Freedom of Speech Under Dangerous Attack From Left—We Must Preserve It

https://www.heritage.org/the-consti...der-dangerous-attack-left-we-must-preserve-it

Strange days, indeed, when America’s free press opposes free speech.

"Free speech is killing us," headlined a New York Times op-ed. Its author, New Yorker staff writer Andrew Marantz, argued that “hate speech” leads to violence. Worse, he claims it can cause totalitarianism and even genocide.

To avoid this fate, Marantz says we must rethink the First Amendment, which would include government and private companies striving to limit “hate speech.” He agrees with a former American Civil Liberties Union official that one day in the not-so-distant future, legal “protection of hate speech” will “seem ridiculous in retrospect.”

Some governments have already tried to outlaw “hate speech.” The United Kingdom, for example, criminalizes it. Nevertheless, violent anti-Semitic hate crimes are 13 times more likely to occur there than in the U.S. France also criminalizes anti-Semitic speech. And yet violent anti-Semitic hate crimes are four times more likely to occur in France than in the U.S.

Even Human Rights Watch admits that “a careful review of the experience of many other countries … has made clear that there is little connection in practice between draconian hate speech laws and the lessoning of ethnic and racial violence or tension.”

By asserting that hate speech leads to mass violence, the left hopes to persuade Americans to relinquish their right to free speech. To make that more palatable, they insist that freedom of speech is merely a “value,” instead of a right.

A value is something perishable: today we hold one value, but as the times change, we may hold another one. For instance, nearly all of America valued traditional marriage just 10 years ago, yet today many value same-sex marriage. Values are determined by public opinion—or, perhaps more precisely, by elites who inform, not to say manipulate, it.

Rights, to the contrary, are non-negotiable; they belong to each individual by nature; societies are created for their protection. Speech is an inalienable right because it is the expression of thought, and our minds belong to us by nature. Rights, in other words, should determine the horizon of public opinion, not the other way around.

But, Marantz tells us, freedom of speech is merely a value, and "like all values, it must be held in tension with others, such as equality, safety and robust democratic participation."

Note the other “values” identified here. This is no random wish list. It’s a short, cryptic summary of the genuine aims that many restriction advocates seek to achieve, of which “equality” is the key.

Equality once meant that all human beings have the same rights as all other citizens—like voting rights, property rights, or speech rights. Today, by contrast, many restriction advocates understand equality to mean psychological equality or equal self-respect.

Since the so-called dominant groups in American society already have enough self-respect or “white privilege,” the allegedly oppressed minority groups must be enabled to liberate themselves from oppression, find their identities, and assert their self-respect.

Censorship advocates believe that free speech inhibits their liberation, both preventing these identities from coming into being, and harming them once they do. This is what it means to equate speech with violence.

Society, in the censors’ view, must be devoted to preventing oppressed groups from feelings of contempt—even if such feelings arise from rational, fact-based criticism. Only celebration of these groups can guarantee full inclusion.

But this new speech paradigm is a one-way street: allegedly oppressed groups not only should be able to speak freely and critically about the dominant group; their liberation depends on such antagonistic speech.

As censorship advocate Mari Matsuda has written, “Expressions of hatred, revulsion, and anger directed against historically dominant-group members by subordinate-group members” should not be banned. In fact, “hate speech that comes from an experience of oppression” should be tolerated. Outlawing hate speech, in effect, creates more hate speech—just of the right kind.

Of course we should be civil with our fellow citizens. But taking away fundamental rights from a free people cannot be done without consequences.

Speech criminalization has not worked well in Europe: there, “hate speech” laws not only fail to achieve their explicit goals, but they have helped bring about the rule of petty, bureaucratic tyrants who chill speech, on the one hand, and have ushered in explosive, rebellious politics, on the other.

Why would the Times lend its pages to the cause of suppressing free speech? Perhaps it feels that in a nation where the dominant group rejects its progressive views on topics like immigration, criminality, and the health of the family, the Times would be in a better position to rule public discussions and set society’s tone.

George Soros now buying social media shares

https://www.rt.com/usa/436059-soros-buying-social-media-shares/

Months after denouncing social media as a “menace to society,” controversial billionaire George Soros is again investing into Facebook, Twitter and streaming services Spotify and Pandora, while scaling back his Google holdings.

With hedge funds filing their second-quarter statements with regulators this week, it has emerged that Soros Fund Management LLC is once again investing in Facebook. The fund has also bought shares in Twitter and the two streaming platforms, while selling off some stock in Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. and Amazon.com.

How is Soros still alive? He and everyone associated with that serpent should have been rounded up and taken care of by now. I've used the term "nation wreckers" to refer to a certain group of people here before. In his case it's "world wrecker".

That wicked sociopath signed a deal with the Dickens long, long ago. Hopefully, the wretched SOB will soon be cast into “outer darkness” where he belongs.

Freedom of speech on the internet is the most important thing Donald Trump can do. It is vital. We must the same rights of free speech on the internet as we do in any public place.

Think about the many mini-Soros out there doing the same thing their Idol is doing, except on a smaller scale.

