The Athletic dropped an interesting nugget Monday when it reported that the Las Vegas Raiders’ expect undrafted free agent wide receiver Dillon Stoner to make the 53-man roster.

It’s fascinating that the team thinks an undrafted rookie will make the roster this early in the process. Clearly, Stoner must be standing out in the OTA sessions.

But there is a long way to go. He will need to shine throughout training camp and in the preseason.

Additionally, Stoner’s journey is interesting because the Raiders have a crowded group at wide receiver. It will be difficult for any undrafted player to crack the 53-man roster at wide receiver. The Raiders will probably keep six receivers, perhaps they can carry seven if it is warranted, but that’s pretty rare and would take away from another spot on the roster.

Basically, if Stoner makes the roster, someone unexpectedly won’t make it, unless there is an injury at the position.

2020 draft picks Henry Ruggs III, Bryan Edwards, slot receiver Hunter Renfrow and newly-signed veterans John Brown and Willie Snead are all locks to make the roster. That leaves veteran Zay Jones (who Raiders coach Jon Gruden really likes), Marcell Ateman, Keelan Doss, Trey Quinn, DJ Turner, Caleb Scott and Stoner all fighting for one spot.

The way I read it now is the Raiders see a higher ceiling for Stoner, an Oklahoma State product, than Doss and Ateman, who were both former camp darlings themselves. I could see the last spot coming down to Jones and Stoner.

However it shakes out, it’s going to be fun to watch develop this summer.

Stoner’s a local kid I watched at powerhouse Jenks High School. He played safety, wide receiver and returner on a state championship team. He also ran track and was an excellent 400M guy. Nothing but quality and class at OK State, but never the primary receiver. Just a good looking, smart kid from a great family. A type rarely found in the NFL.

Dillon is one of three white receivers from the 2021 draft that I think definitely belong on 53 man rosters this year. The other two are Dax Milne and Blake Proehl. Only Milne was drafted.

*Also calling Willie Snead a "lock" to make a roster is friggin hilarious. He's always been the epitomy of an average WR with upside to hang around..I remember watching a game either last year or year before and they were saying "yeah Willie came into the season a bit out of shape blah blah." Must be nice to be short, fat, and slow and still get calls from teams.

Trey Quinn is a good player who, unfortunately, has been plagued by injuries. If he can stay healthy I think he would easily stick with a team.

Trey Quinn will beat Snead out ((if he stays healthy)) & likely be Renfrow's back up. Would like to see those Two on the field at the Same time(even in 4 WR sets) !

Can see Dillon Stoner as a Practice Squad player; hoped he would be taken late in the Draft. (BIG FAN of his posting Weekly Re=Caps waiting for his stats).! But the landed in a good spot. Hard to envision the Raiders(or any team not named the Vikings) allowing 3 white WR's on a Final Roster

Unfortunate coincidence that in a 3/4 black league where so many of the white players have to fight for spots on the fringes of the rosters, the first proud homosexual is one of the few white regulars.

Steve Sailer has a quip from years ago that I've always remembered regarding gays in sports. If gays were represented at their nationwide levels, we would have seen a bunch of major league pitchers dropping dead from AIDS in the 80s. But we didn't, because they're not.

I want to try to avoid being cruel, but Nassib is no longer an athlete I could support. I'm sure he has positive personal qualities, and his homosexuality does not discount the prejudice he faces naturally as a white player. That does not outweigh the fact that he's publicly joined in the anti-family, anti-Western, anti-white culture war as a crusader for the other side. So no, I don't wish him any success.

The corporate media Clown World is covering it as though Nassib is "courageous" as are the players and media for supporting him, when of course it's mandatory that everyone do so. Real courage would be a player not supporting him, or even saying who cares. "Representation matters" unless it's a non-approved opinion.

Nassib signed with the Raiders in 2020 after two seasons in Cleveland and two years in Tampa. He recorded 12.5 sacks during his two seasons with the Bucs. Last year, Nassib had 2.5 sacks in 14 games, five of which he started.

If I was a reporter I’d ask players if they minded getting his blood on them? That’s got to come up right? How about the trainers when he gets cut? We just closed down the world because of a bad flu virus what are the precautions if this guy starts spraying blood around?

His comment he didn’t do it for “attention” is a joke. That’s all he is going to get now. This part time player is going to be a footnote in history. On the bright side it’s one white player that will be difficult to cut.

I had the same thought. He is in no way, shape or form "brave". If he was not seeking any sort of attention then he would not of brought this attention upon himself in the first place.

I will no longer support Nassib on the field. With that said, I do feel somewhat sorry for him. It is highly likely that he was sexually abused / molested as a child. There is plenty of circumstantial evidence that is how sodomites become the way they are. It’s is a sad cycle of abuse and grooming.
