Awhile back, my wife and I stopped in for a drink at a local tavern and they had a gazillion TV's going. They had a bowl game going on one of them and as I watched, a certain LB, was in on every tackle it seemed. I didn't know who he was, but they put his name up on the screen. His name is Luke Kuechly. He played for Boston College and I predict, coach Belichick will never let him leave. That he'll draft him for the Patriots. Quite a player.

Yes, he's the top ranked linebacker for the upcoming draft. His tackle numbers are absolutely ridiculous. He'll probably be drafted in the top 15 picks but as usual the draft "experts" are starting to rain on our parade by claiming he doens't have elite athleticism. If he can stay injury free, I predict in two seasons in the NFL this kid will be the top inside linebacker.

Here's the latest (well, at least the latest that I've seen) hype-job article about everyone's new favorite QB, "RGIII". A snippet from the article on what caste-clown Brian Billick has to say:

During his Saturday media session, former Baltimore Ravens head coach and current NFL Network and FOX Sports analyst Brian Billick gushed about RGIII. "I'm very intrigued by him," Billick said. "We tend to clump players together. So any time you talk about an athletic quarterback — Oh, he's this. He's counter to that. This is the best. When you talk about the Michael Vicks or the Cam Newtons or the athletic quarterbacks, this is the best throwing athlete I've seen come out in a while. Far better than Michael Vick in my opinion. Far better than Cam Newton. I'm not going to say the T word [Tebow] here. [NFL Network draft guru] Mike Mayock will get mad at me if I say the T word. Very intrigued. This guy has as pure a throwing motion for an athletic quarterback [as you will see]. Clearly, he has the intelligence to transition. Very intrigued with his potential in the NFL. He will translate into the NFL very well."
There seems to be very little question about that. The only question is, which team will mortgage a good part of at least one draft to get that rarest and most valuable of draft commodities -- the quarterback who could turn a team around?

And, a picture of this handsome gentleman for our viewing audience;-)

He's supposedly intelligent, according to all the scouts. I'll believe it when I see it. Anyway with his room brightening smile, incredible affleticism and upside, and supposed inteligence the media has their perfect draft pic. More than likely he is the next Michael Biship, Akili Smith, Troy Smith or any of the other countless black hype jobs at quarterback from past years.

Yesterday Steve Mariuchi was calling Griffin the smartest quarterback ever to interview at the Combine. I can't wait to find out what his Wonderlic score is. Since Cam Newton actually made the hype look good last year, they've upped it even more for this year's annointed black QB, although it won't be surprising at all if Newton falls back to earth this season.

Tonight on the Doug Gottlieb radio show (ESPN). Doug was huffin and puffin mad that the Vikings will pass up RG3. Despite having the worst starting left tackle in the league (Charlie Johnson) and one of the highest rated left tackles coming out in years (Kalil), Doug thinks the vikings need to pick RG3.

They already have their RG3 (Joe Webb) who is a better affletic project IMHO and a franchise QB in Ponder. They need to protect him.

The Wonderlic scores aren't supposed to be officially released to the public. Whenever they have gotten out, it's either through the player or a leak.
I'd be very wary of any score reported for Griffin. I was a wrestling fan (the silly kind) when I was growing up, and I always found it frustrating how new stars would be "created" by a fairly rapid progression of hype and scripted behavior. Whenever ratings began to sag, Vince McMahon would just take one of his long time villains and quickly reshape his image into that of a hero, and vice versa. That's obviously what the XFL was intended to be if it had succeeded.
I suspect the NFL, which, after all, exists solely to make money, has taken note of McMahon's long term stability and success and has adopted some of his practices. There was nothing in Cam Newton's previous history to suggest he would be a competent quarterback in the NFL. But, although his team wasn't all that successful, they have created a media image for him as one of the league's brightest superstars. Part of that is just endless hype, but another component is the changing rules that are making it easier for black quarterbacks to perform in NFL games. They're under a lot less pressure to find an open receiver quickly, since they are practically untouchable. Add in the relaxed officiating on holding calls and you have a situation where any idiot could take a snap and get a pass off without taking contact.
Unlike other members here, I believe Griffin will be very successful in the NFL. Because the league feels like they need him to be successful. A game doesn't have to be "fixed" for one player to find success. The rules and traditions of the game can be changed to fit the abilities and characteristics of specific types of players. Since Griffin is so similar to Newton, I believe he will perform at least as well in his first season. Along with that, the NFL will make sure he gets the same star treatment that made the underwhelming Newton a household name. But they likely want to take it further with Griffin. They can make him the "best of everything" by creating the appearance that he's not only the most athletically gifted quarterback to ever play the position, but he's also the smartest.
So, that's my long-winded explanation for why I would distrust any Wonderlic score released for Griffin. I fully expect his score to be reported over 40. After all, he's also a chalkboard genius, despite playing in an idiot-proof offense where the coaching box makes all the play calls before the snap.