They will (also) receive due recompence...where there is “weeping and gnashing of teeth”.

The Left Censors Because It Must Censor

A great comment from Thomas over at Sailer’s:

It’s truly fascinating how being merely a civic nationalist warrants the left’s “supremacist” label.

I think the problem for the left elite is even more fundamental than that. Have you noticed how unmediated channels of communication on the Web have dried up in the last couple years? The social media bigs (Facebook, Twitter, to a lesser extent, Reddit) have more or less outsourced content control and the right to participate to outfits like the SPLC or algorithms that adopt their criteria. Comment sections a lot of places have disappeared, and even goofball outlets like InfoWars have faced censorship. The left needs to keep people atomized and processing information only through approved channels. Lateral means of uncontrolled and unmediated communication or coordination, like a grass roots fraternal organization, are inherently dangerous, because they can form fertile ground for people to notice things, and to realize that other people notice things too. (Even in the case of something like the Proud Boys, you’ll get shown the door if you discuss certain topics a little too openly.)

The Left censors because if they don’t, dissident thought flourishes, and then dissidents flourish, emboldened by the knowledge that they aren’t alone. The awakening is wildfire, not isolated embers.

The Left occupies minds by gaslighting the populace; this is why it must squelch, contain, and punish free thought and speech. Unauthorized lateral communication helps the revolutionary fire catch and spread, burning down the artifice constructed by the leftoid Equalism Narrative gatekeepers.

The high priests of the Left know they have been shoving Lies down our throats for generations. But they are egotistically invested in their religion, and their Lies are the tithes they pay to their Flat Humanity god, in hopes that one day the cosmic order will realign and vindicate their faith. In the meantime, heretics will be crushed so the Left can comfortably evade the reckoning that they so richly and belatedly deserve.

Trump has been formally suspended by Twitter. I believe he’s officially going to Parlor, but as mentioned above, that site is under heavy attack. He should get on Gab, which is awesome btw. They own their own servers so they are less fragile than some of the other alt-tech sites. The owner, Andrew Torba, is a based Christian and clearly “our guy”. He’s dedicated to free speech and it’s encouraging the platform is experiencing a huge surge in new users.

Parler is partly owned by Dan Bongino, who is one of the best commentators on Fox News. It's being attacked for not being an ideological clone of the totalitarian Big Tech giants.

I hope they will be screaming bloody murder going forward.

As always a small minority will, but the party will need to be rebuilt from the grassroots up to be a real opposition rather than a pretend one. And of course the Deep State, which the GOP establishment is part of, will do everything they can to prevent it.

From a Breitbart article on today's site: "Despite having control of the Senate, Congress, and White House from 2016 to 2018, Republicans did not pass any legislation to curtail tech companies’ ability to censor American citizens, elected representatives, government officials, or interfere in the politics of the United States."

That's the true Republican Party, always playing their role as the loyal opposition.

Ya it seems the Republicucks are content with selling out their positions for money. They have no interest in winning the D's do all of that. They are simply there to placate the masses, tough talk once in a while with little action.

No doubt RINOs were and still are getting donations from the leftist Big Tech companies. I fear sites like CF will be on the radar once the leftist settle into the WH.

I think CF's downfall will be the indirect bans and the site getting buried even more on search engines (as Don has mentioned several times) along with red pilled whites shutting out sports all together. We need to do what we can to spread the word through these newly popping up alternative sites like Parler and Gab to get our message out.

What's happening in society is concerning. Liberals will claim we still have free speech but the speech has consequences. In reality we're moving closer to censorship as you can have an opinion- as long as I agree with it! Look at the comments section of the media for example. Instead of letting people post their opinions all of the comments get moderated for approval before they are shown e.g. The New York Times. This results in any controversial comments not being shown, with controversial usually being disagreeing with the author's opinion. As a result you get echo chambers. All of this will get worse under Biden and Kamala Harris. Harris wants to introduce critical race theory into schools FFS.

It sounds like Gab is going to be rapidly expanding the numbers of members it has so we need to do our best to get people to join the CF Gab group as well as join up here as well.

Apple just removed the Parler APP. Maybe this CCP move will be the thing that wakes White people up! We shall see. I was never on social media, but I do realize its communication effect for the Masses. Normies will have to develop their own. But how will they get access to smart phones with user friendly ability?

Apps can be removed but so far websites are still up. @Freethinker put his money where his mouth is and paid for a 2 year subscription to Gab in order to create a CF group over there. Gab does have some warts but with the sudden increase in traffic and members I think it will be able to refine itself into a worthy online community. All of the echo chamber nonsense can be thrown out the window because the left does not encourage civil discourse and arguments - they have an anti-white dogma which is the central pillar to their secular God forsaken statist religion . It is all a numbers game now so CF members need to get on Gab - start posting openly and freely and do our part to build the numbers back up on this site as well.

Yes, at LF has said, Gab is experiencing tremendous growth right now. It’s probably my favorite “free speech” platform at of all of the alt-techs at the moment. Some recent posts from owner Andrew Torba:
