I hope Furr demands a chance at RB! Even if it is an uphill battle; I believe he can battle his way into playing time at least in a dual threat backfield at N. Carolina. Butch Davis is a caste whore, but Furr is an elite talent. Don't just settle into playing Safety Hunter if you like RB better!

Hunter ran a PB of 6.96 in the 60m at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships last weekend. He still has the state championships coming up in a few weeks.

For the record, here are his PBs:
55m: 6.39
60m: 6.96
100m: 10.46
200M: 21.21
LJ: 21'5.5
(And a 40 that's in the high 4.2/low 4.3 range)

He'll be the fastest linebacker/fullback in football history.

Yeah, Furr is even faster than Devin Hester. Hester ran a WIND-AIDED 10.43 PB in COLLEGE.

Hopefully the Tar Heel RBs will continue to stink, so Davis will be forced to give Hunter his rightful shot.

Also of interest: McGuffie: 6.82 PB 60 mtr./10.8 100 mtr.
Furr: 6.96 PB 60 mtr./ 10.46 100 mtr.

Hunter Furr won the 100m at the Taco Bell Classic today - a HS all star meet for the top guys in the South.
This guy has real speed.

This guy has real speed.

At the same meet, he also finished 3rd in the 200m.
His times were 10.75 and 21.64.
Hunter has acknowledged packing on more weight this Spring (to prepare for his new role as blocker for Butch Davis
smiley11.gif
), so his times aren't likely to improve over his PBs.
Still, at his size, there aren't many runningbacks in the country who can run as fast.

Hunter won the 100 and 200 in the Forsyth County Championships this weekend. His times were 10.69 and 21.67. Here is a recent photo of him embarrassing his "superiors".

Damn and I thought that was an old picture of me.

I'm glad to see him winning but why the hell would he put on weight. Screw the damn Caste System. This kid should be a starting Div.IA Running Back period!

Honestly, Hunter looks like he's put on a little too much weight in that photo for his frame. I am still hoping that Hunter smartens up and will send his game film to Colorado State to try to get an offer. They won't waste one of the fastest kids in the country who was a very productive H.S tailback as a blocker.

Two more victories for Hunter.
He won the 100 and 200 at the Milestat.com Track Classic last weekend. His times were 10.77 and 22.09. Not great, but it's hard to run elite times when you're bulking up. He'll have to find some way to improve his times if he wants to win state, though.

Ya usually athletes with improve about .3 seconds throughout the course of the year. His PR is around 10.4 so he is on pace to be close. Extremely fast for a football player, like Jake Sharp or John Riggins caliber speed.

Another two victories for Hunter. This time at the CPC Championships (whatever that is).
He ran a 10.7 to win the 100M. And he ran a season best 21.54 to win the 200M.

It's a dead period for high school football news, so here's some more Hunter news.

Hunter won the 100m and 200m at the North Carolina 4A Midwest regional championships last weekend.
His times were 10.62 and 21.69.

Thanks Riddlewire keep us posted! I want to see Furr win states!!
Unless Hunter has been sandbagging in the 100 all season, I don't think he has a chance to win the State 4A title. Other runners have already bested his season best time. He has a much better chance in the 200, where his season times are among the best. The 4A State championships are this weekend.

He did it.
Hunter won the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m at the NC State Track Championships today.
His times were 10.65, 21.37, and 41.33. And this is despite putting on 15 extra pounds since football ended.
Unfortunately, it won't end there. Uncle Butch wants him up to 235lbs by Fall, which will put an end to his college track career before it ever gets started.

No. Anybody with mid 10 second speed in the 100 meter who weighs 215 lbs. already should not bulk up. That is already a deadyly speed and size combination. In fact, if he ever got down to sprinting weight (180-185) he could be in the low 10s. 10.65 is almost Devin Hester or Percy Harvin speed. Almost Jake Sharp speed too. He should definitely keep it.

Hunter ran a new season best of 10.49 to finish third in the 100m at the Atlanta International Prep Classic yesterday. At his height and weight, that's astounding. I can't find results yet of the first and second place winners, but I think it's safe to say that Hunter probably outweighed the field by at least 20lbs per man.
C'mon, Butch, don't be an idiot. Put this kid in the backfield.

He reminds me of Dusty Stamer. The kid who went to Nebraska and was the fastest guy on the team. All he wanted to do was play running back. Despite amazing moves, size and speed to die for, they told him he wasn't needed. He went and eventually joined the Nebraska Track Team and had a nice career. I think he topped out around 10.21 or so. Stamer would have been a stud running back. Who's to say that he couldn't have made a run at the Heisman. The Caste System sucks so bad.

In my opinion, if Hunter Furr should demand a chance at running back. Do not take no for an answer. If they still refuse, leave the school or just run track. I wish he would have not put on so much weight. I know it's for football but he would have probably been running in the 10.30's this season if not for too much bulk. Muscle is good unless you over do it. It is just too much weight to carry down the track. What an incredible athlete. I sure hope he still runs track along with football. It's hard to do both plus school work in college but this kid is a freak. Too talented to just give it up.

Ya, I'm with you WL. Maybe even WR so hhe can bulk dowwn and run track too. He could be such a good sprinter. I don't want to steal him from football, but why play a sport that just stabs you in the back so often?

Your link isn't working jacknyc. No problem. I will put the article about Hunter with a new link. He says if not for football, he would sprint at around 180 lbs. N.Car. wants him to weigh 235 lbs. so he can block. What a complete waste of talent. It's a crime if you ask me. He should have told them to go f*** themselves. Here is the link.

