Taylor is a punk and he got what was coming to him. Before the fight in an interview he stated that Pavlik is not a good fighter. He had no respect for Pavlik whatsover. I am happy he lost.

Pavlik was able to block the elbow with his right hand or he would have been hit flush in the face with the elbow. It llooked intentional.

Pavliks been gettin a lot of positive publicity and the media loves him for some odd reason. There was a really good article about him in the new sports illustrated.

I love this kid. I remember reading of him years ago, then he seemed to disappear, but he was just working his way up the ladder. Finally saw him fight, on Versus TV maybe seven or eight fights ago. Pavlik seemed rather slow, and I was wondering what the fuss was about, then he hit the other guy with an average looking punch and the dude went down as if he'd been decapitated and Kelly had a new fan.

On top of it all, Kelly has been really gracious about his success. After every win he always thanks HBO and Bob Arum, and this time he even remembered his good friend Lou DiBella. Pavlik knows the barriers and attitudes he's had to overcome, but he hasn't popped off and whined and moaned and groaned or referred to himself in the third person or anything like that. With all his success, he's still a modest, low key working class guy.Edited by: Hockaday

Something from prefight:

After
spending a good bit of time discounting Pavlik's qualification as a
challenger, Taylor answered one reporter's question why he thought
Pavlik was getting a title shot.

"Because he's 'The Ghost,'" Taylor said of the double entendre in a nudge-nudge, wink-wink tone.

Just so Taylor wouldn't be misinterpreted, DiBella cleared the air.

"He (Pavlik) is white," DiBella said. "Let's face reality."

But I'd still like to know what Pavlik was doing with his hands in the bottom photo here

Is that not discrimination calling Pavlik "The Ghost." What if a black guy was called "Asphalt." That obviously wouldn't be allowed. This double standard crap makes me sick. I was listening to KTU, station in New York, this morning and the have Whoopi Goldberg on there. They were having some stupid conversation about who Whoopi knows in Hollywood. She then said some white actors name and said, " I know that whiteboy." Absolutely ridicolous.

I noticed someone said that Pavlik is slow. Garbage. If Pavlik was slow how did he beat that "superior athlete" Jermain Taylor.

Pavlik was called "The Ghost" by all the darkies that inhabited the gym he trained at earlier in his career. He decided to keep that tag, it wasn't forced on him.

Would you call him fast? I wouldn't. Let's just call him sneaky quick. In my prediction I said Taylor would be faster, but Pavlik would have just enough speed to put his big guns on target.

I would compare Pavlik to the great Alexis Arguello. Arguello was a tall rangy fighter who almost always had slower hands than his opponants. He made up for it with timing, perfect punching form, and power.

Pavlik doesn't have quite the punching form that Arguello does, but he's the same type of fighter and IMO punch for punch hits harder.

I watched the Pavlik-Taylor fight and Pavlik was ripping jabs between Taylors gloves and tagging him straight on for the whole fight. Those jabs were lightening quick and Taylor could do nothing to stop them. I would say Pavlik has quick hands from what I saw. Maybe he's just "sneaky fast"

Pavlik has great defense for a brawler type. Other one gear types like Juan Roldan didn't anticipate temple shots they way he does. If you notice he is always raising his gloves ready for counter shots.

True. But I've noticed his hips are a little tight.

Is sneaky fast in boxing the same as deceptive speed in football (LOL)

Does it really matter if he was faster? He was obviously fast enough to knock him out. Every white fighter has some negative things said about him. I think in Kelly's case it just motivates him. As far as the comment about Kelly getting a shot because he is white, that's just standard operating proceedure, kinda like great white hope and all those other worn out cliches. I think it's probably time for a great black hope. Wouldn't that be a change?
