Thank god for DraftDaddy,

Charlie Bernstein: N.F.L. Workout Wonders Who Worked Out

DD.Comment: It's little premature to catergorize Matt Jones as a historic draft bust, considering he was on pace for 80 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards last season prior to his 3 game suspension and is only 26. Obviously, he's paying a huge price for drinking a few beers while on parole, as he's seemingly being blackballed by teams right now.

Three of Bernstein's "busts" are white, of which he writes: "Guys like Matt Jones, Mike Mamula, Akili Smith, and Tony Mandarich typify what most NFL general managers are most scared of, players whose college careers were good, but not fantastic." This know-nothing, knee-jerkwhite basher is wrong again, as Jones did indeed have a fantastic college career; he was a better and more productive running QB than Michael Vick. And how original -- every single draft there are numerous blacks draftedin the first roundpurely on "potential" who are big time busts, butBernstein, like virtually every otherwhite and jewish writer, must harken back to 1989 and 1995 and mention Mandarich and Mamula. And then, big surprise, all 10 of his "workout wonders who worked out" are current black players. Edited by: Don Wassall

Geez, I wonder if this spinless stooge has herd of Lawrence Phillips, Courtney Brown, and Curtis Enis? Also, Joseph Addai hasn't exactly "worked out" for the Colts. He did good his first two seasons, but where was he when the Colts needed him most last year? His 3.5 ypc didn't exactly help them last year.

I haven't been keeping up with sports news at all, outside of MMA, so I keep hoping to login one day and find a post here detailing how Matt Jones was finally chosen by some team to be at least a third string possession receiver.

And I continue to be disappointed. *dammit*

All this while a real criminal like Vick will likely be back in the league soon. I am sure he won't have a problem finding a team to sign him.

I just heard that Vick is likely to only be suspended 4 games. If he ends up playing this year and Jones does not, I seriously will not watch the NFL this year!!

I do however think Jones will eventually sign but the Vick lovefest is disgusting.

same here. every time i log in and see that their is a new post on Matt Jones I get my hopes up thinking "somebody finally signed him" . Im starting to think that it is not going to happen which is ridiculous. There are a bunch of teams that could use Jones.

Maybe the Ravens will sign him? With both Mason and Bennett retiring, there's some hope...maybe...

If the injury depleted Ravens don't sign him, who will!

Semi-DWF wants Jax to re-sign Jones:

Matt Jones Still a Free Agent: What's Wrong with a Second Chance?

Matt Jones may have never been worth a first round pick, he may have been a bust in many peoples mind, he may have been arrested for cocaine and alcohol, but Matt Jones was really the only solid piece of the Jaguars' offense last year.

Matt was without a doubt, the top wide receiver on the team last year, and he really made leaps and bounds over prior seasons. He became a good wide receiver, not great, but not necessarily a flat out bad wide receiver as we had seen in other years.

After Matt was released, I was a little sad and disheartened, considering he was pretty solid over the last year, but when the Jags signed Torry Holt, I thought that he would not be missed much by the Jags.

As training camp comes around, Matt Jones still remains unsigned, and although I am very optimistic about the WR spot, I cant help but wonder if the Jags will actually show a major improvement in the WR spot. Last year the Jag's wide receivers were supposed to change, and we all thought it was the year. Look how that turned out.

Even though I don't see it happening, I don't understand why Jacksonville doesn't give Matt Jones another chance. I know he has had a lot of second chances, but still he performed last year, and even though I am very excited about this year's rookie class of WRs, I am a bit concerned what will happen if Mike Walker doesn't perform as expected.

Matt was a good target for Garrard last year. Pairing him with Torry Holt would be a good combo, or even just keeping him as a backup would be ideal as well. I don't think Matt was a real disruption to the locker room, and he seemed very thankful for the chances he received in Jacksonville in an interview with the Florida Times-Union.

So whats wrong with giving Matt another chance?

what does he mean "he has had alot of second chances"? I'm pretty sure he HASN'T had a second chance, considering he got released the first time he did something wrong. And if he was talking about his first 2 (or 3?)disappointing seasons as a WR, that might be just because he was actually a QB in college, not a WR, and that he was still learning.

Matt has been a really good WR when actually given playing time. He didn't have much of a chance to be disappointing because he rarely saw the field his first two years with the team. You can't be considered a bust if your team screws you over and won't play you.

Yeah, just like Eric Crouch would have been a bust if they allowed him to play his college position.

The "white"balling of Jones continues:

Don't look for Matt Jones: The agent for receiver Matt Jones said he's been in contact with the Cowboys, Tennessee Titans, Chicago Bears and New York Jets about his client.

