Kovalev coming back? On Saturday.

Kovalev is fighting the younger Pulev, Tervel in a cruiserweight fight. He weighed in at 196 pounds and change and looks filled out he said he was dying to make 175 in the last few years he fought at the weight and could explain how he fell apart against Alvarez and maybe even the second Ward fight(low blows were part of the story too).

Kubrat is on the under card and he is fighting Jerry Forrest and that on paper seems to be the better fight. This card also has more sons of former champions as Fernando Vargas Jr and Evan Holyfield are on the card against I presume cannon fodder opponents.

Brian Castano has his return bout against Jermell Charlo and the winner will be the undisputed 154 pound champion. In their first bout we had a typical PBC draw when the house fighter(Charlo) probably lost the fight with non biased judging. Hopefully Castano has real neutral judging and if he shades Charlo again is given the decision.

Gilberto Ramirez fights in a WBA eliminator against Dominic Boesel. I never considered Ramirez White but since he shaved off his mutton chop beard and probably trained out of the Mexican sun he looks White to me and is definitely White by Latino standards. Ramirez is the clear house fighter but Boesel has mixed it up at the world level before and is a former WBA regular champion so he is capable of pulling off the upset. https://fightnews.com/ramirez-boesel-make-weight/132033

PS, the first result of the day and Martin Bakole battered the hyped Tony Yoka and boxed his way to a clear victory but once again corrupt judging made the fight closer than at appeared.

Yoka was supposed to fight Hrgovic in an eliminator judging off this performance if he didn't land first Yoka would be easily pacified by Hrgovic as Yoka was repeatedly told by his corner he needed rounds and he was content to survive.

It was a tough day at the office for many of the White fighters that had bouts this weekend. Brian Castano was in a similar situation to his first bout against Charlo where the fight was even at the mid point of the fight but he was rocked in the 7th round and never got on track after that and was later dropped by a sneaky punch through the aggressive Castano's guard and then he was stopped with follow up barrage that dropped him again and the referee stopped the count as it was obvious Castano was done for the day.

Ramirez battered and stopped the docile Boesel in the 4th round. Ramirez who appeared very White at the weigh in supposedly gained 30 pounds post weigh in and was his tanned self when he entered the ring. Really Boesel was fighting a small heavyweight and this fight was a mismatch weight wise. Boxing commissions need to look into weight cuts like this as it's not fair to a fighter who gains little weight after a weigh in versus a fighter who is fighting at weight 2 full divisions higher.

On the Triller card Kovalev out boxed the younger Pulev and treated him like a sparring partner. Until he steps up and fights a contender it's hard to tell what he has in this new division. Kubrat Pullev gave a similar boxing lesson to Forrest and won a wide points win.

PS seeing all the various sons of former champions and contenders fighting the line of "I box so you don't box" from Rocky to his son could never be truer after having to watch Holyfield's son get battered and stopped by a cannon fodder opponent. It seems like the fighters who blew their nest eggs all have sons willing to risk their health for a potential career similar to their pops.

Yes his purse could be frozen. What he has to do with the Russian war machine is beyond me. This isn't happening to Ovie or other NHL players so why are tennis players and boxers getting singled out?

PS, Is Kovalev getting paid? Maybe he is a naturalized American but his purse which would be a small fraction of the Bivol purse should be frozen too if he is still a Russian citizen.

I've always supported Canelo personally, shame to see him lose when he's been on such top prime form. Props to Bivol though, fully deserved, Canelo needs to get back down to Super middle he looked virtually unbeatable there.

Setting the stage for the weekend fights and in most of the contests Whites are the long shot b sides. Hot contender Zhanibek Alimkhanuly a Eurasian from Kazakhstan fights obscure British contender Danny Dignum, the Kazakh puncher is a big favorite over the Brit in a clash for the WBO interim championship. The winner will probably be upgraded to the full champion as Andrade is in line for the WBO super middleweight championhsip title shot against Alvarez.

David Lemieux is fighting this weekend against Mulatto David Benevidez for the WBC super middleweight interim championsip like Dignum he is a big betting under dog against the younger and longer Benevidez. Lemieux is a puncher but he maybe a king without a country in this division as he looked fat at the weigh in and he can't make 160 anymore without putting his health in jeopardy. This fight could get ugly if he can't get the younger man's respect.

