I was waiting for Trout to come out of a mini slump and he has in a big way 2-2 with 2 HR's in his first two at bats and 5 RBI's. It's not like he's on a good team. He rarely gets to see good pitches.
There are constantly rumors about him being traded. I wish the Angels would. I would like to see him on a team a good hitters. Maybe we could see what he really could do.

Yes, it's so frustrating to see Trout being wasted on the Angels! He is 8- for his last 10 AB's and has only managed to score three runs, two of which were by his on bat by hitting HR's.

It would be wise for Trout to wait and see what Bryce Harper and Manny Machado do in the off season as Harper is expected to sign the largest MLB contract ever! By WAR standards Trout is worth more than both Harper and Machado combined! Trout already a wealthy man, in the fourth year of a 6 year, 144 million dollar contract will more than likely command half a billion, but Trout I believe is more concerned with being on winning team. Let's hope he makes the right decision.

Mike Trout passed 4 Hall of Famers in career WAR this week!! They are Richie Ashburn, Bob Feller, Billy Williams and Vic Willis. Trout is now at 9.9 WAR for the season and an even 64.0 for his career. He is the all time leader through age 26 season. He sits 6th among active players and 146th all time and just turned 27. Amazing!

I used to think Bryce Harper a long time ago but it's really not even close. Mike Trout is hands down the best player in baseball over the last 5 or 6 years. In a fair world he would win the mvp every year. He is simply that great. If he continues at his current pace I think someday he just may be considered the best major league baseball player ever. Trout in a pleasure to watch play and I still like the comparison to a modern day Mickey Mantle!

Not sure what's going here, but Trout replaced after going o-1. I was looking forward to Trout having a good and final day of the season. This has happened several times since Trout returned after missing 3 weeks of the season. He also missed the last 2 Sunday's in a row before today. He was said to have been given the day off. So, I don't know, but he certainly didn't need the rest given he missed 3 weeks! Anyway, no more Mike Trout until next April. I'm really hoping he'll sign with another team.
I was hoping he would've reached some big milestones, but injury and bereavement has cost him the last 2 seasons. I'll cite a few:
Career Runs: 793. Although he did score 101 runs this season, he would have easily had over 800 career runs if not for injuries, probably close to 900, already!
Career Hits: 1,187. Again, should have easily went to 1,200 and more like 1,250-1,300!
Career HR's: 240. Nothing to sneeze at through age 26, but it would've been nice to see him over 250!
Career RBI's: 648. Not entirely his fault. Has hit first or second for much of his career, but the inability of his teammates to get on base has hurt this stat. Same with runs scored. The inability of his teammates to drive him in considering his career OBP is a whopping .416, .46o this year!
Career SB: 189. Should be way over 200, but expect this to stop since he's been injured once or twice while stealing bases.
Career Stat Line: .307, .416, .574, .990.
Career WAR: 64.3. The GOAT through age 26 season. Incredible! HOF career already at age 27.
I can't imagine what he'd do on a decent team?

I've been trying to find charts showing whether Trout is still on pace to break a lot of the all time records like HR, R, BB, etc. but haven't been able to find any lately. I know he's still ahead of BB's HR pace.

Yes, he's ahead of Bond's pace, but he'll either have to pick it up soon and hit 45-50 HR's for awhile or play for 22-24 years! Bonds had 6 years of 45+ HR's plus the year he hit 73.
Trout is also ahead of Rickey Henderson's runs scored pace. Has a comfortable lead for now. 793-732 through age 26 season. However. Henderson played for 25 years and eventually broke Ty Cobb's runs scored record. He was terrible towards the end. I believe they let him play those last two years just so he could break Cobb's record. I hope Trout will one day repay the favor!

With Roger Federer at twilight now and Jordy just past his prime I think when it is all said and done Mike Trout is currently my favorite athlete. Just a great player and a great guy to boot. I root for him like crazy. I was pleased he hit the 100 runs scored mark, batted over .300 plus 39 HRs looks great on his resume. Just needs to stop sliding head first. Two years in a row he season has been interrupted because of that.

One stat fact. For the second year in a row Whit Merrifield led the AL in steals with 45 and caste football favorite Trea Turner led the NL with 43.

You have to go way back to find a time when two white players led their leagues in stolen bases in the same year. Since integration and the arrival of Jackie Robinson it hasn't happened except for a couple of years after Robinson had just arrived. It has been a long time folks.

