Well, a Titans meltdown this year would be great for the Texans, as they are the only team standing between Houston and a playoff spot.

Mariani is "hated" by the Titans' DWFs.

Marc Mariani and His Value to the Titans

A few days ago, I made a post outlining the teams receivers and their best fit in this offense. In that thread, a new topic arose. Marc Mariani and the hate he's been receiving as of late. Why is a pro bowl returner and owner of various records getting so much flack from so many fans including myself?

full article: http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/2012/5/30/3050019/marc-mariani-and-his-value-to-the-titans

A few weeks ago, the "Titan's Caravan" went through Middle Tennessee. The Titan player who participated was Marc Mariani. At a stop, kids, both boys and girls, were lined up for several hundred yards to get Marc Mariani's autograph. A photograph on the front page of the local paper showed several boys posing with Mariani, who looks like an older version of his fans.

While it is true that the type of DWF who posts on internet forums doesn't care for Marc Mariani, he does have his admirers.

the writer and posters seem to forget the possibility of Mariani contributing as a startingg receiver and automatically assume that Kendall Wright will do something in the NFL. Mariani can play receiver, maybe his route running wasn't the best (what the writer suggests) but he played at an FCS school and has had a few years of NFL experience, I am sure he has it down by now and would be more prepared to play than Wright. Not to mention bigger/stronger/faster/quicker. Kendall Wright isn't exactly going to be a great route runner right off the bat coming out of the spread offense Baylor was running.

I have no doubt that Mariani can be a very good inside or outside receiver in the NFL, but he may never get an opportunity, at least in Tennessee. They have a fairly talented corps of receivers compared to a lot of teams, so Mariani's fate will be a test to see if Mike Munchak is going to be one of the relatively fairer coaches or not.

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak endorses Marc Mariani's skills for WR role

by Matt Davis

The third-year wide receiver, Marc Mariani, hopes to win a role to his natural position in the crowded Tennessee Titans this season.

Marc, who has played his entire college league career as a wide receiver, is left down to perform as a return specialist by Titans for the last couple of years.

He, however, has a greater optimism this year that he is placed at his position. This can be possible given that Titans’ head coach, Mike Munchak, has recently spoken high of the player’s abilities as a wide receiver.

Mariani earned a number of opportunities to receive catches from Titans’ quarterbacks during the offseason practices and his presence and form on the position have made an impression on the coach. The official has hinted at considering the player for the role.

Munchak said:

“He just makes plays. In practice here, he’s one of the guys that when the ball went up, it seemed like he came down with it, or he found a way to get open. His routes were sharp, or he was getting out of his routes well. He was fun to watch.”

Although Munchak's appreciation of the player’s talent as a WR is no guarantee, the coach's words can be taken as endorsement of Mariani’s qualification for the role.

Mariani admitted that the pressure of losing his job earlier in the season helped him pick up the pace of his game and improve performance.

Titans have recruited wide receiver, Kendall Wright, in the first round of this year’s draft, and given that the rookie has been projected to be quicker, and Mariani himself struggling to win a role as a receiver, a number of media reports hinted at his possible exit from Tennessee.

Luckily, Mariani has survived the scare and is aiming to win a spot at his WR position.

He said:

“Kendall is a heck of a football player. But I can’t control that. What I can control is taking advantage of my opportunities, trying to go out there and make plays. It’s fun listening to the reports and the opinions that are out there. It’s fuel for me. It motivates me.”

Nevertheless, the player has to wait for the start of this regular season to know if he is placed at the WR position.

Mariani continues to get good training camp publicity. Kenny Britt's knee injury and continued off the field arrests are helping Mariani's cause, although he'll probably start off the season as the team's fifth or sixth receiver if he isn't still restricted to kick return duties only. Which is a shame because Mariani can be an excellent slot receiver, and has the size and speed to start outside. I was hoping he'd be used last season at receiver and wasn't, so it still looks like a continued racial apprenticeship ahead until/if he ever gets a chance. Of course injuries and arrests may quicken the process.

snippet from article:

Titans coach Mike Munchak liked the way quarterbacks Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker competed against the Falcons on Monday, and he also liked what he saw from running back Chris Johnson.