Earlier in the day Allen the Savage Babic fights an obscure Pole for a paper belt in the newly created Bridgerweight division. Babic should win in style but with his aggressive style he could walk into a bomb that he doesn't see, but every fight he has had so far has been all out action.

Note I would have followed up these fights on Sunday but the website was buggy.

Here goes nothing... Alen Babic survived a first round knockdown to pound out a unanimous decision over his obscure Polish opponent. A more skilled opponent will try to use Babic's aggression against him and time his pure aggression. Babic reminds me of 90's fringe contender Jeremy Williams who was of a similar height and weight and looked spectacular against lower level guys but was timed and stopped by better guys when he fought the elite of the division. One thing benefiting Babic is if he stays at bridgerweight he will fighting men closer to his size while Williams spotted huge weight advantages in size to his opponents.

As I speculated Dignum was target practice to Alimkhanuly and was dispatched in 2 rounds. The Kazakhstan national has the look of a future star and I would rate him a favorite over everybody in the division less GGG and even here he would be a live dog as I would only favor Golovkin because of his deep resume. This could be the high water mark for Dignum as he had no answers for the hand speed or power the ferocious Eurasian.

Also as I speculated Lemieux was waxed by the longer Benevidez as he couldn't earn his respect and was battered from pillar to post until the Lemieux corner signaled to the referee that Lemieux should be pulled from the fight for is own safety. Lemieux was viewed as potential opponent for Canelo a while back but off of this performance a similar pasting would have probably occurred. I hope Lemieux thinks long and hard about retirement as he probably has no place to go in this division beyond becoming a name opponent.

Wallin won a wide near shutout of Booker. Booker is one of these guys who has slipped down to a professional opponent. He is durable and is skilled enough to slide and roll with punches so that he can't get stopped that easily but doesn't score with his own punches because of his defensiveness and poor conditioning(for an elite athlete). He can get work with this role as various former contenders like Kevin Johnson, Christian Hammer and others fight a similar style and are brought in to fight prospects and contenders on the comeback trail.

Wallin is stuck between a rock and hard place as the big 3 heavyweights will probably fight a round robin tournament to settle who is the undisputed champion and he maybe viewed as too tough an opponent for a Wilder comeback opponent. Luis Ortiz would look to be a perfect opponent to fight another comeback fight as he is slipping and ready to lose to a top 10 guy. It might as well be Wallin before somebody else gets that notch in their belt.

PS, this weekend Bill the Butcher look alike(Gangs of New York reference) Gary O'Sullivan is probably getting a last chance saloon type shot for a world belt against Lara for the WBA regular belt. O'Sullivan even admitted that if he got this title shot a decade ago he would have lost in a white wash but Lara now doesn't have the legs to run and hide and O'Sullivan has a puncher's chance in a phone booth fight. Similar to last week and the White fighters he is a long shot to win this fight.

PS2, O'Sullivan was stopped in the 8th round as it seemed like he might be turning the fight around after being out boxed for the first 5 rounds. He outworked Lara in the 6th and 7th round until about 10 seconds to go in the 7th when he was rocked by a counter punch and was wobbly going back to his corner and had nothing left coming out for the 8th and was stopped by the first serious punch in the 8th round while on his feet but looking very glassy eyed.

Note he was felled in the 4th but seemed to take that punch better than the later big blows.

He might be the Black fighter for Black fans as when the camera panned the crowd the crowd was overwhelmingly Black and even in the ringside seats I scarcely saw White fans.

Similar to last week and the White fighters he is a long shot to win

guys like O'Sullivan and Dignum aren't representive of white fighters. They are just handpicked cherry picked opponents picked to lose, and for the home fighter to look good.I dont even bother supporting these guys or even watching these fights in these match ups cause I know they are such a long shot to win. O'Sullivan has never been world level, and 99% of even hardcore boxing fans wont know who Danny Dignum is.. hes barely even domestic british level.

