Bobby Engram is small, slow, and old. Yet he is one of the best possession receivers in the league because he understands his position and how to get open.


I look at a guy like that and instead of thinking he's another example of why blacks dominate the receiver position, I see more evidence of why WR should be a white dominated position. There are countless white receivers with as goodor better physical "measurables" than Engram, and who are just as smart or smarter, i.e., they'dhave no problem understanding how to run routes, find open space, come back to the quarterback when he's chased out of the pocket, etc. It's not rocket science we're talking about, though it seems to be to many of the highly touted receivers who never amount tomuch in the NFL despite all the opportunities they get. Give Logan Payne the same opportunity to succeed that so many black receivers get and I'd be shocked if he didn't turn out to be an above average receiver at the least.

Gessner was simply amazing in NFL Europe, the only place he was ever given an opportunity to play.

However, despite putting up amazing collegiate numbers (all while attending an Ivy League school) Gessner has failed to make the Pats (back when their WR corps was terrible) and the Bucs (their WR corps has always been terrible).

Gessner is very tall, very athletic, and has incredible hands. He reminds me of Reggie Wayne, and could easily achieve his level of success. What's with Holmgren lately? He doesnt like Jerehme Urban, and Jurevicious....but drafts Carlson, and suddenly likes Payne and Gessner?

I'm thinking at least one of these two WR's will fail to make the team. You know, if an NFL team kept TWO white skill players...they'd be labeled racist. Same bullsh*t, different day.

When Seattle goes three wide, which is often, and Engram moves to the slot, whichever flanker between Taylor and Payne wins out will see a lot of field time. Payne and Gessner would make a great pair of starters, but much as I'd like to be optimistic that one or both will make the team, given Holmgren's history it's better not to be. I found a couple of gems right out of Racial Stereotyping 101 in this article:


Payne won't blind anyone with his speed, but he compensates with size (6 feet 2, 205 pounds), sure hands and savvy.

Payne getting noticed

Payne continues to shine for the Seahawks:


Logan Payne made a very nice diving catch across the middle, continuing to impress. From the number of people who were interviewing him after practice, I would venture to say you will get your fill of Payne in print and on television tonight and tomorrow. Holmgren said after practice that the real test for Payne is going to be how he responds in game situations. He has seen plenty of examples of players doing well in drills and then disappearing in games. He hopes Payne does not vanish.


This article also reports on some good play by Owen Schmitt. The Seahawks have officially moved T. J. Duckett to fullback. That's not good news for Schmitt. Maybe they'll cut Duckett and keep Schmitt, but Seattle paid Duckett a $2 million signing bonus to lure him away from Detroit. Bobby Engram was injured during Seattle's preseason game and will be out for around two months.Deion Branch isn't expected to be ready for the opener. The Seahawks right now have Nate Burleson as their number one receiver and no one else. Burleson has been mediocre at best except for one season with the Vikings. Caste clown Mikey Holmgren may be forced to give Logan Payne an opportunity this season.

Payne didn't have a good game tonight against the Chargers. Not a bad game, but Charlie Frye, who was otherwise very accurate,was just off in most of his throws to him. There was a long down field pass that Payne had knocked away from him by a Chargers defender just before halftime, nothing he could do about it but Mike Tirico was quick to make a comment ("no offense to Payne but Deion Branch or Bobby Engram might have had it"), then they went to the halftime show and Chris Berman immediately said to Keyshawn Johnson, who wore #19 in his career, "that must hurt, seeing number 19 drop the ball like that." Ridiculous and completely unwarranted.


Meantime Jordan Kent was pretty much the go-to receiver. So don't be surprised if Payne is waived. As Bigunreal noted in the Kevin Kasper thread, only white receivers can go from fighting for number three on the depth chart to being waived overnight.

You've got to be kidding. I heard Tirico's ludicrous comment, but missed Berman's. Just a random thought ... I wonder if Berman has ever caught one football in his entire life.

Tirico was more viciously anti-white last night than I've heard him. The remark about Logan Payne was absurd; if he'd caught that ball, it would have been an incredible catch. In no way, shape or form was that a "drop." Berman referring to it afterwards was even more unbelievable. That should remind us all of just how slim the margin of error is for the rare white skill position player.

In addition to the unjustified swipe at Payne, Tirico also whined about the "criticism" that Ladanian Tomlinson faced last year was, when he didn't play in the AFC championship game. He kept prodding Jaworski to agree with him, and while the always amiable Jaws pretty much did, he managed to point out that LT might have turned off teammates by just standing on the sidelines during the game, without offering any support or encouragement. As I mentioned in another thread, Tirico also pointed out that Eric Weddle had missed a tackle on the long TD pass to Burleson (ignoring the several blacks who were either beaten in coverage or also missed tackles) and then made a nasty comment about Jacob Hester, when he failed to score from the one yard line, saying "he'll find it's a lot easier to score in the SEC than in the NFL." Yeah, I can see him saying that about Reggie Bush.

It will take a monumental effort to overturn this Caste system.

I'm pretty sure I've been telling y'all about how bad Tirico is for at least two years. Thats why I don't listen to that "crew" call games. There are very few NFL crews I will listen to, same with college football.

Some good news finally. Logan Payne has made the Seahawks active roster. They only have 4 healthy WRs on Seattle right now so keep your fingers crossed.

All the injuries to Seattle receivers has moved Payne into the starting role for Sunday's game. RB Maurice Morris, who is better than Julius Jones, is also out. Let's hope Hasselbeck can get the ball to Payne and that he has a good game.

Sorry for not getting back to you Philly. I haven't been back to the thread and seen your question until now. Well, in college I like Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson. I also liked Keith Jackson and Don Criqui in the past. I like Ron Franklin too, and think he should be on a lot more games. Right now he's doing ABC games with Ed Cunningham and Jack Arute.


In the NFL, my current favorite team is Fox's Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. I can stand to listen to Madden and Michaels someof the time, but I'm not much of an NFL game watcher anyway. Other than those, I guess maybe Kenny Albert and Daryl "Moose" Johnson. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms aren't too bad.

It was a very cheap shot, as Logan was in the air, having just caught a ball, the defender went straight for his knee with his helmet at 100mph. Logan was completely defenseless and there was nothing he could do.


It was a nasty injury, and I knew right awayitwas over for him.
