How did Cousins not get his own thread after beating the Ravens and Browns?

I'm not going to rehash the RG3 injury situation except to say that it looks like RG3 will missa big chunk of 2013, maybe the entire season if the worst rumors are true. Right now Cousins is the de facto starter, and Grossman is the backup.

I think it's clear the Redskins will pick up at least one more QB before the 2013 season starts; let's review some possibilities:

A: They draft another mid-late round QB to compete with Grossman for the backup position.
B: They draft or trade for someone who can legitimately compete with Cousins for the starting position.
C: They trade for a QB and give him the starting job. The problem with this idea is that a QB good enough to be named the starter outright isn't going to want to come into a situation where he will get benched as soon as RG3 is healthy when he can just go to a team where he'll get 16 starts.

This leaves the worst option,
D: We bring in a black quarterback like Michael Vick to temporarily replace RG3. It's a horrible idea, yet it's exactly the kind of thing that goy-hater Dan Snyder would do. Vick would most likely jump at the chance, because he's well into the downside of his career. He won't mind RG3's inevitable return as much, because at least he's being benched in favor of a fellow cornballer, rather than a cracker.

Its been pretty obvious that he is a first round talent, if he were coming out this year I don't think he makes it out of the first round. In a fair world he goes ahead of Geno Smith, but they are trying to push that guy no matter what.

Kirk is pretty mobile, he has a great arm and has a good head on his shoulders. Hopefully he can get a chance to be a starter long term somewhere after a few starts. Fans of other teams have already mentioned bringing him in but of course with RG3 hurt its unlikely.

yeah, Cousins looked good when he stepped in.
If Griffin spends good portions of his early career injured (which is likely) & Cousins comes in and performs well (also I believe likely. He's a good QB, and Washington has a good O-line.). Cousins & his agent won't wanna stay in a support role, I think they'll start looking for other places where he could start.
What does Cousins contract look like, anyone know (?)

Anything Gremlin can do Cousins can do better. Hes smarter, tougher, and throws a more accurate pass. The only things RG can do better is lay on the field hurt, and run fast in a straight line. Of course we all know straight line speed is the key to being a great QB lol.

Seems like a good place to point this out. After the Cleveland Browns game a lot of DWFs were saying that it proved nothing because the Browns were crap. Well one thing the Browns had was a decent defense, a defense that gave up more points to the Cousins led Redskins than any team that year.

Just food for thought.

Mike Shanahan knew exactly what he was doing. He knew RG3 was nothing more than an injury prone hype job. I said it the day of the draft that this will be Heath Shuler/Gus Frerotte all over again and thats what its shaping to be.

Cousins injured last night on just the second play from scrimmage... he ran for the 1st down on 2nd and 3, tackled around the ankles and sprained his foot. Stupid to be scrambling in a meaningless preseason gam

It wasn't the second play from scrimmage. I agree though, he needs to learn how to slide. Everytime a QB leaves the pocket I fear the worst.

Its not that meaningless for him. Any chance he has to display he talent he needs to exploit. Barring injury to RG3 (which is likely) he's only going to be a back up in Washington. If he plays well enough in his opportunities he might get picked up by another team eventually.

Pulling the ball down quickly to run on 2nd and 3 in preseason is not a talent teams want to see from a white QB. Especially not when he gets caught on is way to the sideline. Thanks to that, we didn't see him for the rest of the game, and may even see him less in the regular season than we otherwise would have. The only one to benefit from this was Rex Grossman, who had a solid game.

Washington Post & USA Today were both reporting that the initial word (from an anon source), is that Cousins' injury is superficial (no ligament damage) & he should be available by Week 1.. I guess we'll see.
With Griffin's style of play, I think we'll get to see Cousins again some this year.

Tony Dungy says Cousins should start. I think it may happen at some point this season.

Yes I heard some talk of that on some show, the thinking was that RGIII is still injured and that he is no good without the threat of his running. Something we have been saying here. They also mentioned his stats have all been in garbage time and are misleading. So sometimes the MSM sports guys get it partly right.

