Miami Marlins ace pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed Sunday morning after a boat crash in Miami Beach.

For quite some time, I've been meaning to ask my fellow castefootball posters as to their perspective on Jose Fernandez.

As a white Cuban American from the Miami area, I have always heard positive things about the kid and how he loved this country very much.

I am well aware that the ESPN Marxist machine has always done their due diligence in hyping up the black Cuban baseball players, but for some reason, they didn't seem to discuss Jose as much.....Did they see him as a white athlete?

Your thoughts?

I have always wanted to vacation in Miami I figured it would be a foreign vacation without the need for my passport. But I am a typical "white bread" white man from a stereotypical Midwestern town so take it FWIW.

Very tragic. I considered him white. He was one of the great young pitchers in baseball at just 24. The worst part is he left a pregnant gf behind.

This is shocking news. Very tragic. I was a fan of his. RIP.

Wow R.I.P. horrible news.

It sucks for sure but this was incredibly bad judgement on his part. It's like a guy killing himself in a high performance car. Bad life choices.

Yeah sounds like there was alcohol involved. It was highly reckless of him and it cost him his life.

I guess I can understand the team canceling their game, everyone is such a pussy nowadays, you can't expect grown men to be able to swing a baseball bat with tears in their eyes. But the Tigers gave Jose Iglesis the day off because he was friends with the guy. Sheesh I think I'll take the day off from work tomorrow, I saw the guy pitch once.

Nice post Flint.

It is unfortunate that Fernandez died so early in life but the way he is being treated like some sort of national hero/treasure is truly symbolic of how much this country is upside down. I have seen tribute after tribute, all MLB teams remembering him, Miami football will wear a sticker to commemorate him, that fat dope Dan LaBatard was on TV crying about him and his impact on the Cuban community.
