Both Keller and Reus cracked under pressure. Reur ran 10.14 and 10.16 just two weeks before Weinheim. No excuses. They just looked
horrible out there. Maybe it was the inexperience of running at the highest levels because they looked more nervous than a kid going
in for his first kiss. It has to be crushing to both of these guys and it's a sad way to go out. It might end up killing their relay team too which
currently has the 3rd fastest time in the world in the 4 x 100 relay! Their confidence has been devastated. It's sad.

From Track and Field News

Germany's 100m sprint champion Julian Reus has challenged Borussia Dortmund winger Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to a sprint race to prove whether the football star is faster than Usain Bolt. Aubameyang, who has scored nine Bundesliga goals this season, has clocked 3.7seconds over 30 metres in training, suggesting that he is faster than Bolt, who clocked 3.78secs over the same distance en route to setting the 100m world record of 9.58secs in 2009.

Last Saturday, Gabon international Aubameyang told German television show Sportstudio that he is faster than Bolt, a claim German sprint champion Julian Reus is eager to challenge and wants to race him.

"It is a blatant myth that Aubameyang is faster than Usain Bolt," said the 25-year-old Reus, whose personal best is 10.08secs, while Aubameyang has yet to accept the challenge.

"What Aubameyang claimed on television really annoyed me. I want to restore athletics' honour."

Here is a good interview after he defended his gold medal as the fastest man in Germany. He ran 10.05 for a new german national record in the semi finals and he eased up at the finish. He then won the finals in a wind aided time of 10.01 to retain his title from last year.

28/07/2014 | Interview
Julian Reus: "The worst thing would be if I would be satisfied now"

Alexandra Neuhaus

He is the fastest man in Germany. Julian Reus has taken over the weekend not only for the second time in a row the German championship title on the much acclaimed 100 meter distance, but wiped out an age-old record in 10.05 seconds. In an interview, Wattenscheider talks about the sound barrier of 10.00 seconds at the European Championships medal dreams and why he does not like limits.

Video: Julian Reus spintet German record
Video: Julian Reus and Lucas Jacubczyk run at an invalid Wind 10.01

Julian Reus, you have understood what you have done last weekend at all?
Julian Reus:

So really I have not done it. I'll probably only realize at the end of the season, what happened there on Saturday. For it is in two weeks so still the European Championships in Zurich. The worst thing that could happen now would be if I would be satisfied now. Because the most important competition of the year is only just in Zurich and I have to the point top performance rates. Only then I can let the season pass in review and then realize sure what I've done.

It was not just any record that you have broken. After holding the Magdeburg Frank Emmelmann the record of 10.06 seconds since 1985. Can an attack on such a record plan?
Julian Reus:

No, even though many have repeatedly asked for it and we German sprinter yes also came close before. I was convinced that I have the potential, if all factors fit together, since the last few years already went well. Martin Keller and Lucas Jakubczyk are both failed due to a hundredth. But when I was on Saturday in front of the intermediate run, then already had the idea, if not now, then when '. So a bit one plans bring me much. Because I was in top form, the conditions were good and in the intermediate run one runs but a little looser, because you can then dare to try something. But it has actually worked out in the end, makes me very proud and happy.

You mention the other German sprinter, as so often. The mood among German sprinters seem to be good, it sounds like a functioning team of actual individual athletes. But how much it is still competition? After all, it was the weekend for the German championship.
Julian Reus:

When I sit in the starting block, everyone is a competitor, since there are no friendships. But is it really true that we all respect each other extremely, write to each other and also make calls at leisure. We also benefit athletic very different. And that is disappointed after a race or other times, or sour, that's perfectly okay, we are all still individual athletes. We are a team become strong and transmit the now to the individual services. It works great among us.

Not only in the head of the German men's sprint is strong, even in width. The German Men's Sprint soon as today has never been. What are the reasons?
Julian Reus:

This is also a team effort. 2011 has analyzed its national coaches and biomechanics of the Association, do what other fast sprinters, where we still have potential and the results attempts to transmit to us. These training camps are in the heat, such as in Florida, where we have great conditions. It regenerated in the heat just much better may be more intense workout and which we all benefit. And then added sure that I ran 10.09 seconds in 2012. It was like a kind of can openers, because it has shown us that you can actually run quickly under good conditions. We are all doing well on average and can characterize well the image in the men's sprint.

This means in plain text: Its potential is not yet exhausted.
Julian Reus:

I have learned for myself that it is allowed to push the limits. If someone had told me four years ago that you can run under 10.10 seconds, I would have shaken his head. Today I know it goes. It is important that you, even if it runs well, does not rest, but also dares then, an even to change two things in order to become even better. Because that's obviously the goal, but one can not assume that it comes from years continuously steep uphill year now. But I am convinced that we can stably and sell well in the coming years.

