Martinek was 20 for 109 5.4 avg against Norfolk State last night.

Game wasn't televised but radio said OL wasn't good and could be a long season for RU backs.

NFLDraftscout moved him down to #46 a couple weeks ago.

I was glad to see him go over the century mark. Good start to the season. I'm hoping he can stay healthy and help lead Rutgers to another great season. He is fun to watch!

I think Joe Martinek has the potential to have a season like Gerhart did last year if the coach increases his carries from last season. What I have noticed is that he is much, much better in the second half of games, so his ypc would increase significantly if he got more carries. I recently read an article that said something along the lines that Martinek has proved he is an every down back with last week's performance, so hopefully he won't have to split that many carries. I am really looking forward to this kid playing this year.

dwid, it's good to see you posting again man. Seems like its been awhile.

Those are some great highlights from Jersey Joe. Luckily, Rutgers is a local school and all of their games are on my cable package. I try to watch him play whenever I am around.

Welcome back dwid and props on another excellent video Martinek, who I believe is this year's Jacob Hester/Toby Gerhart (the college white RB making the biggest impact)!

I think they might have the rutgers games on espn new york because they have the boston college games on espn boston. My only worry is that the o-line will not block well enough.

I love the way he runs. He has good speed and excellent vision. He also is very shifty and can cut very quickly. Maritinek is going to have a big year.

Thanks, good to be back. I hope I didn't jinx Martinek, he injured his ankle in last week's game. I don't think its too serious so hopefully he will be back soon. Luckily they don't have a game this week. The dwfs couldn't be happier for his injury, they want the affletes with all of the "upside" to get a chance to run the ball. The offensive line is playing horrible so it will be hard for Joe to overcome that, but hes good at bouncing things to the outside when no hole is there, just hope he is healthy soon.

Rutgers' play calling has been anything but creative either. Schiano didn't seem to trust Savage to throw the ball much. Most plays that Martinek was out there- in the pro style offense- he ran on first down, then second down they mixed it up a bit, and if they threw- normally after an in completion- it would be a throw on third and long. Hopefully they'll get Joe out there in the wildcat formation more- and Sanu will keep the D honest by throwing a bit more- or handing off to Joe some- instead of him taking off himself and running NEARLY EVERY time. The FIU D didn't respect the pass and started stacking the line against Joe and Rutger's run blocking is pretty bad. Still though, Joe's got to step his game up more to become an elite player if he even wants a sniff of the National Quotas League.

Just heard the inevitable, JM was moved to FB. Playing injured last season probably didn't help his cause. True freshmen from SPP will take over at RB. Joe is more of a powerback anyway, so hopefully this won't kill his chances to play on Sundays.

The rutgers offense was a joke last season :
black QB in, wildcat run.
White qb in, drop back to pass.

Literally that predictable. Literally. Unbelievable imo.

I hate to hear this news. Joe would have been a really good runner, if given a shot. I figured Schiano would screw him just like he did Brian Leonard.

Joe a powerback? He showed incredible shiftiness when healthy and is only 215. I wouldn't call him a powerback, just simply a north/south runner that has the speed to get to the edge as well, not really a guy to plow over somebody though. He does have enormous thighs and good at getting yards after contact, but thats not the majority of what made him a successful runner. I never really saw any decent holes for him to run through on his tape. Looking at Brian Leonard's footage, as well as Martinek, you would think they neither of them have any vision, but the only consistency I see is a bad oline scheme. Leonard seemed fine with finding the hole in the NFL (when there actually was one ). I could be wrong about it though, I know the head coach is the same guy that was there when Brian was playing, not sure about the oline coach. It does seem the coaches at Rutgers don't know how to cater the offense to suit his skillset. No other back was really impressive last season. Martinek is a guy that gets better as the game goes along, if you look at the stats, most of his big runs came in the 2nd half, while he would grind it out in the 1st half. If he was healthy hes somebody you could build an offense around, but I guess they would rather suck.

Oh absolutely they would. That is the MO of the caste system. They rather have the ship go down while flying the diversity flag (read anti-White) than give White men a fair shake. That is one of the hardest things to get DWFs to realize (among many). The best players don't always play, it isn't all about winning/money, and the NFL is far from being a meritocracy.

What a joke. I wonder if Brian Leonard is calling Joe and telling him how lucky he is to be able to be such an unselfish team player for Schiano.

Joe should transfer. Screw Rutgers go play over at Delaware or Nova and show Rutgers what they missed out on.

It would be nice to see some of these FBS caste victims speak up/stand up instead of playing the team player bit every time. Transferring might be a good thing, or it could be an even faster way to flush one's self down the caste memory hole. I'd like to see Joe run the ball, but he's likely to be screwed by the NFL no matter where he plays in college.

Sadly you're probably right. But Joe is too damn good to be used as an undersized battering ram!! I'd rather see him tote the rock in college(even if it is a smaller school)and show what he can do than to be stuck at caste paradise Rutgers as a FB... Schiano has no intentions of helping Joe reach the pros. I hope their is an offensive coordinator\head coach out there thatwill take a chance on a former 1,000 yard rusher from the Big East.

*Correction Martinek only had 967 yards and 9tds.

He barely has the frame to play fullback at a major conference d1 school. This doesn't look good for him if he wants to play on Sundays. Like other posters have stated he would be better off transferring to a MAC, Conference USA, WAC school if he could be a starter for them. There is virtually no way he would even be considered for fullback in the NFL as the league hasn't had 220 pound fullbacks since the early 80's.

I agree Joe isn't a prototypical powerback or big enough as an NFL FB, but with the new OC from Pitt, the FB is used more as a receiver and gets occasional touches. If scouts see his earlier film and see he can block and catch in this role, he may have a shot if he gets in the 220 range. Teams are always looking for versitility.

If he has the same attitude as you he's screwed. Come on man he clearly has the ability to be a starting runningback in the FBS.

Nowhere did I say he doesn't have the ability. My point was that maybe he can make the best out of a sh*tty situation by dominating in the role he's being forced to play. Bailing out and transferring to a FCS school that gets less exposure then Rutgers is just not the answer. Making the most of every carry and reception and making it to the NFL combine and kicking some ass there is how he should deal with this. Trust me, I'm on your side. He's definately getting screwed, if he had more eligibility left, I agree he should move on. But not in this case.

You'd certainly hope so, but it didn't do Leonard a whole lot of good. Admittedly he'll probably stand a better chance of being drafted staying at Rutgers, but at what cost?

Proving them wrong is the best way to change the way things are. I just don't think HOPING for a better situation in a FCS school will give him the opportunity to do this.

In some cases, either route can be a no-win situation. Joe has been screwed and only a miracle will allow him to get more than a few carries in the NFL.
