I don't know why anyone even bothers to watch modern movies. I just watch movies made before 1965. There are plenty of good movies to watch from that era.

Just saw this in IMAX today. Highly recommend. Does a great job piecing together old never before seen footage. Really gave you a feeling of what true patriotism, pride, camaraderie and social cohesion felt like.

Anyone (aside from me) seen the Midway film? It's better than the 1976 version and the 2001 Pearl Harbor, way better. There is nothing but heroic white men in a historically accurate film.

It's an independent production, no Hollywood studio would back it. The German director, Roland Emmerich, required Chinese money to make the film. The Chinese like the mention of Japanese atrocities in the segment on the Doolitle Raid.

The critics don't like it, but the viewing public does.

If Emmerich made a good movie that is not pushing the progressive agenda, then I’m genuinely surprised. Emmerich is an open homosexual who financially backs LGBTQP(pedophile) and other “progressive” causes. He reportedly has murals and portraits of communist figures in his homes, so that explains his connection to Chinese funding of the film. I may watch the film eventually to see if there are subversive narratives but I won’t pay 1 cent to see it.

The 2019 version doesn't have the ridiculous sub-plot or anything like it.

I saw Midway with my 13 year old son, who wanted to see it. It was fantastic. I agree, better than the 1976 version, which I also thought was very good. And the American pilots and sailors even called the Japanese "Japs" a few times! How's that for historical accuracy?

Was contemplating going Christmas day but not sure. This was a classic case of the authorities deducing Jewell was the instigator due to the fact he was fat, looked like he had never had a date in his life and lived with his mother. Must be the guy.

I still want to see Midway. I saw the movie about Mr Rogers. It was ok. A little creepy at first but it was ok. Of course it had the race mixing which you see everywhere today. Completely unnecessary. If I would have known that I would have not see it but I was on a date.

I also want to see the movie "1917". Hope it's good.

another good recent one is Dark Waters detailing the DuPont chemical dumping in WV and case(s) against them. Kind of has vibes from The Insider, The Firm, and the Rainmaker

Ford v Ferrari another nice drama if you’re into racing

is it just me or do almost all the “good” non globo homo movies seem to come out around November and December?

I've spoken about that starkly brutally realistic movie about the all too real Bolshevik death camps in the USSR many times, and another Russian movie also made in 1992, shortly after the fall of communism, "Russia What We Have Lost", which was the first time that it was publicly revealed that Lenin spoke Yiddish at home. Solzhenitsyn wrote that the rulers of the seven largest gulag death camps in the Soviet Union were all Jewish.

Wonder why those death camp survivors aren't also sitting on their fat tukhases in Brighton Beach and West Hollywood, CA collecting "reparations"? Because they're dead that's why! That's what happens in real death camps, like those shown in The Chekist.

Yes, we saw the movie yesterday. We're supposed to be the good guys. One scene in the movie says it all. The scene where the lawyer's secretary says [in her country, if the government says the person is guilty, you know he's innocent]. Well, that's how it is here now as well.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was outstanding. I was not familiar with the story. It was nice to see that a quality movie like that can still be made. I kept waiting for the awkwardly shoe-horned-in diversity, and it never appeared.

Yes I have seen Ford vs. Ferrari as well and enjoyed it very much.

I am thinking of seeing 1917 as well. Just to see its how it presents the horror that was WWI. I want to see how it compares to the two versions of "All Quiet on the Western Front".

There have been quite a few others with sympathetic Germans: The Eagle Has Landed, Decision Before Dawn, A Time to Love and a Time to Die, The Last Valley (Thirty Years War), Waterloo (Prussians save Wellington), Stalingrad (1993) and a better Stalingrad film around 1958 Dogs do You Want to Live Forever?, The Bridge, Straf Battallion. Those I could think of off hand, all or nearly all on DVD or youtube.

Saturday night TCM is showing Ten Seconds to Hell (1959), directed by Robert Aldrich, who made films of hard men in conflict. This time they are Germans played by American actors, Jack Palance and Jeff Chandler. The story is about German POWs coming back to postwar Berlin and taking jobs in bomb disposal. They had done the same work in the German army.

Ten Seconds to Hell is on TCM at 10:15 ET Saturday night, September 22. It is also available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

TCM is showing The Bridge (Die Bruecke 1959) early Monday morning January 13 at 4 am ET. This is the first time TCM has shown it.

I just watched it, it's a great movie. It's very rare to see something like this nowadays.

I agree. I saw it tonight and it was outstanding. A tearjerker for sure. Hope it wins some awards.

I usually like Clint Eastwood movies but don't waste your time watching "Trouble with the Curve." A very predictable movie with a horrible cast.