In addition, Munchak singled out wide receiver Marc Mariani, who had only five catches for 24 yards last season.

“Mariani made some big plays. He got open and got off the ball well,” Munchak said after the practice at Coahulla Creek High School in Dalton, Ga. “You see guys starting to step up a little bit.”

It wasn’t the first time the coach complimented the third-year pro for his improvement as a wideout. Munchak praised Mariani’s work at the conclusion of organized team activities and minicamp in late June.

Mariani had a good day against the Falcons, with a handful of catches in team drills and a pair of nice grabs in seven-on-seven.

Darius Reynaud had his 4th or 5th punt/kick return for a TD this season. This does not look good for Mariani next year, unless he can start developing as a slot receiver.

Despite his great stats in college and above average workout times prior to the draft, he was only drafted (according to most sources) because he played at Montana, with Jeff Fisher's son. Fisher's had a history of signing ex-Grizzlies.

So, perhaps, he can play for the Rams next season? He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, so I can't imagine he'd be out of a job for too long. But, yes, he might be better off leaving Tennessee.

Mike Munchak says that Mariani has been "amazing" in workouts so far. Hopefully he still has a future in the NFL.

This is pretty much a make or break season for Munchak. He's been a disappointment Caste-wise, but they did sign Kevin Walter to be a backup. Would be nice if Mariani would see the field as a receiver this year.

It's a big season for Jake Locker too. He was hurt most of 2012 as the team's o-line was pretty bad, but none of that matters when it comes to a White QB. He has to have a good year or he'll get the "bust" label that will likely consign him to backup status beginning in 2014.

In other team news, Karl Klug has been switched from DT to DE. His playing time was cut way back last year even after he was so productive as a rookie in 2011 in limited playing time, so moving to end may be the only way he can keep his roster spot.

Even with an "amazing" spring, The Nashville Tennessean doesn't like Mariani's chances of unseating the illustrious Darius Reynaud.

The Nashville Tennessean believes it will be a "challenge" for Marc Mariani to unseat Darius Reynaud as the Titans' return specialist.

Mariani suffered a compound leg fracture last preseason, and it left some wondering if the 2010 Pro Bowler's career was over. He's now nearing 100 percent, while coming off an "amazing" spring. Reynaud returned two punts and one kickoff to the house last season, and he was re-signed to a one-year deal.

Of course, no mention is made of Marc having any chance at wide receiver. Even being a recent Pro Bowler gives you no slack in this Marxist football league.

Mariani's recovery has been nothing less than amazing. It's funny how his recovery from a much more serious injury than Adrian Peterson and Robert Gremlin had gets none of the media coverage all the while the two affletes are getting hailed as superhuman in their recoveries from their acl injuries.

Geeze some writers are so damn stupid. Mariani is a return man as well as a very ****ing capable receiver. I believe his senior he avg. 16 yards a catch at receiver for Montana. If I'm not mistaken Marc is slightly bigger than Reynaud. Both players are explosive and should be on the field for the Titans. None of this one or the other bull****. The Titans passing attack was horrid last year and if it doesnt improve drastically Jake Locker will be the next young white QB to be crucified by the media. Who was the Titans last good receiver? Drew Bennett, Derek Mason? What a joke

Coming back from a broken leg and with a new coaching regime in place, Mariani faces a tough fight to make the team even though he would be an excellent slot or outside receiver.

After impressing in camp last season at the wide receiver position, Marc Mariani is picking up where he left off. Following two freak injuries, Mariani has been facing an uphill battle to remain on the roster, but he has been doing himself plenty of favors thus far. The Montana wideout has been smooth in and out of his routes, flashing reliable hands and savvy to make the tough over-the-shoulder catches on the boundary. He's gotten in work with both Jake Locker and Zach Mettenberger, who seem to have no problem getting him the ball. If he can continue to impress the coaches, he might be the one to snag the final WR spot, WR4 or WR5, with teammate Michael Preston likely taking the other.

Marc Mariani was a Pro Bowler as a returner as a rookie. There's no question he has the talent to excel in the NFL.

The questions about Mariani are his ability to avoid injury and getting a fair shot. As is usually the case in the NFL whites get fewer chances than blacks.
