MLB 2021 Season

MLB history is littered with flash in the pan players.

I've been hearing about LA Angels Jo Adell for four years. Supposed to take over for Trout in Centerfield someday. So far he hasn't panned out. He hit .161 last year with a -1.3 WAR. Oh well he's only 21. At 21 Trout had led the league in Runs twice, SB's, WAR twice was hitting .323 was the ROY, two time AS and MVP runner up twice.
Maybe he'll come around this year. The Angels are going to need it.

Freeman has been one of the best players in baseball while Heyward has served as an average player never living up to the hype bestowed upon him for being coronated the next black savior in baseball.

So, Heyward provided $11 million of value while being paid $23 million. Bottom line: Heyward has been a bust for the Cubs.

WAR is pretty simple to understand. Wins Above Average. It’s the number of wins a player would contribute to his team over what a theoretical replacement would contribute.

The stat is non standard in that different people use different ways to compute it. On the plus side it does factor in ball park effects, position strength, and defense / base running. I think it’s a good measuring stick.

As a hitter when you are in a lineup with lots of great hitters your WAR (and production) will go up as the good hitters wear down the opposing pitchers and the fielders have to position themselves closer to the bases with runners on. That's why they say "hitting is contagious".

Some 6'6 white monster named DJ Peters went 2-2 with a monster HR today in spring training for the LA Dodgers. They're thinking he may be making his MLB debut this year. I certainly hope so. I'm looking forward to watching this young man!

As a lifetime follower of the Pirates, I know Brian Reynolds and Kevin Newman both hit .300 in their rookie years in 2019....They may be 26 now, but second full year.....
Kids to root for. Reynolds will start in left.....Newman is fighting for a starting position....

I went through some articles/lists (went through the top 400 listing on MLB.com)/fantasy rankings etc. to try and get a fairly comprehensive list of players to keep an eye on in 2021. If they are listed at more than one position I tried my best to either notate the position or marked them as utility if they are listed to play several positions. Also at SS Bobby Witt Jr., just 20 years old looks MLB ready, but the Royals are loaded in the infield and or have spent too much money on existing players. It looks like another year in the minors unless someone is injured.
I wish I could get to the pitchers. Just got to much going on right now. If their not done soon, maybe I can work on them later.

Also at SS Bobby Witt Jr., just 20 years old looks MLB ready, but the Royals are loaded in the infield and or have spent too much money on existing players. It looks like another year in the minors unless someone is injured.

I understand that we all are busy. It took me a couple of weeks just to sit down and hammer this list out. Hopefully someone can help out with the pitching preview. A little help is always appreciated. It always seems it is very few of us making content/doing research (however rudimentary it may be) to provide info on white athletes. That has become one of my frustrations about castefootball. Not enough involvement. This rant is in no way directed at you @Carolina Speed - I am just ranting in general. Thanks @Carolina Speed - I was unaware of Bobby Witt Jr. Looks like he has an uphill battle since the Royals have an entrenched latin shortstop - Mondesi who's father was a big league player. I hope Witt passes Mondesi up this year and gets the starting job!

Witt clobbered a 484-foot HR today, but it seems no matter what he does, he won't supplant Mondesi. Mondesi is only 25. I don't know what these teams are thinking sometimes. I hope Witt doesn't rot in the minor leagues. He hit that HR today off a seasoned MLB veteran. They are projecting him to be up in the majors next year. OK. But where? There doesn't seem to be a spot opening anytime soon in the infield and the OF is solid as well. I guess time will tell.

Since he is a shortstop he could in theory play all of the outfield positions plus 3rd baseball seamlessly. He also could fill in at DH too, sometimes when a team has a hot young prospect the veteran is traded away for more pieces. But Mondesi is only 25 and could have a good decade of solid major league play ahead of him.

I don't know what Mondesi's contractual situation is but if he is up for free agency soon he could be traded for prospects if he and the historically frugal Royals management can't agree on yearly pay and length of contract.

With the way contract lengths have evolved this could be huge weight on the Royals as aside from their two recent World Series runs they have been a bargain basement thrift store type club that trades and sells of talent before they free agent eligible.
