I thought GGG acquitted himself well and that he was robbed again. If the fight had been scored in GGG's home territory it would probably have gone his way instead. He has nothing to be ashamed of; I think he won.
Of course Alvarez stans will think their boy won but then they'll think what they think.
I believe both men did well and it was a good fight. GGG won overall. Bigger shots and was never hurt, whereas Canelo was. From the racial standpoint I think Canelo is actually a White dude moreso than Golovkin, who I also consider to be a White guy. I prefer Golovkin because he seems more culturally White. Mexican fans lump him in the same category as the five foot nothing tubby box shaped peasant class of that country so they have someone to look up to.
So, considering the people Canelo aligns with, I would no sooner be his fan than I would be for an attractive White female celebrity who was a mudshark. GROSS.
Going forward, I wouldn't mind if GGG retired so that he can deny Alvarez the satisfaction of a third fight, and also as a protest against corrupt judging. If he does fight again he'll be even older so who knows what might happen.
For a 36 year old past prime middleweight against another good fighter in his prime, GGG was amazing. Mentally he seems a lot stronger than Kovalev, who also suffered a robbery that denied him the psychological edge of his invincibility, coincidentally (or not) fighting another dirtbag in America.
No wonder he left the ring without talking to the dweebs with the mics. He's probably pissed off. If he rides off into the sunset I'm cool with it. He was champ for a long time and only "lost" because of some bad scoring. Legacy intact.
It would suck if he was forty and a shell of himself and was a stepping stone for smokers and bums.
In the end, I respect Canelo as an athlete. He did a good job tonight. But he still lost.
He is the "champ" in the same way Ward became champ.
Suuuuuure bruh...
Having said all that, I hope Povetkin gives us some good news next weekend. He was a picked opponent so I'm guessing he'll probably lose, but he's a tough guy and I hope he does us proud.