Very apt assessment of the recent-year rule changes. Of course, as we all know, white QB's can also excel with these rules, which makes the Tim Tebows and Jake Lockers so threatening to the league. Tebow was successful even muzzled in a one-look zone-read option that was designed to make him look bad. Locker was chained to the bench, and whenever he saw the field, he was amazing. He was immediately returned to the bench and we were told "....move along, nothing to see here....look at the amazing sCam Newton!!!"

And the party line out of Tennessee is still that Matt Hasselbeck is the starter but that there will be competition for the position this summer. Makes no sense given that Locker flashed his superstar ability right from the get-go in both the preseason and regular season when he played. I still often read about how "raw" he remains. The media clowns and DWFs are such an easily trained and maintained herd.

Do a google search for "Akili Smith & Wonderlic" and you'll find some fascinating stuff. Word back then is he scored somewhere between a 6 and a 12 on his Wonderlic the first time he took it. Those are horrible scores....However, when he took the test a second time he reportedly got between a 26 and 38.

At the time his agent even admitted he helped Akili prepare for the test. I didn't know you could prepare for the Wonderlic in such a short period of time, especially if you're dumb and scored so embarassingly low the first time? More obvious theory the DWF's bandied about, was his agent Leigh Steinberg (who used to be the most powerful agent in the world) got him a copy of the test in advance....and he still did not come close to a perfect score?

The Dolphins front office should be investigated for racism.

Citing a team source, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the Dolphins' motivation to surrender a draft-pick package for Baylor's Robert Griffin III "isn't very high." The Dolphins have "some level of interest" in trading up for Griffin, but it's cost prohibitive. Miami would have to fork over more picks than the Browns or Redskins because their first-rounder holds less value. The Dolphins will instead aim for Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn as the top two options at quarterback.

.....between 6 and 12, someone last year, I think it was Julio Jones scored 9 or 10.

You are considered mentally challenged if you score below 10! It was called retarded in my day!

I took the test and scored 33, could have scored better, but I had to scroll down on my computer. It took extra time to do this and I ran out of time. I've been out of school for almost 30 years!

There should be no preparation for a 4th or 5th grade level test!

I'm sick and tired of these retards getting football scholarships to supposed highly regarded D-1 colleges!!!!!

My mistake. A.J. Green scored a 10. Julio scored a banner 15!

Very close to being considered mentally challenged or retarded.

LSU CB Patrick Peterson scored a 9, so he's considered mentally retarded.

These people are actually going to higher institutions? This is insane!

I'm sure they'll fudge up RG3's Wonderlic score. The only afrolete that I buy making a score over (or close to) 40 is Ben Watson. For every Watson, there's 100+ Darren Davis....Iowa State who scored an astounding 4 on the test. :der:

I was wondering if anybody in this forum knows if the Wonderlic test is mandatory for all combine invites? Can't a player refuse to take it?

The football blogosphere considers it a done deal that Cleveland will trade up to pick Griffin. Supposedly, there are leaks from the Browns organization that suggest this.

Let's assume for a moment that I'm an afrophile DWF. I'd still have a tough time understanding the logic behind this move.

Here is my current Quarterback:
Played in Big 12 spread offense
45 career wins (2nd most all time)
13,253 yards, 112TDs, 45INT
70.3% career completion percentage through four full seasons

And we'd be dumping him to pick up this quarterback:
Played in a Big 12 spread offense
23 career wins
10,366 yards, 78TD, 17INT
67.1% career completion percentage through 3.25 seasons

Even if I thought Colt McCoy was not a good NFL quarterback, why would I want to trade away 3 draft picks to obtain a quarterback who has shown that he is, at best, 95% as good as McCoy?

So it's shaping up to be a typical first round. Luck and maybe Tannehill at QB, Kalil and Reiff at tackle, DeCastro at guard, and Kuechly at ILB. Any Whites taken besides them look like longshots at this point -- I've seen Konz, Fleener and Smith listed in the first round in various mock drafts, but not many. Konz is the most likely of those three to be selected.

Supposedly if a monkey could fill out the test he would statistically score higher than that as you should score about 12.5 if you randomly chose the answers, maybe he was on the "drank" when he took the test and nodded off in the middle of it.....

There is a Bleacherreport article naming the ten worst Wonderlic scores ever. I don't know how accurate it is, as two whites, Jeff George and Sebastian Janikowski, appear on the list. I'm willing to bet dozens of affletes could have been put in those two spots but the writer didn't want to appear racist. The rest are affletes. Anyway, here is a link.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-10-worst-wonderlic-scores-in-combine-history

Ryan Fitzpatrick and Mike Mamula are among the highest scorers of all time.

ha, i didn't realize Mamula was as intelligent as he was athletic!

i have no doubt Janikowski would have had a low score, as i have had a doubtful pleasure of meeting him, and he's a meat-head... not sure about Jeff George, he was a QB after all.

I honestly think a lot of the blacks simply do not try to take the test. The Packers took an 8 scoring Nick Collins after interviewing him personally and he has turned out to be a fairly smart player who was missed this year because of injury. I would not be suprised to see the test go by the wayside, especially if a snivel rights racketeer starts to kick up a fuss.