The key phrase here is in contact. It was Jones' agent who made contact with the Cowboys, not the other way around.

"We're very happy with what we have right now," executive vice president Stephen Jones said.

Compare the never forgive never forget attitude of the media and DWFs towards Matt Jones for doing a line of coke to this pathetic brown-nosing of a long-time thug (and who, if the Caste System holds true to form, will rapidly move ahead of Brian Leonard on the Bengals depth chart):

10 guys worth rooting for in NFL training camps

Bernard Scott, Cincinnati Bengals, running back: If you're looking for a guy working to make the most of a second chance at life, allow me to introduce Bengals rookie running back Bernard Scott.

Scott's past is as checkered as they come. The 5-10 back was kicked off his high school team in Vernon, Texas because of an off-campus fight after his junior season. After graduating from Wichita Falls High School in 2003, he secured an offer to play at Scottie Pippen's alma mater, Central Arkansas, where in the spring after winning Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year honors â€" he was kicked off the team ... for reportedly punching his coach in the face.

The list goes on. There have been traffic-related issues, and while attending Blinn College in 2006, Scott was charged with stealing an iPod, a misdemeanor offense. Charges were eventually dropped with his participation in a pretrial diversion program, but the cloud only darkened.

In all, Scott's been arrested five times. He's been kicked off multiple teams for off-the-field behavior and was given the dreaded "character issues" red flag on most NFL teams' draft boards in April.

But that was the past. Scott's turning it all around. Or, better yet, he already has turned it around.

During the pre-draft interviews, he stepped up to the plate and addressed his past with any NFL executive who asked. He said he'd made mistakes; he said he regretted many of the things he had done. In regards to the punching of his coach, though, Scott contends it never happened. On Draft Day he explained, "That's a rumor, but it's not true. I got into it with one of my teammates at practice. A big fight broke out. Somebody grabbed me from behind and I reacted by pushing that person away. I didn't hit anyone and I didn't strike anyone at all."

Drama-free for close to three years now, the 2008 Harlon Hill Trophy winner has made a great impression in Bengals camp this offseason. Humble, determined and committed â€" he is in the running to out-do Kenny Watson, Brian Leonard and DeDe Dorsey for the No. 2 tailback job behind Cedric Benson. At the very least, he'll make the squad as a third-down specialist.

Scott explained in April, "My expectation is to prove it to myself and to the Bengals that they made the right choice. The mistakes that I have made are in my past. I am ready to get up there to Cincinnati. Work hard and compete for a position."

He's doing all that and more.

When Scott was drafted by the Bengals in April, the pundits and talking heads rolled their eyes. "Here we go again." The blogs made their usual round of "Bungles" jokes.

What Cincinnati may have gotten in Scott was a changed man.

They also got themselves a damn good running back.

Very true Don.

FYI, I posted about Scott a while back in a write up called "Idiot Bungles Draft Bernard Scott". One bad game and/or one mischievous mistake and your white a$$ ain't playing in this league. Five horrible games in a row and five arrests/ acts of violence/ stealing etc. and you can bet you'll still see the field for a team like the Bungles if you are black as long as you have those magical hips. Bernard Scott is very lucky to be a black man.

I had a conversation with my friend yesterday about Matt Jones. I have mentioned my conversations with him before here but it's been awhile since I have talked with him about the racial dynamics of the NFL. The conversation usually leaves us both annoyed as he refuses to believe that any white athlete has ever gotten a raw deal in sports, ever.

But I had to bring up Jones to see what he was thinking. I told him that I thought it was unfair that Jones was not picked up. I told him that he was in a league filled with criminals who have been given second chances yet there he sat, blackballed from the league. Well, my friend launched into a filibuster about how horrible Matt Jones's crimes were. How he sold drugs to kids, sold drugs near schools and how his crimes were so so horrible he didn't deserve a second chance.

I let the conversation end after that. It was obvious that my friend was appalled at the evil Matt Jones. Also, I didn't even know if Jones did the things my friend accused him of.

Anyone have any info on Jones selling drugs to kids? I thought he was caught using, not selling.

Matt Jones was not caught selling drugs. He was caught in a car and there was cocaine in the vehicle. Then when he was on drug court he had a few beers during a game of golf.

GWTJ, I have never heard anything like that. Honestly it sounds asinine and almost laughable. Why would an athlete who makes millions of dollars risk his career for some chump change selling coke to kids????

If I my make an analogy, your friends sounds like the Artie Lang of drunk white fans. He's so drunk his liver may have Cirrhosis.