Our top guys are dominating boxing >> Usyk, Alvarez, Fury, Lomachenko, Taylor, Beterbiev, Kambosos, Golovkin, Breidis etc Thats the guys to support.

Just like when our guys are facing some D level afrobum opponent its not much to celebrate. I much enjoy the wins over the better black fighters like Joshua, Wilder, Rigo, Russell Jr etc

Davis' mother is very dark and I think he was in foster care as a youth. I wouldn't be shocked if she was a strawberry(drug addict who sells her body for drug money) and had Davis with a White man or a "High Yella man".

I only mentioned these 50 to 1 type opponents because they were in the main event or chief supporting bout of top broadcasts for the weekend. O'Sullivan had failed every time he stepped up to the elite of the 160 pound division but he was a viable fighter at the British level. Dignum might not even be that level of fighter...

First boxing match I've watched since Fury's last one. Only caught last 2 matches, and didn't miss much. Spike is limited and Romero got dropped. His form was pathetic. Really sloppy "boxer".

They are using the same formula for Davis as they used for Wilder. Scout the opponents well and give an appearance that the opponent could be competitive. Davis is clearly more skilled than Wilder but he hasn't fought anybody that had a remote chance of beating him if he was on his A game or probably even his B game.

As for Romero after two rounds he looked like a robotic heavyweight clone and was wide open for a counter punch that toppled him like a building that was being demolished by a demolition team.

I found he looked really drawn leading up to the fight, if he doesn't make 135 pounds the fight will go on but he will relinquish his belts on the scale and Haney will win the belts if he is victorious but Kambosos will have to vacate the belts if he is victorious.

Note Lucas Browne and the Maloney brothers are on the card too. The Maloney's are on the comeback trail to the world level but Browne is probably just treading water against Junior Fa who failed when he had a crossroad fight against Joseph Parker in his last major fight.

PS Kambosos made weight on his second attempt he stated he didn't urinate and doing that helped him be a half pound under the maximum weight. We shall see what the true story is because many times when a guy can't make weight easy the fighter has no legs in the fight.

According to the bookies the fight is a near pick'em with Haney being the slight favorite with US bookies but I suspect Aussie bookies have the reverse.

And the newwwwww!! IBF junior lightweight champion is Joe Cordina. Cordina destroyed a road warrior in Kenichi Ogawa with a haymaker that you usually see in a street fight on Youtube. Ogawa couldn't beat the count from the long right hand.

Rounding up the big card in Australia as pretty much stated in the Browne thread Lucas Browne spoiled any comeback plans of former prospect and now suspect Junior Fa. Browne bowled over the Polynesian with the first punch he landed on a probable ill focused Fa. Fa entered the ring like a liberating soldier getting confetti thrown at him and never got on track and was given the benefit of the doubt as he rose from the first knockdown like he had just downed a pint of Jack Daniels. The fight was called off after a second knockdown without a count as Fa was felled with a similar straight right hand bomb.

Browne could campaign for a comeback fight shot against Wilder as that win is probably more explosive than any other potential cannon fodder first opponent could have.

Jason Maloney blew out his bantamweight opponent in a similar manner to Browne. Maloney took out the Filipino national in the 3rd round with two spectacular knockdowns and should be back in the mix for an eliminator or even a title shot.

According to reports his brother won easily over his foe as he beat him pillar to post and the opponent didn't come out for the 3rd round. He too should be back in a similar eliminator or title shot position as his brother.

As for Kambosos he fought the wrong fight. I blame his trainer for not lighting a fire on Kambosos at some point earlier than the 10th round as aside from a power punch here or there he did nothing but try to out box the boxer. That strategy was never going to work. Kambosos will need to fight a dirtier in fighting fight to win the rematch.

A lot of criticism of Kambosos's corner, I was worried when Kambosos came in over the weight. Nice KO from Cordina and from Browne against an opponent that did well and went the distance with Joseph Parker.

These appeals never going anywhere unless the referee was obviously incompetent or there is a money trail for a bribe and then the fight will be ruled a no contest. I have heard neither rumor floating around.

PS the Monster is the biggest punching bantamweight of the 24 hour weigh in era. IMO you would have go back to Reuben Olivares for another bantamweight with this type of larger weight type power.
