I know some of you guys don't consider him white b/c he probably has a little Amero-Indian blood in him (or is it Hawaiian?). I don't see why not. He's mostly white and isn't a beneficiary of the caste system like part blacks or the darker Polynesians are.

I think he's best suited to be a #2 WR for the Rams and I'd say he is destined to become a good one. He was a VERY productive college player. I know the Hawaii offense always inflates their WRs stats, but Salas is the best WR from there since Devone Bess. I actually think he'll be more of an impact player than Bess (of course in a different way). If Salas becomes the #2 Flanker of the future for the Rams it will give Amendola (who's a lot like the aforementioned Bess) a chance to find space working in the slot where he is best suited. An interesting pick by the Rams.

i agree. great pick for the Rams and Bradford. Sam can gun it with accuracy and all he needs is some sure-handed WR's to catch the ball for first downs. i'm excited for the future of Sam, Danny and Greg.

Its Indian blood I believe, he was born in Chino, CA, huge hispanic population. I don't know if he benefited from things or not, he jumped up the boards that guy the draft "experts" have. Looking at his tape I don't think he is better than Maehl but a little better than Sanzenbacher. I am just doubting his race because McDaniels picked him, and hes not a friend of white players it seems.

Everyone seems to think he is destined for the slot (time will tell) but they drafted the other guy Austin Pettis as well, who might project better in the slot, plus Kendricks at tight end.

I have heard that McDaniels is ditching the more slot receiver heavy formations and going back to tight end heavy formation spread type offenses that he ran at New England, so if they are planning to use tight end heavy sets, 2 drafted guys that might be going to the slot, where does that leave Amendola?

Either way you slice it, whether these guys project on the outside or the slot, it doesn't look good for Amendola with 2 receivers drafted, a 2nd round te that is good at pass catching, a blocking te on the team that isn't bad at receiving, not to mention Gilyard who they haven't given up on and Gibson who had over 50 catches last year

My guess is Amendola has a good chance of winding up like Hillis. Sure he didn't have a high yard per catch last year, but if they had someone to stretch the field he would have had more room to get yards after the catch, he caught everything thrown close to him while Gibson had a low catch percentage compared to Amendola, he caught a little over 50 percent of his targets, and averaged 11 yards per catch which is pretty low for that kind of catch rate, Amendola caught closet to 70 percent of his targets.

For most teams I am staying optimistic for our white players, but the team coached by McDaniels is the one I just can't be optimistic about.

If this is what you guys consider a "white man,"Â￾ count me out.

After seeing Salas play on a few occasions, I'll admit that he has talent. He even broke the Hawaii single season receiving record in 2010, which is certainly praiseworthy given Hawaii's history of record-setting QBs (Chang, Brennen, etc) and a pass-intensive offense. Given the level of competition he faced in college, coupled with his somewhat sub-par 40-time (4.53), Salas being a 4th round draft pick made perfect sense. Given his draft selection, I doubt he's been evaluated as "white"Â￾ by anyone.Edited by: Thrashen

Is that really a picture of him there in the front? He doesn't look too white in that one, but I've google imaged pictures of him several times and he looked white in the pics I looked at.

snow, I agree with you on the WR rankings: I'm not sure who's better between Maehl and Salas as a prospect it's very close, but Salas is a little better than Sanzenbacher and Whalen IMO.

The top 3 white WRs this draft were Salas, Durham and Maehl. Also, from what I've read, I'm guessing Tyler Beiler should have been a day three small school sleeper up there with Cecil Shorts.

BTW, McDaniels is the offensive coordinator I believe, not the HC. McDaniels also was part of the team that drafted Decker and Tebow. I agree with that. McDaniels was just being the typical football coach by not playing Hillis. When there hadn't been a White featured back in a quarter century and with that rule seemingly ironclad, McDaniels wasn't about to be the first one to break it. Mangini is the one who deserves credit for playing Hillis (after Hardesy went down for the season and Harrison clearly wasn't feature back material).

Salas is a last name of Portugese/Spanish origin. He looks like white hispanic if not a white with some Indian background.

I'd agree with that. I'd compare Amendola to Davone Bess. In other words, a poor man's Welker (Welker's more of a beast after the catch and is like a RB playing WR). Amendola is a nice, valuable player to have on your offense if you're a coach to move the chains.

Salas has big day before injury: Rams rookie WR Greg Salas was having a great day in Week 9 versus the Cardinals, but was injured late in the fourth quarter. He was targeted nine times by Sam Bradford, catching seven passes for 59 yards. The Arizona defender landed on Salas' leg and had to be carted off the field with his leg in an air cast. He was cheering his teammates on as the headed to the locker room. The initial word after the game is that Salas has a broken fibula and is likely done for the year.