Is a time less than ten seconds possible?
Julian Reus:

Of this so hang in many factors such as the conditions alone already. But in the German men's sprint, it lies dormant and when the day comes X, this barrier may fall. But you should not count the days it now.

What one or two things because you can optimize with himself yet?
Julian Reus:

These are technical details about my step behavior in the final meters. Since I lose by international standards a bit. But in the exact analysis of these details, I will throw myself on the season. I am anyway so the guy who always small changes in training needs, so I do not for three years stupid abspule the same grid.

This season we will not live to see these changes. In two weeks, the European Championships begin in Zurich. What kind of feeling you take from Ulm to Switzerland?
Julian Reus:

A very good. But above all, the goal is to confirm the performance of Ulm there to hold my own in competition mode one against one, and thus to show beautiful race like in Ulm.

There, however, a very different race constellation is waiting for you. In the intermediate run, you can not run loose there rather.
Julian Reus:

So I can also work around that I have shown in Ulm in the final. Lucas Jakubczyk and I are fully addressed by the first step and have still managed to do our own thing and full follow through. That was a good rehearsal for Zurich. Because if we do it at the European Championships as well, we can get very far there.

How far, very far '?
Julian Reus:

That would definitely be the individual to the finals and since then everything is in there. What I want to achieve since then, this objective can I think after the semi-finals. And with the season, we want to run with the win. ]

Reus wants to go sub 10 by the German Championships!

10/06/2015 | DM 2015
Julian Reus wants to write history in Nuremberg

Christian Rupp

Julian Reus wants to run at the German Championships in Nuremberg (24 to 26 July) the first German to 100 meters under ten seconds. Seven weeks before the competition in already so far with 15,000 spectators per day filled frankenstadion the 27-year-old was relaxed and gave a race with radio presenter Florian Kerschner from Media Hit Radio N1.

Julian Reus is the fastest man in Germany: 10,05 seconds his best performance at 100 meters. Only half blink of an eye is missing in order to crack the magic to run less than ten seconds, thereby making history. "Every now and then this number is of course present," is the German record holder, "but I know what it all has to fit. There are so many factors that play purely because of: the shape, the temperature, the wind, the track and the spectators. It is a challenging task, but it's doable. "

From the excitement Wattenscheider is no trace. Hard to imagine, because in Nuremberg will whip him more than 15,000 fans to the front. "I hope people do neat atmosphere," said the blond boy looking forward to the atmosphere in the octagonal stadium and declared with shining eyes: "I think it's cool to walk in front of so many people, in so far pushes me rather than to me makes worse. "

The necessary looseness

This composure beaming Julian Reus also at the press conference with media Hit Radio N1. Morning Host Florian Kerschner called the Sprinter from TV Wattenscheid 01 to a duel. A welcome change for the 27-year-old who laughed a lot, joked and the odd cheeky slogan was ready. "You have the Sprint already be concentrated and focused, but also needs the necessary looseness in order to run fast," explains the likeable Hanauer.

Then the starting signal. Julian Reus catapulted himself out of his starting block and hisses almost noiselessly on tiptoe with short steps. Although the model athlete is only half gas, the race is decided prematurely after only five meters: The fastest man in Germany has already three meters ahead and seconds later almost out of sight.

"As Trabant against Ferrari"

"It's like you obsolete a fast train. As Trabant against Ferrari. You feel as if you are, that's brutal, "Florian Kerschner marveled at the explosiveness of his side's. "On television, falling on not so because all run pretty similar. But the difference is stark: he runs like a gazelle ".

Julian Reus also took unequal battle with a lot of humor: "Flo has done well, has become Second, a sovereign power. It was a cool action and a lot of fun. "After that, the German champion was still available for practical jokes and played his national coach Ronald Stein an on-air phone prank. "He's really mad relaxed and incredibly nice. A sympathetic guy, very down to earth. With him, I would go drinking and a beer in the evening, "Kerschner said with a wink.

Reus wants the Triple

In seven weeks, there will be serious but, when it comes into the starting blocks in the Grundig Stadium. Julian Reus speaks of "thrills and adrenaline," because "you can not afford to make mistakes." When Sprint even there but "thoughtlessness. When I run, I think of nothing, "said the athlete. The training to the German Championships is through carefully planned and calculated.

"In the last two weeks I prepare myself mentally then the championships before," chats Julian Reus, who has recovered from his injury early in the season on the left flexor, out of school. "I'm on the right track. The German Championships is nothing in the way! "

After the gold medals in Ulm in 2013 and 2014 in Nuremberg then the really big coup follow: "My goal is to accomplish the triple," says Julian Reus. And maybe make history ...?

