Golovkin targets Sturm after KO of Simon

WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin won impressively by first round KO against Lajuan Simon to defend his title for the third time and also captured the vacant IBO belt in the process Friday night in in Düsseldorf, Germany. “It was a short but interesting fight. I am so happy that I won and want to thank my entire team. I want to fight Felix Sturm now and I know it will be the same result. I have shown the boxing fans that I am the true middleweight champion of the world,” said Golovkin.

“I couldn’t see the shot and I got caught with a big punch. I am feeling OK now,” Lajuan stated after the fight and his first career knockout loss.

Tom Loeffler, Managing Director of K2 Promotions added, “We are very happy to have a new double world champion signed with K2. Against Simon he has shown why he is now called ‘Sturm Killer’. It was a devastating knockout and it showed why Gennady is the most dangerous middleweight in the world.”

Likely a win for Golovkin.

Impressive. He's an Asiatic-White mixture I think. Many Khazaks are.

His name "Golovkin" is a Russian surname and he's a Christian.

He used to attend the same church in Las Vegas as his friend Sam Peter. I noticed he worked Sam's corner for Peter-Wlad II.

He appears to be 3/4 white and about 1/4 Kazakh.

He was born in Karaganda. In the 1930s up to 70% of the city's inhabitants were ethnic Germans, but they were killed or sent to Siberian labor camps by the Bolsheviks.

Tremendous performance from Gennadiy Golovkin! LaJuan Simon is a tough, gritty black American GateKeeper/Top12ish type opponent who had never been KO'd despite having fought some good names and challenged for a world title.

Very, very impressive stuff from Golovkin. The big names at Middleweight (Sturm, Pirog, Martinez) have been avoiding or not mentioning him, but with this performance he is knocking on the door. Golovkin has an expert technical and defensive style which he combines with phenomenal punching power and ring intelligence. His speed looks good as well.

Im a huge Felix Sturm fan, but I dont like Felix's chances VS Golovkin, and Golovkin probably wins that fight by stoppage. Sturm has great boxing skills but I seriously doubt his ability to keep Golovkin at bay and not land his powershots. Sturm also seems to be slipping in his last few fights.

Id say Golovkin TKOMidRounds Sturm.

Having said that, Id much rather see Golovkin fight the Black "Frenchman" Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. This African boxer has been parading around as WBA "Interim" champion, fighting very limited opposition in France and passing them off as "title defenses".

N'Jikam has decent skills, but hes basically a worse version of Sturm. Ie) Limited power, doesnt like to engage or fight, uses jab and moves.

Golovkin would CERTAINLY knock out N'Jikam and Id much rather see Golovkin KO N'Jikam then fight Sturm or Pirog next.

Golovkin is 30 years old and in the last 2 years has only had 3 fights (due to a contract dispute with Universum), so it'd be nice if he becomes more active!

Golovkin is promoted by K2Ukraine, Klitschko brothers promo group so Im rooting for him also as a fan of Klitschko brothers and K2!

Karagandy (Kazakh: Қарағанды / Qarağandı), more commonly known by its Russian name Karaganda, (Russian: Караганда, until 1993), is the capital of Karagandy Province in Kazakhstan. It is the fourth most populous city in Kazakhstan, behind Almaty (Alma-Ata), Astana and Shymkent, with a population of 471,800 (as of 1 January 2010).[SUP][1][/SUP] In the 1940s up to 70% of the city's inhabitants were ethnic Germans. Most of the ethnic Germans are descendants of Soviet Volga Germans who were collectively deported to Siberia and Kazakhstan on Stalin's order when Hitler invaded Poland. Until the 1950s, many were interned in labor camps, often only due to their heritage. The population of Karaganda fell by 14% from 1989-1999; it was once Kazakhstan's second largest city after Almaty. One hundred thousand people have since emigrated to Germany. There is also a smaller concentration of ethnic Poles.

The massive and brutal ethnic cleansing of enormous numbers of Germanic people who had been living in the east for centuries by the victorious Allies. Millions died. They forgot to build a museum for them on the Washington mall, and Stanley Spielberg forgot to make any docudramas about them, and they forgot o teach any holocaust classes about this in their schools - because this was a real Holocaust!

The Central Ural Mountains were used as the Soviet Unions' bad lands by Stalin. He used to deport various minorities to these central areas if there were ethnic uprisings against Soviet Rule, Tatars were also deported here. Golkin to me looks like something like Tzsyu ie about 3/4ers White 1/4 East Asian. He might be half Russian half Kazakh(who are Eurasians).

Or even if there wasn't. Ethnic Germans were brutally expurgated from all of Russia and eastern Europe, and the eastern third of Germany was simply stolen away.

Him and Pirog want a fight vs Sturm. I think Sturm is on the decline, his belt is there to be taken. I wouldn't be surprised if HBO sent one their fighters (Quillin) to try and collect it.

Looks like Sturm will be fighting Zbik on April 13.

I'd enjoy seeing Golovkin or Pirog KO Quillan.

WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KOs) destroyed Makoto Fuchigami (19-7, 10 KOs) in the third round on Saturday night at the Ice Palace “Terminalâ€￾ in Brovari, Ukraine.

The overmatched Fuchigami was cut by a punch in round one and dropped in round two by a hard Golovkin right hand.

Golovkin really unloaded on Fuchigami in round three, putting him down again and it was waved off shortly after.

I am sure that Sergio Martinez hears Golovkin's footsteps. Gennady appears to be a great fighter. If I was Sergio wait till the winner of the Chavez vs Lee fight. Beat the winner, then hype the fight in Europe with Golovkin.

Golovkin vs Pirog could be a great eliminator. At this point Sturm looks like he has little relevancy in the division.

That was a very dangerous knockout, the way the Japanese fighter's head went over the side. He could have hurt his neck. I hope he's OK.

I actually wish a major North American broadcaster had been the production crew for this fight. I found the South African production quality poor for this era. Throughout the fight the camera angles were slightly obscured and I completely missed the landing of the ko blow. Of course when you looked at the eyes of Ishida you knew what the quality of the power punch was that scrambled his senses.

Why do you say South Africa? The (excellent) referee was South African, but the fight was broadcast from the Principality of Monaco.
