Good Music Videos

I remember when the Stone Temple Pilots came on the scene some 30 years ago and thinking the lead singer was an alpha man. Next thing I knew he was wearing dresses and eventually died of a drug overdose. But can't take away that this is a good song.

Avenged Sevenfold is an American metal band that I listen to heavily from around 2005 to maybe 2015 or so. Recently I remembered how much I enjoy their music and started putting them in heavy rotation again. Did a search and I don’t think a single song of theirs was shared in a thread of 69 pages. Gotta change that.

Most of their stuff is much heavier but I’ll start with a song that might have wider appeal here. So Far Away was apparently first written by the lead guitarist for his grandfather who passed. However while the band was recording their 5th studio album Nightmare, on which the song would appear, their drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan would die of drug and alcohol overdose. The song, which is about love and loss, is great musically with some soaring guitar work. The music video is a touching look back to a group of White teenage friends growing up in Orange County, Southern California. Does that even exist anymore….

Here’s one more from A7X that is a more encapsulating example of their style and sound (at least from their first decade of works). The Beast and the Harlot is basically the Book of Revelation Chapter 17 the song. The music video really weaves together story of Babylon and makes the comparison to modern day Hollywood. The song comes from the bands 3rd album, City of Evil (2005), that many fans would argue is their best. The drum and guitar work on the entire album is really incredible and some of my favorite in the metal genre.
