Yes, this is a great song, McKennitt is a great singer and this is a great performance. I just posted the studio version of this song on another site the other day.

McKennitt writes songs based on Celtic and British history and mythology. One gets the image of kings and castles and knights riding through the foggy moors. If you look at the video Don posted you will see some odd looking instruments. These are instruments that were used in the middle ages in the British Isles.

Here's a studio version of The Mummer's Dance.

 
I like the traditional instruments in the composition.

I'm mostly of of Celtic-Germanic descent and really appreciate this music. I like a wide variety of music and sometimes post some off the wall videos, but this is the music that really speaks to me.

The music video thread is one of the things I'll miss about Caste Football.

I may have posted this video before - The Kinks - Living on a Thin Line - Feel it's an appropriate video to post with the site going dark soon. Great song and lyrics that are totally applicable to what is going on across the West today. Ironically I discovered this song via The Sopranos.

Another thing that's really neat about that live performance and others by Loreena I've noticed on YouTube is the venue. Don't know what it is but it's perfect for the music.

Just checking now on Wikipedia, she's surprisingly Canadian, born in Manitoba with Irish and Scottish descent. I figured her to be Irish or Scotch-Irish born and bred. Her voice is angelic.

I've been delving into the artistic history of white people and discovered another white artist - blues singer Marion Harris. The blues came from the British Isles, blacks did not invent it. An early blues song is Greensleeves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greensleeves

This is for the Viet Nam vets. I have much respect for all veterans. My father was in WW2, my oldest brother in Nam in 66 & 67, my middle brother in 68 & 69 and I was there in 71 & 72. We all ask this question, what is going on?
