Damian Williams and Lavelle Hawkins.. LOL Don't think Mariani will have much problem doing that. Mariani is a gamer and I'm looking forward to seeing him andJake Locker work together!!

Mariani can be a dominant receiver. Jeff Fisher took him mainly as a sop to his son and wouldn't use him other than as a WSTD despite the team's collection ofunderachievers and prima donnas at receiver, but it looks like Mike Munchak is less of a Caste disciple than Fisher, so Mariani at least has a chance now to get an opportunity at WR.

That would be a great combination, Locker to Mariani. He looks more impressive than Cecil Shorts who played against d3 competition or Pierre Garcon who also played against D3.

The Big Sky seems to produce the most NFL players from the FCS.

I held onto Mariani in the Lambert League just for this reason!

I'm glad to see he might have a chance to play the slot but it still doesn't make any sense. He is probably one of the top 5 fastest players in the nfl. Why would you not line him up outside. I know why and it's because of his skin color. This kid can be the next Kevin Curtis. Let him play!

His speed is 4.48 WL, so he's not one of the fastest 5 guys in the NFL. Still, he blows me away with his short area quickness and dazzling cuts. He is still faster than the median WR in the NFL. He should be put at Split-End or Flanker on the outside!

Good article on Mariani, who has assumed the nickname of our esteemed moderator here
smiley2.gif
, but of course the author only compares Mariani to Welker and Shipley (and assumes that a player named "White Lightning" can only play in the slot).

Marc Mariani: What Does The Future Hold For White Lightning?

Translation: I'm bored, let me remind you how awesome my favorite player is.

Fact: everybody loves Marc Mariani. While he was the lightly-regarded seventh round draft choice of a draft classrenowned for it's initial success, he may have had the most successful season out of any of our fantastic rookies in 2011. No disrespect to Alterraun Verner who established himself early as a competent starter, and certainly nothing against Derrick Morgan who had an impressive start derailed by injury, but Mariani came out swinging hard and ended up making quite a name for himself.

After an eyebrow-raising performance in the return game in year one, Mariani has worked hard in the offseason to earn a spot on the starting offense. An obvious parallel of a guy who worked his way up from relative obscurity by means of special teams performance and possesses a similar skill set would be Wes Welker. Their workout measurables are similar, though Mariani seems to be bigger, faster, and stronger, but only marginally so. CitingConsensus Draft Servicesfor this one:
<BLOCKQUOTE>

"Decent punt returner and possession guy who gets open and uses his hands. Really competes and stretches for the ball. Decent quickness. Good routes and footwork. Knows how to get open. Quick feet and dekes the DB well...FCS's answer to UT's Jordan Shipley. Probably a 4.6 guy, but has some upside and intangibles. Breaks more tackles after the catch than he should for a guy of his dimensions."</BLOCKQUOTE>

Remind you of anyone? This is Wes Welker coming out of college to the T. Now, I'm not going to hype him up endlessly claiming that Mariani has the tools to be the next Welker, he'd need Tom Brady to do that, but he is without a doubt cut from the same mold. Yes, unfortunately, this one falls into the oldadagethat "all white receivers = Wes Welker", but can you honestly tell me you don't see the similarities? I see it in Jordan Shipley, I see it in Mariani as well.

Chris Palmer would would do well to create a solid relationship between this guy and Jake Locker. His presence in the slot could be invaluable in developing short, timing routes that were virtually non-existentin the game plan last year because the team simply didn't have the personnel to execute it. A popular idea that I've seen flying around a lot is to put Nate Washington in the slot, but I don't think that it helps us maximize his skill set enough. He's a two-true outcome player; his big play ability is something that needs to be celebrated by splitting him out wide. It's not that he can't make plays from the slot, Lord knows there aren't many linebackers you can line up on the guy, but he has rare speed that would serve him well on the outside.

So let's set ourselves some realistic expectations for Mariani in 2011. Assuming that his offseason workouts have paid off and he shows up to camp healthy, wealthy, and ready to go, I don't see a breakout season as something that can't be achieved. His quality return skills aren't going anywhere for awhile and his production in college was off the charts. A year or two of experience to adjust to the NFL could be just what the doctor ordered when it comes to Marc's career. I truly believe that we're witnessing the maturation of a legitimate slot receiver right before our eyes. Can he dethrone Welker as the game's top threat from the slot? Very, very unlikely. I'd be surprised if he sustained top five status at any point in his career, but can he outperform his draft stock by light years and work his way into the starting offense? I don't see why not.

What the f**k? castefootball needs to start a scouting service, geez do these guys do any research? A 4.6 guy, have they ever even watched a second of Mariani film? Anyways Mariani has the potential to be the next Greg Jennings, not Welker..</BLOCKQUOTE>

What kills me is that Shipley was a consistent 10.8 100 meter runner in high school. Anybody that runs that fast is better than a 4.6 and if anybody goes back and looks at Shipleys college highlights he is shifty as hell. He dosent cut on a dime he cuts on a pebble.

