what Welker does?

Great point Don. Moss was that way in college at Marshall. When teams focused on him, he became a small factor in the game.

Titans picked up LB Josh Stamer as a free agent some time ago. Don't think he sees the field though, FWIW.

Welker...man, he is really something.

Seriously? That's incredible! That's something that hasn't been seen in a while.

The Broncos may be my new favorite team. A real "throwback" type day with Hillis running,Stokely getting a couple receptions in the first half, and Larsen going both ways!

Wow!

on a side note, they must not like Niko Koutovides much, since he was Webster's backup all along... weird.

He played as bad a LB could play against the Browns, he can't blame anyone but himself
