Cousins should go to Minnesota. They instantly become Super Bowl favorites next year if that happens, IMO.

Whether the Vikings are willing to shell out big buck$$ for him is another matter. He would certainly be an upgrade over Keenum, with all due respect.

Keenum can still end up as a capable starter somewhere else and command decent money, he has done enough this past year to earn that.

I like Keenum but it would be great to see Cousins land in Minnesota. That would be the next step towards them getting to the Super Bowl.

First just because it was released by the agents those numbers are not complete. In NFL guarantee does not mean. It could mean 45 million is fully guaranteed while the rest is a roster bonus in that you will get that money if you are on the roster on March 5 3 years into your contract .

Second you assume that Cousins would have signed for $71 million guaranteed. I assume he won't. I think he wants more than Derek Carr money and wants a contract of 5 years 175 million contract, $100 million guaranteed.

If he actually takes less, it would go to my other theory, he never wanted to be a Redskin and wanted to get out of Dodge

Carr got 5/125 with 70 guaranteed

Just some random thoughts after the Smith to Washington trade. Washington would still be smart to draft a QB (Mayfield/Allen may both be their when they pick in the 1st).

In the AFC west Porky Pig gets his magical mulatto QB but depending on how everything shakes out he will be the worst QB in the conference:

If Cousins ends up in Denver it just goes to show what a terrible trade KC made with Smith and it can very well haunt them for the next 7 or 8 seasons. Rivers is still playing at a high level but it would also be wise for the Chargers to look into this draft for his potential successor (Mason Rudolph/Mike White). Say what you will about the Raiders but Carr is a great QB and it will be interesting to see what Gruden does with that team. Hopefully the years away from the game have allowed Gruden to reevaluate his view of players and his critical and biting analytical viewpoints in the booth follow him back to the football field.

I have also been reading more and more about the Giants drafting one of the top QBs to replace Eli down the road. This would be a mistake as they have a potential successor in Davis Webb already on the roster. For all of Eli's asinine comments about white skill position players and white athleticism in general he has not been the issue in New York. The lack of a running game and piss poor drafting on the O-Line - specifically the tackle position have caused many of the issues on the offensive side of the ball. The Giants not drafting a QB at all in 2018 would be a huge win-win since it gives Webb a great shot at developing into the QB of the future while letting other QBs from this very deep class end up on other teams.

My theory is that Belichick informed McDaniels that he's going to retire in another year or two and that he will name him his successor. Assuming Kraft is on board and McDaniels knows he'll be able to keep the same "culture" in place then it would be a no brainer for him to wait it out for a job where he's almost 100% guaranteed to have success. The formula for winning in today's NFL isn't that complicated; you build a roster with as many White players as possible and you make sure there's a good culture in place that the black players are forced to happily adhere to. It wasn't always like this but in today's NFL, many black players feel entitled to stay out partying at strip clubs the night before games . Some even get high on game day.

You are right; that strategy works in today's NFL. The Patriots have been following it for years, Minnesota and the Rams followed it this year and significantly improved their teams. And when Green Bay followed it they won the Super Bowl. You could make a case that Philadelphia winning it all this year was due to bringing in a white coach and white and black players of high moral character. It will be interesting to see what teams will have the guts to follow this strategy next season.

Aside from eventually taking the helm from Belichick, McDaniels royally screwing the Colts may also be a strong indication that Brady indeed plans to play for many more years.

Edelman returns next season and it would be great to see Amendola and Burkhead re-signed this off-season, especially if Lewis and White leave via free agency.

Assuming everything goes to plan, the whole “crew” (Hogan, Edelman, Amendola, Gronk, and Burkhead) finally be healthy together and torture the NFL in 2018.

Bruce, I think you’re spot on with your post here. BB handing over the reigns in a few years to McDaniels could ensure a coaching version of “continuity of government” which would be a best case scenario for NE and us.

Good for Jimmy G! It will be interesting to see if the 49ers follow the approach that worked so well for them at the end of last season, i.e. fielding 4+white pass catchers, and join New England, Minnesota, Los Angeles and Carolina as CF favorites. They would be stupid not to, but then again this is the NFL.

Jimmy G. passed the eye and performance test in the Eyes of Lynch the last 5 games of the 2017. Why waste time or the opportunity, lock him in with a yuge contract. They believe he is the goods. So do I. He may become the west coast Brady. The 49ers will be formidable next year.

Now the Patriots need to find the next Garropolo to sit behind Brady and learn for the next few years until he and Belichick retire and McDaniels takes over. They ought to be able to do it with the deep QB pool in this years draft.

You are forgetting about the Rooney Rule. I don't think Robert Kraft could promise McDaniels the job, but he could hint that the job would be McDaniels.

It was around 1977 when the salaries of NFL player were in the press for the first time. O.J. Simpson made $806,668 a year from 1976-79. Walter Payton's 1979 salary was $450,000. The NFL had a brief fling with free agency in 1976. John Riggins and a few other players took advantage as "unrestricted free agents." The most Riggins made with the Jets was $75,000. With the Redskins by 1979 he was making $300,000. Riggins then held out in 1980 and "retired." but came back in 1981 saying "I'm broke."

The highest paid QB in 1979 was Bob Griese at $400,000. Archie Manning next at 379,000.

Good day to be an NFL afflete when it comes to the legal system that is supposedly racist:

Seahawks QB Trevone Boykin had the charges dropped from his March 2017 arrest.

Boykin had multiple off-field issues last year, but none of them were serious. He spent all of 2017 on the practice squad and will return on a reserve/future deal. The Seahawks should add competition behind Russell Wilson this offseason.

D'Onta Foreman had all charges dismissed from his July arrest.

With all charges being dismissed, Foreman's agent said the NFL will not pursue disciplinary action. This is good news for a player who showed a lot of promise as a rookie. Coming off a torn Achilles', Foreman will try to be ready for training camp.

I think with the signing of Jimmy G. to a long term deal and the ascension of the Rams we have hopefully seen the end of the Plantation Pete era in the NFC West. As a team they are aging, their defense is not as good as it was and has been wrecked by injury, they do not have a viable RB. Hopefully that window is closed and the Seahawks under the current regime slowly fall apart.
