Sad stuff. You never know- Donald Driver may retire after his 2011 season or something- he'll be on the wrong side of 35 and may call it a career since he's had some injury problems. Maybe we can make peace with the fact he's performing well, conducts himself as a class act and is a respected veteran and not simply there by quotas. It's the really unjust cases that should make us angry. I do think Jordy could very quickly perform like Driver is and soon surpass him this season- if given a chance, but only blacks are looked at for "upside". Let's stay as positive here as we can!

During PFW's early-August visit to the Packers' training camp, no player looked any better than Jordy Nelson.

Normally caught up in heavy traffic in the practice sessions we witnessed, the third-year wideout caught just about every pass thrown to him, displaying great hands and excellent concentration.

Nelson, who finished last season on a high note with a TD catch in the Packers' classic wild-card loss to the Cardinals, credits spending the entire offseason in Green Bay, running routes for QB Aaron Rodgers, as the key to his training-camp success.

"It goes a long way," Nelson told PFW three days before the Packers' season opener in Philadelphia. "I already knew the playbook, but there's so much that goes into running slants and posts the right way, using the right leverage and things like that."

Despite his great camp, the consensus seems to be that, at least initially, Nelson will likely make a bigger impact as a kickoff returner than as a receiver.

While many in league circles believe Nelson would be a certain starting WR on many other NFL teams, he is currently the No. 4 receiver on the Packers behind Greg Jennings, the ageless Donald Driver and James Jones, who many close to the team believe had just as good an overall camp as Nelson.

That said, Nelson figures to get his share of big-play opportunities in the Packers' multifaceted, "something for everybody" offense, which he believes will be even better than last year's unit.

"Yes, I think we can do a lot better," Nelson told PFW. "There were a lot of things we did early last season that we can't get back, a lot of dropped catches. And there are always different ways to run routes. If you don't change them up, the defensive backs will start jumping your routes all the time."

One new thing the Packers' offense is doing this year is branching out at the slot position, once the exclusive domain of Driver, who by all accounts has shown a real willingness to share the wealth.

"He's our leader," Nelson said of Driver, who is entering his 12th season in a Packers uniform. "He does all the right things on and off the field and is willing to do whatever it takes to win games. Moving around guys to a lot of different positions should help us."

All of the bruthas supposedly look like "football players." I've had quite a few conversations with DWF's fans who claim Wes Welker is only good because he is covered by slower linebackers and safeties. Leonard is only good because he has goods hands and blocks good. Jordy Nelson and Austin Collie are slow possession receivers. The list goes on and on.

We break the taboo against telling these drunks that this is all "anti-white" by using that exact phrase then the caste system will crumble. As of now we are quibbling details with 40 times and other minutae to avoid using the phrase "anti-white." "Anti-white" we think being too loaded to use and its use might bounce us out of the company of people we fear or heaven forbid respect. Wile, I think we should judge the context. To someone who is a complete DWF, saying anti-white will immediately make him question everything else you're saying, no matter how correct it may be. Jordy Nelson is a real ST return weapon. He nearly broke 1 for a TD...I hope they utilize him even more. Great threat for 3rd down packages and even to mix it up. I predict Jordy will return at least 3 punts and/or kicks for TDs this year.
GB has some good WRs. Let's be fair.

I hope they make the SB. They are my favorite team this year.

ANy exposure is good exposure, especially for Jordy. He can show how explosive he can be with the ball in his hands and it will get noticed by DWFS who will slowly realize his athleticism.

Let's see how often Rodgers throws to Jordy after James Jones' whining. Nelson has been getting noticeably more targets and catches of late.
And even when he isn't injured, Driver looks terrible this season. I haven't seen him make a catch yet; all have been drops when I've been watching the Packers, and he had a lot of crucial drops last year. It's time for a passing of the torch but of course Driver has reached "super revered" status:

Had to send some big-time props to Jordy Nelson...figured it was only a mattter of time for the 6'-3" 217 WR to get a long TD...an 80 yarder; the affletic secondary of Rolle, Grant &amp; Phillips were not going to catch Jordy..not even with a good angle....he finished with 4 rec 124 yards!

People can scoff at me if they'd like...but I see Jordy Nelson comparable to Andre Johnson as far as being an elite reciever...he just has not had enough opportunities witha deep WR corpswith the Pack...as tempting as it would be to see Nelson as the "Go-To" WR with a team like the Browns (help take pressure off stud RB Peyton Hillis)...Rodgers is too good a QB for him to say good-bye to...they are starting to really develop more of a chemistry...

Nelson has career highs of 43 for 543 this season. Driver is 46/524, but missed a few games. James Jones is 49/671, which means the production has been pretty evenly divided after Greg Jennings.



Driver's clearly slowed down. And he used to have pretty good hands but doesn't any more. Jordy's fate next season depends on what the Packers do with Driver. He's not as good as Nelson or Jones, but he's "revered" and signed a contract extension earlier this season. This situation reminds me a lot of how Kevin Curtis was stuck for years behind the "revered" but obviously lesser talent Isaac Bruce in St. Louis. Jordy may have to leave as a free agent to get a chance to start somewhere.

He was amazing when they used him correctly at K-State, could catch anything, no matter how poorly Freeman threw it. Big frame and 4.49 speed. I wish he could wind up on another team that would actually use him. I don't think he ever going to be the go to guy in Green Bay, no matter what happens there is always someone that jumps him on the depth chart. I don't know about going to the Browns, not sure how strong McCoy's arm is, would like to see him used consistently as a deep threat. He could be better than Johnson, because he wouldn't need 170 targets to put up 100 catches.
