Joe Smith Jr, a construction worker from long Island New York, won the WBC International Light Heavyweight Title by scoring a first round knock out of top World Title contender Andrzej Fonfara. The fight was the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card on NBC. (June 18, 2016).

Wow. Looked like Fonfara had Smith in a bit of trouble and wanted to finish him but got finished himself. I think Smith threw that right just to get Fonfara off of him and it sure did the job.

Easy for me to say, but Fonfara should have grabbed Smith and held on for dear life.

A lot of meaning to the expression "lucky punch". Joe Smith is now in luck to win a much bigger prize after this fluke. Don't seem him as a top contender but now he will get at least one payday as such.

Smith while "lucky" to the land the punch against Fonfara is a fit fundamentally sound guy who could spring another upset if Hopkins has slipped another level after the beating he took from Kovalev. Hopkins needs to slow fights down to a waltz with holding and grabbing and jabbing and prolonged feigning with some yapping thrown in to get to guys heads. Smith just needs to out work Hopkins and he can spring another upset.

If Smith can win this fight he could get a low 7 figure payday against a Kovalev and will have earned a title shot against Ward or Chicken Stevenson.

On cue Hopkins makes excuses for his loss and claims he was "pushed" out of the ring. Good riddance to this sore loser. The excuses never end with this clown.

Smith landed about 5 hard punches to send Hopkins flying out of the ring. HBO was totally building up Hopkins prior to the fight; they wanted him to win so badly. I think they even had Hopkins as a 2-1 favorite. What a joke. Smith dominated the whole fight. Lederman had him winning all but one round. What a great win for Smith and our side. Hopefully this ends the career of the racist ex-con Bernard Hopkins.

Edit: Hopkins in the locker room still saying he was pushed out of the ring. He had a great carrer, but its time to hang it up.

A perfect ending to the career of A** hole racist Bopkins. LOL He got KTFO of the ring in spectacular fashion. Hi-light reel stuff. Congrats to Joe Smith for doing this. In the dressing room, Bopkins was trying to say he was pushed out of the ring by Smith.LOL . Roy Jones later said that was Bopkins being in denial. LOL

I had to turn the sound down during his long interview with Kellerman. About 5 minutes of whining and excuse making.

Lederman did have Smith winning all but one round but one ringside judge had Hopkins winning at the time of the stoppage. Lucky it ended in KO.

No push there, unless you consider getting punched in the face a push! Great performance by Smith. All in all a good night with Usyk and Povetkin winning in good fashion as well.

Hopkins is forever looking for an angle to get a rematch but it's obvious now he has lost another step as the fight really wasn't competitive when he engaged Smith. Hopkins brought the proverbial knife to a gun fight and it looks like his chin is fading too. Unless he is willing to go down the Roy Jones route and is willing to embarrass his legacy this should be the last we see of Hopkins....

Nice to see the old racist bastard Hopkins knocked out by a white man. I wonder why Kovalev couldn't do it and Smith could. Could Smith have more power than Kovalev? That may be the case but he is certainly a level or two below him in boxing skills. Hopkins saying he was pushed out shows just how egotistical this racist pig is. I will give the old negro one thing. The fact that he is competitive with top fighters at his age is amazing. He has to be taking something.

Wow. Nice send-off for Bernard "The Executed" Hopkins. Good job good ol' Joe Smith. He brought his lunch pail and got the job done.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out Mr. Be-Hop.

He sure did bring his lunch pail and turn in a workmanlike performance despite being limited athletically. In reality Smith is a hard puncher who knows how to set up his straight right knockout punch, goes to the body effectively, is in great shape and also has a good chin. How great is it that we actually have a white, Irish-AMERICAN champion? And the guy is even a fireman for God's sake. Talk about real working class.

What a low life, yelling I done got pushed over and over - and all those officials gathered around him listening with serious looks on their faces conferring with each other - you can see the one with the beard in CM's clip above - probably asking if he can call it a win for the negro or no contest - and then the UK announcers actually said it might be a no contest - yes I heard them say that! - and I knew the fix was going to be in unless Smith KO'd the bum - the UK announcers were saying that the negro had won most of the rounds even rounds that he obviously didn't - and then they didn't show the replay right away - so I was actually afraid they'd declare the negro the winner or call it a no contest. I expect the worst from boxing officials and I'm rarely disappointed.

If you look closely at a replay Hopkins might have been concussed when his head hit the ground because he was clearly punched out the ring. With a punch it's a tko win for Smith.

Hopkins has pulled this angle before against Dawson or Pascal and got a no contest when he wrenched his shoulder, but in that case both fighters fell to the floor in a heap. You're doomsday scenario probably would have happened if Smith missed and fell into Hopkins and Hopkins would have gotten a Smith rematch (if HBO was willing to foot the bill).

This may not be a very popular post, but Hopkins favors his own kind as much as we favor ours so I don't really care to dislike him for some things he said publicly years ago. Since then he has had nothing but praise for Kovalev, to whom he lost, and has heaped praise on Lomachenko, and other white fighters. He has co-promoted white fighters while genuinely seeking their victories (such as middleweight Lemieux). He has stayed out of trouble and managed his finances well. In the ring Hopkins was a VERY skilled fighter with a wide range of craft. The old timers used to say "let sleeping dogs lay"; I think that's best here.

Counterpoint. Fair enough. To be honest I never had any interest in him and paid him no attention. I wasn't impressed by what I saw last night though that's for sure.
