AL MVP race is heating up!!! Looks like Altuve is out for two reasons. The Astros did not make the playoffs and he finished off the season with a whimper. Ortiz is a DH that is one strike and he slumped horribly the last week of the season too. So it looks like it is a two man race between Trout and Betts. About two weeks ago I thought Trout would place 2nd or 3rd behind Betts and or Altuve. If I had a vote I would choose Trout and I believe I am being objective despite being a Troutaholic. Betts power numbers dropped in the month of September and even though I do not have the actual stat numbers I could swear he stopped hitting home runs . Also he feasted on Baltimore pitching hitting three home runs in a game. I think he did that twice this season. In general Baltimore launched Bett's MVP run. Besides that the real turning point is Trout had to make do with much less. Which means fewer at bats--more than 100--and hitting in a very weak lineup unlike Betts who played in the most loaded lineup in baseball. Trout mans centerfield which along with shortstop is the premium defensive position in baseball and he fields the position with panache. Trout also had a much better slugging pctg. than Betts. Sure Betts is a terrific young all around talent( I can't stand him) but he had a lot of built in advantages not to mention a much easier ball park to hit in. How many 4 bag dingers would Trout hit if he played in Fenway? At the end of the day (season) Trout truly deserves the award. He was running against the wind all year in perhaps the worst lineup in baseball while Betts had the wind at his back.

On another subject there have been whispers about the Angels trading Trout for a bunch of prospects. I do not think it will happen and it should NOT happen. He is enormously popular and I bet if you polled Angels fans most all of them would shudder at the thought of trading him. He is young enough that the team can build a winner with him. Might take some time with these Angels and there is no guarantee you can win the whole thing by trading Trout for a bunch of unproven top prospects anyway. There is one other reason the front office won't trade him. The Angels finished 7th in home attendance and 8th overall despite having a horrible team.. The rest of the top attendance teams were contenders. The only question left to ask is Trout the most popular American athlete? My answer is YES!!!!!

Mike Trout has already reached 50, (50.4), WAR and it's still early. He joins Cobb and Mantle as the only players to reach 50 WAR in their age 25 season. With an average season he should pass both Mantle, 52.1 and Cobb, 55.8 by years end.

Trout currently leads the AL in SLG% .704, OPS 1.123, OPS+ 218, and Total Bases 57. He's batting .346, has an on base % of .419, hit 6HR's and stole 4 bases without being caught. Trout is doing it all on a bad team without protection. Really enjoying watching he and Bryce Harper play along with so much other talent. This is an exciting time to be watching MLB.

Last Sunday Mike Trout became the youngest MLB player in history reach 150 steals and 150 HR's! He currently has 151 steals and 180 HR's.

It's still early in the season, but just when you thought Mike Trout couldn't get better we have this:

Seasons 2012-2016: AVG. .310, OBP. .410, SLG. .564, SO%. 22.0 BB%. 13.7, ISO. .255. ISO is; isolated power, or SLG minus BA.

2017 Season: AVG. .350, OBP. 466, SLG. .757, SO%. 19.3, BB%. 16.5, ISO. .407

Strikeouts down, Walks up and more aggressive on first pitches, swinging at them over 25% of the time compared to just 10% in 2014. Swing rate at 41 % compared to the past at 38% and laying off high pitches. Although he missed 5 games in May, he's already hit more HR's this year, (14) than in April and May combined with 10 games left in May!
And BTW, Trout's WAR is higher than Bryce Harper and Manny Machado's combined!

Mike Trout 200th HR of his young career! Just hit his 32nd HR on the season in the first inning!

Despite missing about a third of the season, Mike Trout continues to make history. He belted career HR's number 200 and 201. There are too many accomplishments for me to name, but here's a few. Trout becomes the youngest player ever to get 200 HR's and at least 150 steals, just beating Rodriquez by a month. Trout is only one of 5 players to have 200 HR's and 1,000 hits by his age 25 season! The others are HOF's Jimmie Foxx, Mel Ott, and Mickey Mantle...and Alex Rodriquez(not a HOF). Only four players have 200+HR's and 200+doubles through age 25 season: Trout, Ott, Rodriquez, and Albert Pujols!
Mike Trout has accomplished so much at an early age and since Jimmy Chitwood started this thread in what seemed like yesterday. Thank you Jimmy for calling our attention to this amazing athlete! Looking forward to the rest of this man's career!

