Jeff had a 6 yard rush for a TD, and 4 catches for 46 yards. John Carlson had 5 catches for 63 yards. Chase Anastasio had a nice 15 yard catch. Quinn was 29 of 38 for 318 yards and 2 TDs.

Why does Quinn always throw to Mcnight? He does not have nearly the hands the Shark does. I guess Mcknight is benefitting from Maurice Stovall syndrome...opposing teams double team the Shark who is the best WR so Mcknight gets alot more looks.

Indeed Leanardfan you're completely correct...Shark is double teamed(i've even seen him triple teamed on occasions.... thats why his stats are taking a hit...The Suprise package of the year though is John Carlson...This guy is a better athletethan Fasano.Theres not too many Tight Ends better than him in College Football at the moment.

John Carlson has a good chance of winning the Mackey Award(best TE in the nation award). Nwo who the hell saw that one coming. What a pleasant surprise. Looks like Greg Olsen and Zach Miller now have competition for best TE.

The current Sports Illustrated (dated 10/23/06) has a worshipful article on Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson -- "the nation's best receiver without question," "a remarkable blend of size, speed and athleticism," "a once-in-a-generation receiver," blah blah blah.


Samardzija has been far more productivethan Johnsonand is also a remarkable package of size and athleticism, but what's very worrisome about this article is the sidebar article it contains on "six other elite pass catchers who look good enough to play on Sunday." Guess who isn't included? That's right, The Shark.


Anthony Gonzalez is one of the six mentioned. They must consider him to be "hispanic" given Samardzija's omission. Is this the beginning of the marginalization of JS by the Caste System?

I sure hope not! Jeff is unreal to watch at his position, much like Matt Jones was when running with the ball at Arkansas. His size makes his speed deceptive and if he is snubbed, it would be a crime against the pro game. Based on the info in the other article on him by Mel Kiper though, it looks as if they are trying to find any excuse not to draft him early, such as his flirtation with baseball. What a joke!

An immense talent, but I would not put him on the level of Matt Jones in terms of raw athleticism. He may be a better receiver on the whole but he doesnt have the horsepower of a Jones. As for why Quinn doesnt throw to Shark, probably because defenses decide before the game that they are going to do what it takes to reduce his threat. Quinn adapts and throws away from Shark. Similar story at OSU where Ginn is just as effective for the offense by drawing the defense to cover him well and that opens up space for Gonzalez.Edited by: bigman

why do you expect him to get treated any better than Mike Hass? he was clearly the best receiver in the country last year. and look where he's at now.

... seriously though, Jeff has serious speed and size, so they can't say he's too small/slow etc. what happened in Hass' case.

they can say it, have said it, and likely they will again. Hass wasn't too small or too slow, either, being both taller than the average NFL receiver at 6'1" (still he was said to be too short) and of average speed at 4.57-4.59 (despite this average speed he was labelled tortoisely slow) according to the official postings from the NFL combines.

these idiots will say anything, regardless of how ridiculous, in order to perpetuate the system. they've already done the unthinkable! (Staley, Kretschmer, Forsey, Hass, Farmer, Bergeron, Heaney, Kasper, Pyatt, Danielsen, etc.) what would stop them from doing it again?

Yes they will! Its a sad fact, but if Matt Jones can be used as an example, Jeff should be highly drafted, but the draft gods may think it should be another 25 years or so before another white WR is drafted in the first round. All they are doing is robbing the NFL of some quality(and I mean quality people and athletes) players and also losing out on an unreal untapped marketing gold mine.

With his size and playing for such a prominent and popular school, Samardzija will be much harder for the NFL to ignore than was Mike Hass.The two things I can see bringing down his draft status in a significant way are if he says he's going to play baseball full-time and football part-time, and if he doesn't run a sub-4.6 at the Combine. Something in the 4.6 or 4.7 range would be acceptable, even lauded, for a black receiver of Jeff's height but a white one will be universally denounced as too slow for the NFL.