I guess he ran slower than he normally does. The same thing happened to Jeremy Bloom, he was a 4.3, maybe 4.4 guy, but ran closer to 4.5.

Peter King, who really enjoys NFL locker rooms, shows breathtaking ignorance:

One reason I love NFL camps and the proximity to the players I cover: I'm standing in the Titans locker room waiting to meet tight end Jared Cook late Thursday afternoon, and the TV is showing an ESPN story on the top 10 sports rivalries, counting down from 10 to 1.

"Wonder what one is,'' asked fullback Ahmard Hall.

"Gotta be Red Sox-Yanks,'' said returner Yamon Figurs.

Three or four other guys chimed in -- Ohio State-Michigan, Steelers-Ravens, Colts-Patriots, Duke-North Carolina. Then little return man Marc Mariani, the seventh-round smurf from Montana in 2010, said: "No! Montana-Montana State!'' Glares, howls ensued. Figurs was right. When ESPN showed Pedro Martinez grabbing Don Zimmer by the head and throwing that melon to the ground, the players loved it. Just another fun day in a locker room.

Mariani is 6'1" and 190 pounds.

Good find Don. Im surprised Mariani could speak so fast with those slow twitch vocal cords.

Only a 6'1 190 lb white man who happens to be one of an athlete at WR and return man can be called a "7th rd smurf from Montana." Peter King is a disgrace!

Peter King, aka Fat Bastard Jr, obviously doesn't want to be outdone by his fellow analysts when it comes to mocking White football players. Let's take a look another return specialist, Devin Hester. He's listed at 5'11" and 190 lbs, essentially the same size as Mariani. Has anyone ever called him a "smurf"? There are dozens examples like this, of course.

Now imagine if Mariani had been addressed properly:

Then Pro-Bowl return man Marc Mariani, the seventh-round pick from Montana in 2010, said: "No! Montana-Montana State!'' Glares, howls ensued.

See what a difference a simple tweak in the sentence makes, especially when the above sentence is 100% factually correct, while King's description is 100% wrong and racist, to say the least.

It doesn't get much worse than that kind of anti-white bias. King and his ilk surely occupy one of the lowest rungs of society.

King knows full well he can freely insult someone like Mariani without fear of retribution from Mariani because Mariani is probably walking a thin line both on and off the field. One little slip-up from him, either way, and his time is most likely up.

King knows that he's insured from his cheap shot, so he takes advantage of it, being the p*ssy he is. On the other hand, he knows full well he couldn't get away saying anything like that about Hester because Hester may go gangsta on him knowing that nothing would come of it and that King would come out looking like the instigator, but with a black eye to boot.

You know folks, we've become so used to this stuff, that normally we talk about and then let it go. But for whatever reason, this one is just too much for me. Why don't we do something about it? Let's all send this clown a short e-mail, and tell him how we feel.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/writers/peter_king/archive/

There's a link right next to his picture that says 'Email Peter King". Imagine if 10, 20, or hopefully more CF'ers take a minute or so, send him an e-mail, and basically tell him it is unacceptable to insult White players in this manner. What do we have to lose? He actually might get the message.

I'll send him an e-mail right after I'm done with this post.

Email sent. I also asked him to look at Brent Oneals highlights , the high school phenon rb from Florida and tell me how he wasnt in the top 5 ranked rbs in the country this year. Look how McGuffies juniopr year highlights were the best ever seen and still ESPN recruitng only ranked him as the # 30 best rb in the country. He still owns the highest SPARQ rating ever recorded.

Just sent mine. We really need to be more proactive. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks gentlemen!

WL, you're correct. This may be one of several tools we can use to fight the Caste system. Anytime a so-called mainstream analyst mocks a White athlete in such a blatant manner (such as calling a 6'1", 190lb man a tiny smurf), we should flood their inboxes and complain. It takes little time & effort, and if done consistently by a large enough contingent that we have here, who knows what could happen.

Another good idea comes from Electric Slide, if I remember correctly. It has to do with going to various online forums and articulating our points, albeit in such a way as to not get banned because the CM administrators of such forums don't like free speech unless it's politically correct.

Mariani was in for all of two snaps at wide receiver during yesterday's blowout loss to Houston. I had hopes that Mike Munchak would be a nice upgrade over Caste clown Jeff Fisher but it looks like only marginal changes have been made so far, most notably getting rid of Vince Young (which was a given anyway) and getting away from Fisher's preference for black QBs, and playing Karl Klug some at DT.

The Titans gave no effort yesterday at home in what was an important game. It reminds me of when they completely gave up against New England two years ago on the road when Kerry Collins was starting over Young. The change to Young was made shortly after that and the team instantly played much harder after getting their way. What does the "locker room" want this time? Who knows but it appears Munchak is already fast losing his segment of the league's dominant demographic.
