Yes Mcnair wasn't the rat bastard so many other NFL affaletes are, and yes he was a pretty good Qb in his prime, and yeah ESPN and the sports media should be complimentary of him in his untimely passing. But I don't see why a few negative comments on this site are out of place. It's not our place to celebrate the guy and we were pretty hard on him during his career. I don't think it's a big deal to mention his shortcomings or transgressions, nobody here is whooping it up because he's dead and for sure no one else is going to bring up his personal failings which had something to do with his unfortunate passing.
I seriously doubt anyone with a personal attachment to McNair is trolling this site and feels depressed because of some less them complimentary remarks on his death.

<div>I agree that negative comments aren't out of place. But I think the analogy by Thrashen -- who usually throws little but bulleyes in his analyses -- to Von Brunn was not a good one. There's a gigantic difference between murdering and being murdered whether ideology or some "cause" comes into play or not. McNair was a "character" player, the lack of which is what we so often decry among affletes and the media and caste system that enables them, and was basically a Mississippi country boy not a thug (and I admit to being unaware of domestic abuse charges concerning McNair and I follow the endemic legal troubles of black athletes pretty closely). Very few white athletes haven't gone through some bumps in the road in their lives; the upside down "culture" we live in all but ensures it. </div>
