OK. As mentioned, there was a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the boys 400m - How exciting was that?! I wonder if this is the Jeremy Wariner effect? Perhaps they were inspired by him as little kids...
Here are the results:
1/ Frank Kurtz 12 Heritage 47.35 (US #3)
2/ Taylor McLaughlin 11 Union Cath (NJ) 47.49 (US #5)
3/ Michael Bluth 11 Riverton (UT) 47.70 (US #12)
4/ Clay Lambourne 12 Riverton (Ut) 47.90 (US #20)
Frank Kurtz ran the 3rd fastest time in the country. Next yr he'll be at Stanford.
Notice that 3rd and 4th place attend the same high school - amazing!
In the women's 400m, as also mentioned in another post, Madeline Price ran the 2nd fastest time in the country - 53.43 - and also took 2nd in the 200m, 24.52 (US #27). Meanwhile Melissa Mongiovi ran 55.86 for 3rd place, and Tara Radan ran 56.45 to win the 'B' race.
And in the 200m 'B' race, Hannah Waller took 2nd in 24.81
Most exciting for me was Curtis Godin winning the 100m in the 3rd fastest time in the country - 10.36. Behind him in 4th place was running back Sean McGrew! He ran 10.69 and is only a sophomore.
Curtis was 2nd in the 200m in 21.03, also the 3rd fastest time in the country. Behind him in 3rd place was Robert Grant, 21.51.
Robert is primarily a hurdler and he won the 300m hurdles in 36.47 - US#1, fastest time in the country! Cam Dopp won the B race in 37.84.
Maybe the biggest superstar of the meet was Tiana Bonds. She won the girls 300m in 41.34 (US #4). Hannah Labrie-Smith was 2nd in 42.24 (US #9). She also won the girls 100m hurdles 13.65 (US #3), and took 2nd in the pentathlon. Talk about athletic!
These are just some of the highlights. There were other boys and girls who did well although they didn't 'medal'. I know there was some great distance running too, but I don't follow that much. Somebody else might want to comment on that.
I didn't look into the jumps, but did notice that Joey Souza took 2nd in the boys long jump, 24' 10".
Overall, it was a great, great meet. There were white kids in nearly all the sprint and hurdle races, and doing well. I think it's all about participation. If not pushed into other events or other sports, white kids can do well given the chance. This meet really showed that.