Another race and another seasons best for Julian Reus. He won today in a very fast time of 10.07 wind legal
so he is progressing nicely. I have told you guys he will go sub 10 for the past couple of years. i still stand by
my prediction in this olympic year. Reus won very easily and had a monster lead over the whole field by 60
meters. He actually seemed to ease up a little over the last 10 meters. I'm hoping that he smashes the
sub 10 barrier at the German National Championships! He is such an inspirational to the young sprinters there.

if he gets a fast rack with 0+ wind I think he can do it. It will be nice is he does do it, maybe it will push Lemaitre to step up his game. I also see similar high knee lift as Kilty but with much better shoulders and arm drive. Being a shorter sprinter in height his leg turnover is amazing and his relaxation is very good, just watch his cheeks and lips. I really enjoy his races...which meet did he run the 10.05?

If I remember right it was at the german national champs 2 years ago in the semi finals. He eased down in that race. Reus even admitted he might have had a sub 10 but he didn't know how fast he was going and he wanted to conserve his energy for the final. Reus ran a wind aided 10.01 last year. The wind was 2.1 so just over the limit bye an eyelash. He has been on the verge for quite a while. My only complaint with him is he runs better at home. He needs to be more consistant in other countries and especially in the world champs, olympics and european champs. We have 2 of the 3 this summer. Let's see how he does! More than anything I want a few sub 10's from him and maybe a medal at the euro champs next month. Baby steps.

I was going to say I have noticed he tends to ease up 5-10m from the finish line when he is ahead, I agree he could have gone under 10 in that race if he had run straight through the finish line. Sometimes sprinters get into a bad habit of doing this and it is hard to correct. His block starts and acceleration/drive phases are extremely good.

Julian Reus ran another new german national record time today of 10.01 seconds! This is his 3rd sub 10.10
of the season and he was only 2/100th of a second from his first sub 10! Reus continues to knock on the door
with some amazing times in Germany. Hoping he can show some good form at the Olympics in August in
Rio. It would be incredible for him to make the finals but it would take a perfect combonation of races as all
of the worlds top sprinters will be there. Good luck to the pride of Germany in two weeks time.

To be fair to Julian Reus he did run a 10.14 at the World Championships in Bejing, China last sumer. Despite
not making the finals that is a pretty good run if you ask me. So he does run well sometimes. He also didn't
make the finals at this summers european championships by 1/1000th of a second. He had the same time as
the guy that advanced. He leaned too early and it cost him a shot at the finals.

So let's root this kid on guys. He has been our most consistant guy in the 100 outside of Lemaitre who has regressed
since 2011. Reus deserves alot more respect than he gets in my opinion.

It would be amazing to see Reus become the second white sprinter to break the 10-second mark at the Rio games. Since he's not only white, but a good-looking, light-featured young German man, it would be a cringe-inducing moment for the Caste media...

in HEAT 10.14 (0.5) = 10.16 BASIC TIME (it's not amazing)
in SEMI FINAL 10.28 (-0.4) = 10.26 BASIC TIME (it's bad)

this sprinter is Strange, very fast in Germany and bad in international competion

i don't know why

unfortunately it ain't going to happen judging on his past efforts - Kilty, for instance, has much more international credibility and he's no real threat to the big 100 guys.
A scenario of 9.98 with 2 meter assisting wind isn't going to impress anyone.
Model looks and fast times in his homeland only get you so far. He must do it at a big international meet and take some scalps - having said that I hope he breaks his run of outs come Rio

we have a woman like that here in Australia. Holds our record at 11.11 which she ran on her home track, + 1.8 wind, 650 metres elevation, warm, family and friends there to cheer her on.
Send her to Japan or an international meet and she finds it tough to break into the 11.30s high. And it happens time after time as Australian workers' taxes pay for her little unproductive trips away

Reus is going to have to run his heart out and defy his international history to make the final in Rio.

He will probably have to got sub 10 in his semi-final to make the final.

Realistically, I can only envision an Asian sprinter making the final this year. Maybe Su or Kiryu. Reus will have to run a PR and not choke up against the big dogs. Lemaitre is a mess, Kilty wasn't selected, and Hortelano is a 200 guy. Maybe someone like Hassan Taftian can surprise us...

Now the 200 is a whole 'nother story.....I think Hortelano, Guliyev, Gemili all have legit chances at making the final....even Lemaitre and the Greek may have a good shot at the final lane.

Basically reiterating what Mastermulti said - - --
If Reus breaks 10 flat at some little track meet in the German countryside where he normally runs his fast times, it will mean almost nothing. It will discounted and discredited because he has no credibility as an international sprinter.
Richard Kilty also ran 10.01 at a small meet, but Kilty has credibility because he competes against top international sprinters all the time.

I really don't understand why Reus never competes internationally. He only runs in meets in Germany and then goes on to European or World Championships and then performs poorly. Very poorly for someone who supposedly can run sub 10.10 regularly.
There are big, non-championship international meets all over Europe every summer. I don't know why, but Reus never competes at these meets.

So Reus HAS TO run well at Rio, or anything else he does at these small meets, including a sub-10, will be almost meaningless.