After the first two weeks it looks like the read option has been limited with its effectiveness. Griffin can't play in a traditional offense and make the throws like Peyton, Brees, Brady etc.

I think he hit his career peak his rookie season.

yep been saving Kirk Cousins on my fantasy roster when so I have him when he gets his shot which he deserves, he has that "it" factor, the qb of the future. Don't think he will be as good as Locker but still at the top in a few years.

has anyone noticed the pattern of black quarterbacks having problems with their coaches, Rg3 with Shanahan and Freeman with Schiano, and Schiano is supposed to be a wigger so it seems like it would be hard for a black player to piss him off.

I was watchin First Take yesterday :icon_redface:, and Jerome Bettis had a sane, fair-minded take on the Skins QB situation..
He basically said, if Washington had any suspicions about RG Knee's health, they should've started Cousins in week 1. Instead of using the early part of the regular season to warm up Griffin, they would've had a better chance using Cousins in this style offense.

Now that they're committed to rehab-ing Griffin, they're probably (& pride-fully) locked into Griffin no matter what. Sad, but true, I think.. & respect to the Bus, for saying what DWFs are too neutered to state.

It looks as if Mike Shanahan is on the way out in Washington.

Perhaps he'll take Cousins with him to whatever team he goes to. He'd have to trade for him with Washington.

Once again a black QB submarines a white coach. Not sure what Shanahan was thinking when he drafted the turd. It seems like the GM wanted a precious black quarterback. I posted an article where he would of been fine staying put and drafting Tannehill who has improved this season instead of giving up the farm for the overrated RGScreen.

I find it hilarious having all the apologists for Griffin come out of shadows and make up bogus explanations for why he is struggling. This guy rode a two year wave of media hype from stealing the Heisman from Luck to the bogus rookie of the year award he had last year. The media and dwfandom had so much invested in Griffin and he has failed miserably in his second year.

I hope Cousins escapes DC soon so he is able to get a starting job sooner rather than later.

Kirk Cousins has outplayed Robert Griffin by a wide margin this preseason.

While it's still unlikely that Cousins will be the opening day starter, if Griffin gets injured again or continues to play badly for numerous regular season games Cousins might get a shot.

Whatever happens, based on his play, it looks as if Cousins will end up being a starter someday, somewhere.

The Washington Post was reporting today that Cousins is making noise about remaining a compliant back-up to an unchallenged Griffin..
I like that Cousins is showing some fight. I believe he still has the longest & brightest future of Washington's three QBs. I understand the criticism of Cousins' turnovers.. but they're typical of a young QB. Cousins has less than a full season of starts under his belt, and this year he tossed 10 TDs to 9 INTs in limited starts (not that bad for a young starter). I watched the majority of Cousins' starts this year. This guy can sling.. He throws a strong long-ball, which is something that has recently been non-existent in Griffin's game.

Even if Cousins ultimately ends up a back-up; I hope it's within a better franchise, w/fair ownership. No way Cousins should be 3rd string behind one of the lamest starters in the game.

Interceptions are often used to malign White quarterbacks who aren't afraid to throw the ball down the field. Sure, Cousins could throw 5 yard passes all game like many black QBs (and Alex Smith) and have hardly any picks, but so what? Some interceptions are unavoidable in any offense that tries to push the ball down the field, the key is whether they can be limited over time, i.e., knowing when to throw the ball away instead of trying to hit a receiver who is being closely guarded by two defenders. Cousins has shown enough that he should get a shot at being a starter, whether in Washington or somewhere else.

Cousins is in the last year of his rookie contract.

Hopefully he'll go to another team and become a starter. Cousins has the ability to be the long term solution for some team.

As long as the Redskins have Griffin I don't think he'll get a chance to be the unquestioned starter there. Because of what they gave up to get him and the fact that he's black the Redskins will likely stick with Griffin no matter what.
