Trout closed the gap on Cabrera a little last night going 2-5 and 3 RBI and his 24th HR.

Trout .331
Cabrera 1-3 .349

12 games left, it's possible, but not probable as jaxvid mentioned, if Cabrera sits.

If Cabrera sits now Trout would have to hit .500 over his next 12 games to catch him.

I would like to have seen Trout get 200 hits, 100 RBI, to go along with his 104 runs and 100 BB.

He's close with 183 hits and 89 RBI!

He could do it, if he gets really hot, with 1.5 hits/ game and .84 RBI/game.

Wow! Trout 3 HR's in last 3 games! Now has 26 HR's/ 92 RBI's/ 185 hits/ 108 runs. .330 AVG. with 10 games to go.

30 HR/100 RBI/200 HITS/115 Runs/.330 AVG. would be really nice in just his second full season at age 21!

I will do a Mike Trout/Ken Griffey Jr. stat comparison, the first 3 years, following the end of season. KG JR. considered one of the best 5 tool players of all time. We'll compare him and Trout at about the same time in their careers.

I think everyone will like what they will see in regards to Mike Trout!

Slightly OT: a small signal radio station (WSNJ 1240, licensed to Bridgeton, NJ with transmitter halfway between Bridgeton and Vineland) carried Angels games last season. Mike Trout is from Millville, where WSNJ's studio is. Millville, Vineland, and Bridgeton (county seat) are in Cumberland County, a county that borders Delaware Bay. The three towns (cities, officially) are inland, as that part of the bayshore is marshy.

I wanted to compare Trout to what is considered one of the best 5 tool players of all-time Ken Griffey Jr.
I used Griffey Jr. because he and Trout started their careers on a similar path age wise. Here's a comparison stat wise after their first 3 years. Griffey had played in 100 more games and has over 300 more at bats than Trout, so I rounded up game wise assuming Trout maintained his pace.

BA: Trout: .314 Griffey: .298
H: Trout: 517 Griffey: 478
R: Trout: 334 Griffey: 228
D: Trout: 93 Griffey: 93
T: Trout: 22 Griffey: 8
HR: Trout: 80 Griffey: 60
RBI: Trout:254 Griffey: 241
TB: Trout: 891 Griffey: 767
SB: Trout: 111 Griffey: 50
SO: Trout: 395 Griffey: 246

Barring serious injury or a severe drop off, Trout will someday be considered, maybe the best 5 tool player off all-time!

And of course Trout is ahead of Griffey in all %'s including, OBP, SLG, etc., however one stat really stood out to me was SO's. Griffey had only SO 246 times in his first 436 games , while assuming Trout keeps pace he will SO almost 400 times, (395). What could Trout do if he could cut his SO's 33%?

What was happening with Griffey in those 150 more AB's than Trout where he didn't strike out?

What does the strike out stat say about Trout and Griffey? I would like your opinions!

Another note: Trout is SB's at 88% rate, while Griffey was at 66%!

Nice comparison between Trout and Griffey (every jock-sniffing sports-writer from the 90s wet dream). Trout is one of my fav players in the league and its hard to believe he is only 22 or 23.

Yes, now if Bryce Harper can keep from getting injured again, and have a break out season at the very young aged 21, we'll have the two best young talents as well as the best pitching in MLB!

Angels just signed Trout to a 6-year, $144 million contract. Great news for Trout, the team, and white fans.

Trout starting the season well! Hitting .429/ 2 HR's/ 5 RBI's./ 1.071 SLG%

Josh Hamilton also hitting well early. .462/ HR/ 3 RBI

Pujols, not so well. Hitting .176.

Too bad Los Angeles is 1-3 to start the season. It's early, but hopefully they will get better. We need to see Trout and Hamilton in the playoffs!

Trout and Hamilton should be batting 2nd-3rd or 3rd-4th. I haven't seen them next to each other in the lineup yet.

Trout went 3/6 last night with his 5th HR, 3 RBI's, 7 TB's and finally got his first SB of the season.

Mike Trout has been struggling lately, but got his first walk-off HR last night. Maybe this will get him back to hitting more consistently.

Trout is hitting .269 with 8 HR's and 27 RBI's, also leads the league with 4 triples!

I would like to see him steal more bases. He only has 5 and hasn't been caught yet. For his career Trout has stolen 91 bases and only been caught 12 times or 88%.

Trout also leads the league in strike outs with 50 already, on pace to SO 189 times! He has to find a way to cut down on this to become the player we know he can be!

They're saying the pitchers might have figured him out. They're all pounding him high and hardo with inside fastballs, and he's not getting around on them.

At least he already got his money unlike Crush Davis.

I don't think it's a case of "the pitchers have figured him out and he's going to come crashing down to earth." Even Mike Trout's going to have slumps. That's all it is.

He might be breaking out of it. Home runs in two consecutive games and OPS back above .900.

He set the bar so freakin' high with his first two years that any results that aren't superstar seem like a disappointment. I think any player that put up numbers like he did his first two years will always be a great player. Pitchers don't take two years to "figure" a player out.

He's actually ahead of last years pace in triples, HR's, and RBI's, however, he's striking out way too much this year, (60), he's leading the league and he's not stealing bases, (5)! If he could somehow manage to cut back on striking out, he will be the greatest player of all time! We'll see.

He's 1 for 2 tonight with a HR!

Hamilton's finally back and now Trout's hurt. Luckily it doesn't seem serious. Clean MRI.

Mike Trout is now at or ahead of his last years pace in most major categories after 2 HR's in last 2 games!

Current pace: 108 runs, 1 less than last year.

D- 41, 2 more than last season.
T- 12, 3 more than last season.
HR's- 33/34, 6 to 7 more than last seaon
RBI's- 120, 23 more than last season.
BA.- up to .305, 18 points lower, but rising.
H-, down around 10, but again with BA. rising should get close to 200 hits.
SLG%- up .28 points from last year.
TB-, 17 more than last year at current pace.

He has also swiped 93 of 105 base stealing attempts or 89% for his career, although he has is only 7 for 7 this season.

Hopefully he continues to heat up and increase his numbers.

Mike Trout is now leading the league in SLG%, OPS, OPS+, and TB's! Also....

WAR, 2nd, 4.2
Triples, T-2, 5
RBI 's T-3, 54
Runs, 5th, 47
HR's, 7th, 16
BA., 8th, .311
Hits, 13th, 79

9 for 9 in SB's

Trout has struck out 70 times. If cut in half to 35, Trout' stats would look something like this....

BA. 1st, .358
RBI's 1st, 61
TB's 1st, 176
Hits, 2nd, 91
Runs, 3rd, 53
HR's, 4th, 18

Legitimate triple crown contender if he cuts down on strike outs!

A lot of people say the Derby messes with a batter's swing and gets him out of focus for when the team starts playing regular games again. I understand Trout's concerns. I'd like to see him lead the Angels to a championship first.

I think the risk of injury would be high in a contest like this. I know when I'm trying to hit one long, either on the diamond or on the golf course, I over swing which can lead to muscle pulls. However I don't know if anyone has had that happen during the Derby. But it's still a public relations stunt during an exhibition game. So I don't blame anyone for skipping it. Heck I don't mind them skipping the game.
