Detroit Lions,
There is a huge difference between Keyshawn Johnson being supportive of his team drafting a younger version of himself, so that he could "mentor" him, and Furrey asking his team to draft someone to start over him. He certainly wouldn't have been happy if Carolina instantly annointed the rookie a starter and consigned him to a 3rd WR role. That's what Furrey had to know will happen, without question, in Detroit (Johnson will start and he will become the 3rd WR). As for Jake Reed, I'd love to see some evidence that he "lobbied" for the team to draft Randy Moss BEFORE they did. Moss slipped in the draft, and thus it is unlikely that Reed was "lobbying" the team to take him prior to the draft. Most players, black and white, will express support fot the players their team drafts, even when it may adversely effect their playing time. I suspect that Reed's fondness for the 3 WR set the Vikings employed with great success came well after Moss was drafted, and he realized he'd still see a lot of balls coming his way. Find an example of a black player in his prime, coming off the kind of season Furrey had last year, who pushed for his team to draft a rookie would who instantly take away his starting job, BEFORE the NFL draft.