Sorry guys. I haven't been able to post much lately. Just working a lot and spending time with family, but just had to post about the greatest player of this generation. Trout's past weeks stats over the last 6 games reads: 12-22, 8 walks, .545 BA, .667 on-base percentage, three doubles, two triples and 2 homeruns. A hitting line for the season of: .336/.458/.720.

Thought I would post some milestone numbers for Mike Trout:
Only 26 years old!
Trout got his 1,100 career hit yesterday.
Has 214 Doubles
219 Home Runs
Got his 600th RBI a couple of days ago: now has 605. Despite batting first or second for most of his career so far.
621 Walks
.306 Career BA.
177 Stole Bases, with and SB success rate 0f 85%
2,055 Total Bases
and finally, 739 Runs Scored. Pretty interesting considering all time runs scored leader Ricky Henderson had 732 runs at the end of his age 26 season. Significant, since Trout, 26 still has roughly 2/3 of his season left. Should get his 800th career run in roughly 7 and half seasons!
One last thing, Trout, 59.1, is getting ready to pass Ichiro Suzuki, 59.4 on the all time career WAR list. Incredible! Suzuki, over 3,000 career hits and 500 stolen bases, a HOF lock. I believe Trout passed 8 HOF's on the WAR list in the month of May!
All of this, at the ripe old age of 26!

Mike Trout passes five HOF's in two days in career WAR! Ichiro Suzuki, Vladimir Guerrero, Yogi Berra, Mike Piazza, and Jim Bunning! After his 3-4 performance last night, Trout is at 59.7 career WAR and of course leads the majors by a bunch at this season at 5.5.
Trout is also leading the league in Runs 52, Home Runs 19, BB 51, OBP. .450, OPS+ 208, and TB 146!

Trout also has 13 stolen bases so far this year, and he hasn't been caught yet this season. No other player has more than 10 stolen bases without getting caught.

Trout went 0-0 today - four walks and a sac fly RBI.

Meanwhile, yesterday he went 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs, hitting a two-run homer in the seventh. Two polar-opposite ways to be super-productive in consecutive days.

Leads the league still by far with a .456 OBP and is on track for close to 150 walks on the season, a mark that hasn’t been hit since 2004. He’s up to 61.2 career WAR, passing players such as Gary Sheffield’s 22-year career and Keith Hernandez’s 17-year career. Mark McGwire and Shoeless Joe Jackson not far ahead of him.

After missing 7 games with a wrist injury, Mike Trout now on the 10-day disabled list! This will probably take him out of the MVP discussion. This is now the second year in a row Trout has visited the disabled list. Hopefully, this doesn't become the norm.
Also, it will more than likely stop his WAR reign as the record holder through age 26 as Ty Cobb holds that distinction, as well as keep him from numerous other records he could set.

After missing 3 weeks, wrist injury and the death of his brother-in law, Trout hits a triple on the first pitch off of Astros Ace Dallas Kuechel! Typical of the LA Angels, Trout gets on base on 3 of 4 at bats and they can't get him across the plate! LA loses 9-3. Trout, 2-3 and a walk.
Trout leads the league in OBP .462, OPS 1.091, OPS+ 198, IBB 20, and BB 100.
Although Trout's stats are HOF already, it's hard to imagine what they would be if he were on another team that gave him more support?

Trout went 2-3 last night with a Home Run. He should surpass 100 runs scored this season despite missing several weeks.

About that. For the second straight year Trout has missed a decent chunk of time sliding into a base head first. He even wears one of those stupid looking oversized mittens for protection.

Call me old fashioned but I do not like to see players slide head first. Many even do it on close plays to first base. Not only has it never been verified that it is faster to slide head first it increases the chances of injury either to the wrist or the hand. Mike Trout is a perfect example.

Slide feet first please.

Nice to have him back though. When your favorite player is MIA it makes it tough.