The situation is even more ridiculous than we're giving it credit for.
The top sprinter on UNC's track team has a PB of 10.45 in the 100m. Hunter's best time? 10.46, when he was a Junior. He's already run a 10.49 this year at 220lbs+. He would be the track teams's best sprinter the day he stepped on campus if he would drop the "Butch Davis penalty weight". As much as he's advanced with his running, I suspect he could reach 10.1 if he devoted himself to track.
Also, if Butch's runningbacks are so fast that they get the nod over Hunter, then why aren't they running for the UNC track team as well?

Well, that's because they have shifty hips, jaw-dropping explosiveness, room-brightening smiles, upside, open field speed, super human vision, and, and , and...

It's very obvious why he isn't at HB. Nobody could catch him. His stats are the most freakish I have seen at his size, and even on their own. If he were 5'7" I'd still want him to play RB for me. He is so fast.

Found a good interview where Hunter reiterates he is "bulking up" even though he already weighs 215 lbs. To bad the interviewer didn't beg the question to why the hell 215 lbs isn't already big enough for a RB and 100 meter stud of 6 foot 1 tall.

2008 Nike Outdoor 100m Dash Video - won by Hunter Furr

Interview with Hunter Furr
By Ben Hovis / March 25, 2009 6:02 PM

Q. Hunter, the first question I have to ask is how did it feel winning the 100m National title last year in Greensboro?
A. Total elation! It was one of the most exciting moments in my life. It was especially exciting to win the National title in front of the home crowd in Greensboro, NC. Finally, it was an honor just to compete against National caliber sprinters.

Q. I know football is a big part of your life, but did winning at Nike Outdoors open any new doors for you?
A. You are correct football is my sport. I began running track to prepare myself for football. After I won the Nike Outdoor Nationals, a number of college coaches from big time programs approached me about running track in college. I may run track at UNC, but I think of myself as a Tarheel football player.

Q. What are the big meets you are most looking forward to this outdoor season?
A. Definitely Taco Bell, there is always some great competition there, Penn Relays, and of course the regionals and the state meet. I hope to run in some of the post high school season meets like Nike Outdoors and Golden West.

Q. Is there any one particular athlete in North Carolina who you really look forward to racing?
A. The two guys I can't wait to race are Torrance Hunt and Fuquan Greene because they beat me indoors when I was out of shape, and I always do better in the 100 than the 55.

Q. You've been on the North Carolina scene for quite some time now, at Forsyth Country Day and now at Mount Tabor, what has been your favorite moment during your track career?
A. Winning the Nike Nationals was fun, but I'm going to have to say my 10th grade year winning the 100, 200, 4x100 and running down a kid in the 4x200 to win 4 state championships in the NCISAA division.

Q. What are your plans for the future? Football, track, or both?
A. I am totally committed to being the best football player I can be at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I hope to run track there also. I recognize that at some point my weight may become an issue for running track. Right now, I am weighing about 215 lbs., and I expect to gain more weight at Chapel Hill.

Q. After winning the 100m title last year at Nike Outdoors, what are your goals this season? How fast do you want to go?
A. I want to get the 4A NCHSAA 100m title and then of course defend my Nike title in the 100. I think if everything falls into place I can break 10.3 in the 100. Fuquan is going to go sub twenty one so I'm going to try to run with him in the 200. I'm looking forward to pushing each other to fast times.

Q. You've run indoors and outdoors at many distance, and even long jumped some . . . what is your favorite event to compete in?
A. The 100 is definitely my favorite event. I think it is my signature event, the small guys normally get out on me out of the blocks, so I've been working on my start everyday. If I can get out with those quick guys it's over.

Q. Ok, the ink? Does the ink have a special meaning to you?
A. My tattoo is a cross with wings with my parent's names around it. It represents my faith and family.

Q. Is there anything that people should know about you that most probably don't?
A. Well most people know I run a 10.4 100m dash but I do it weighing 215 pounds and power clean 350 pounds, bench press 350 pounds and I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Q. As an athlete, who has been your biggest inspiration?
A. My dad has always bought workout equipment, hired the best coaches for me and even trained me on his own.

Great interview Hunter. Good luck at the Taco Bell. See you at State and hopefully before then for some work.

My take: This kid will never get carries- if 215 lbs at 6'1 isn't big enough. I'd say 200-230 lbs would be an ideal weight for an ACC RB at that height- so Hunter should play on the lower end of that range, since he wants to run track and speed is his game even more than power.

Hunter is a one or two cut and accelerate (cut-back/north-south type RB) RB. There are plenty of RBs in the FBS with the same style as Hunter, but VERY few "if any"- with that style- have his speed. Hunter can make the first guy miss pretty well while he accelerates after getting the hand off. He slides and when the hole opens up he bursts through "like a bat out of hell". He can break arm tackles while barreling through the hole as well. With Hunter's 4.32 40 time and 10.4x 100 mtr speed- when he sees a crack he can be gone. No one will catch him when he sees daylight in the second level and he can be used for end arounds as well.

Hunter should start for NC as a true freshman in a fair world- with a backup scatback behind him- because no RB was impressive at all for NC last year. Hopefully Butch(er) "the white athlete" Davis will quit coaching if NC stinks next year. Hunter is a fool for ruining his track and football career to play for CERTAINLY a top 5 caste a$$hole coach- in all of the FBS.
