On Friday night, September 3, the NFL Network is starting a 10-part series naming the top 100 pro football players of all time. The premiere is at 10 pm ET. The first program will list players 100-91.

The players in the first episode were:

100 Joe Namath
99 Michael Strahan
98 Lee Roy Selmon
97 Derrick Brooks
96 Mel Hein
95 Larry Allen
94 Lenny Moore
93 Sam Huff
92 Michael Irvin
91 Fran Tarkenton

I found an item quoting Steve Sabol of NFL Films. Sabol said that 8 current players are on the list. He said the list was determined by the vote of 85 football experts. Five teams do not have a single player, including the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints. Sabol said 3 players from the 1920's made the cut.

The next show will be on Tuesday at 9 pm ET. It will feature #90-81.

Is Nameth really that good? Is he an overrated player?

So, Troy Aikman is listed at #80 and Steve Young is right BEHIND him at #81?Good grief! Who in their right mind would place Troy above Steve?I wouldn't be surprised to see Donovan McNabb and Warren Moon in the top 10.

This question has been asked about Joe Namath for some 45 years. When on his game, Namath was something. On a bad day, he was really bad. You have to have been a football fan during the 1960's to understand the impact Namath had.

Some of his most amazing performances were in losing games. For example, the 1965 Texas-Alabama Orange Bowl and a Raiders-Jets Monday night game in 1972.

You can't rate Namath for his stats in a modern perspective. The game was completely different. The short slant pass to wide out wasn't thought of. Also Namath was the first 4000 yard passer in modern history. He also probably saved the AFL and the club in NYC. The Titans/Jets were a horrible drawing club until Namath was signed by them. If you want to learn about the AFL's history and his impact Showtime had a documentary on the AFL called Full Color Football. Edited by: white is right

These things are jokes. Jonathan Ogden is a greater player than Fran Tarkenton - huh? How about some white offensive linemen. Laughable that they have more sumos at a position that was historically dominated by white men.

How could a guy that at the time of his retirement led the league in every single quarterback career stat be "less great" than Ogden? I think we could all pick apart that DWF/media propaganda list. The top ten should all be quarterbacks and they should all be white, but we know that won't happen.Edited by: Kaptain Poop

It will be interesting to see what pioneers will make this list. I suspect Grange and Thorpe will be on the list, but not nearly as high as they would be if the list was compiled about 20 years ago.

All of these "top" or "best" lists are usually Caste loaded BS, so I don't bother to watch them. I got sick of watching the ones ESPN did over 5 years ago.

I haven't watched this series all that much, but to the extent I have I've noticed something that I've commented on before, namely that the black players of the '50s, '60s and into the '70s are on average much better spoken and seemingly of bettercharacter than the black footballplayers of today.

The earlier black players were for the most part brought up pre-"Great Society," LBJ's massive expansion of the fedgov that decimated the black family and turned black urban areas into matriarchies totally dependent on the government (more specifically, handouts, including "rewards" for having illegitimate children, paid for by the taxpayers).

The laughingly called "Great Society" was an important part of the Permanent Cultural Marxist Revolution unleashed by the Washington/New York/Hollywood Axis in the mid to late 1960s. One of the most obvious present day manifestations of its many negative affects is"modern" black athletes, many if not most of whom would be in prison in pre-Cultural Marxist America if they tried pulling the same things they routinely get away with now.

But of course, in the U.S., the "solution" to obvious problems is always to inflict ever greater doses of the poisons that caused the problems in the first place. Anyone who points out that the "multiculturalism" and "multiracialism" pushed non-stop 24/7/365 is destroying the country is demonized. Thus, the endless pandering to black pathologies and dysfunction rather than permitting honest discussion on this and so many other vital issues.

I'm not familiar with all of these names but so far it looks Bruce Matthews is the only white offensive lineman included in these 30. Matthews made a total of 14 Pro Bowls and I would put him much closer to the top of this list. Of course they include sumos Larry Allen and Art Shell. It will be interesting to see how many more black offensive linemen they fit into this list and the total number of white players.

The 50 Greatest players of the NBA had 21 whites on the list. That's slightly better than 40% and I don't expect this list to have that high a percentage.

Unfortunately this list will be made up of typical "Revisionist history" sentiment. Somewhat off topic...It was interesting watching the JetsHard Knocks this season.A linebacker or lineman commented that Danny Woodhead would have been a "Hall of Famer" had he played in the 50's or 60's. As we all know he probably couldbe a very good "Pro Bowl" scat back now given the opportunity or potential "HOF".

Ogden's sumo @$$ shouldn't be in the top 200 NFL players of all-time & certainly NO WHERE near NFL & UGA legend Tarkenton. These lists are indeed full of pro-caste hogwash (as well stated by the CF brethren).

Don is right on target as usual. Bobby Bell, #69, is an example of how different black players of the 60's were from the current crop. His presenter, an author, remarked that Bell had a pleasant personality and was an asset to Kansas City. He implied that you didn't see that today.

Yes, the solution to any problem is to increase the poison.

The classic example of what Don mentioned is probably Alan Page. He is a Minnesota Supreme Court judge. He's probably an ultra liberal affirmative action member, but still, is Mikey Vick going to be in a courtroom after he retires? Wait, what?????

Seeing as the first republican to express interest in running for president in 2012 is a black guy, Herman Cain, maybe Mike Vick will be appointed by Cain to the U.S. Supreme Court!

Don, another unblemished and accurate statement.

We constantly chronicle the shocking changes (for the worse) that have been instilled in American whites as a result of The New System"¦but blacks and other American minorities have also been perverted in a similar fashion, with comparable consequences.

We have been forced to give"¦and they have been required to take.

When Senator Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash in 2002, there was talk of Alan Page taking his place on the ballot. The Minnesota Democratic party instead chose ex-VP Walter Mondale who lost. Robert Novak, the late long-time political columnist, called Alan Page a "law and order liberal."

I'm a little surprised Obama didn't appointed Page to the Supreme Court. Maybe it's because of his age (65), or the feminists had the higher priority. It may even be that Page isn't liberal enough for Obama.