Actually, Trout was making a regular feet first slide this year while dragging his hand in the dirt and got injured again, however not as serious and then missed another week due to the death of his brother in law.
Agreed, Trout is no doubt my favorite athlete in any sport. He's the most dynamic athlete of any kind or color right now IMO! I'm not sure there's ever been another athlete that checks ALL the boxes and I mean ALL the boxes. This man does it all! He's bigger and faster than both Mantle and Mays and does everything as good if not better than both of them. Also, the same with Bonds. Bonds never did anything as well as, except steal bases, (maybe not percentage wise), as well as Trout until he got on the steroids!
The fact that he has the highest WAR (64.3), of all time through age 26 season indicates he's the best all around MLB player ever to this point in his career!

Now some here may be disappointed he isn't moving to another team.

But for old fashioned me I am ecstatic he is staying long term with the Angels.

It warms the heart to see a white player build up a gigantic local fan base and stick with them. ( I was sickened to see the Packers discard Jordy Nelson like a rag doll). This contract, if it goes through, and all indications suggest it will, will settle Trout down with the Angels until he is basically 40 so we are likely looking at a lifetime contract.

This will only endear him even more to his local ( and expanding national) fan base.

Trout is an old fashioned type of player. He goes about his business like a true pro and especially good with children. Just a well rounded and grounded individual who has the proper priorities in place. He isn't looking to create controversy like so many other young athletes.

Imagine the scene on opening day in Anaheim when Mike Trout steps to the plate for his first at bat of the season. There might not be a dry eye in the house. Their hero coming though and not forsaking them. Great story!

I am happy for Trout also, however if this news is true, the Angels got a real bargain. Adjusted for inflation, I don't think this deal makes the top ten of all time. I believe the contract is an extension of his current contract, which will take him to age 38 season. 430 million over 12 years, will be 35.83 million per season. Under his current contract he's making 34 million per year over his last 3 years. Not really much of a raise compared to what other players have received. Pitcher, Zach Greinke will make 35 million over his last 3 years. Although 430 million seems like alot of money, it's NOT worthy of Trout in terms of the kind of player he is verses his peers!
Trout is the greatest player we've seen since Mantle/Mays and in terms ow WAR, he's the GOAT. By FanGraphs calculator, he's been worth 489 million over his seven seasons. An average of almost 70 million per year. Some projections have him worth more than 600 million in present day dollars!
Again, although I'm happy for him, he could've received a lot more money! Money not being the most important thing, but I'm sure other players of his talent would've sought and received a bigger contract. BTW, he will be paying out his rear in taxes living in California!!
Lastly, I was hoping he would have come back to the east coast. I would like to see him play more.

When you crunch the numbers like that sure it probably does end up being a shrewd cost saving move by the Angels over the long haul.

Keep in mind in the world of sports at large I think the biggest NBA contract is about half of that and there are far less NBA players. Forget discussing the NFL and the NHL. They aren't even in the same ballpark as some of these baseball contracts.

Given Mike Trout's personality it doesn't surprise me he is staying with the Halos. This is not a man who lives an extravagant lifestyle by any means. Compare him to Derek Jeter who was out on the town banging different top model type broads as a routine.

Probably down the road Trout's contract will feel like he is getting cheated relative to other players but the more important part for me is all the good graces he will receive in return which in my mind trumps the money card ten times over.

Mark this date down. The Angels opening day is April 4th at 10:00 EST. I just hope an earthquake doesn't occur due to the roar of the crowd that evening.



Some feel the Angels aren't a worthy enough club for him as they mention teams like the Yankees or the Cubs etc.. But there are plenty of other teams that don't have a great connection with their team. Off the top of my head both Florida teams come to mind. I could see Trout maybe trying to exit in those situations but the Angels are a baseball friendly team with a solid fan base even though they semi share a market with the more historic Dodgers who by the way might be fielding an all white starting line up come opening day. The Angels have one of the strongest home attendance figures in MLB. And a lot of that is due to Trout of course. Besides Mike Trout on a big city bright light stage doesn't fit his "life story" which is more like the country bumpkin who made it big kind of thing. It all just feels right to me although I agree I miss a lot with him being on the west coast.

Ultimately this is a feel good story as the "homegrown hero" ( in baseball terms) decides to stay home instead of abandoning everyone.

His popularity will only get bigger. And the growing myth surrounding him will seem like a fairy tale to future generations.

Trout has the potential to be the GOAT. Playing his entire career with one team will enhance his legacy. Also, he can focus on massive production without worrying about impending free agency.

Below is an outdoor press conference celebrating the signing of Trout. Maybe this has happened before with big signings but I can't recall such a thing. It had a near victory parade touch to the whole thing and a reminder that white sports heroes are very much in demand even if so many media outlets ( especially ESPN) try to paint another picture.

Opening season for the Angels starts Thursday! And again their opening home game is April 4th at 10:00 PM EST and I believe the MLB network will be televising it.
