Wow that's a great picture. One thing that is ironic is that the South African Colors are like the University of Oregon Duck Colors where the World Championships will begin next weekend. Maybe that's a sign of good things to come. I
hope he enjoys his time in America. The stadium is beautiful and the nature scenry up in the northwest of America is breathtakings. Good luck to our main guy Emile! :)

There is some interesting news. South Africa selected the 3 sprinter for the 100m that qualified on time Akani Simbine, Gift Lotlela and Clarence Munyai. Emile and Henricho Bruitjies qualified by world ranking and they were included for the 4x100.

Of the 5 only Akani and Emile have Visas for the US. The other 3 are still stranded in Italy and it seems they cannot secure visas for the US.

Without being cruel I hope that they cannot fly to the US which might give Emile a chance for the 100m. It will hamper our chances for the 4x100 but as far as I am concerned I would much rather see him run 100 than 4x100.

For all of the bad luck he has had he deserves the chance to run. Great kid/hard worker, humble and devoted. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Emile is just like his father and we are fans of the Erasmus Family. Let's hope things work
out. It would be so exciting to see Emile line up in the individual 100 meters. After all of his years of training and competing he deserves a shot. If it happens he just needs to not be too nervous. Easier said than done but he belongs on that
track racing against the best sprinters in the world. He is on that level. Good luck Emile. Gonna be yelling and screaming for you!

Thank you all for the kind words.

Spoke to him this morning after 40 hours in transit he is pretty much trashed but in good spirit.

Not easy to sleep on a plane when you are 6'3"

here’s hoping he gets his shot in the individual 100, and he stuns the world!

South Africa ran a 3rd in the heats and through to the final. Emile had a great run and ran the second quickest split on the back straight at 9.06! This was the fourth quickest split time of the heat.

I am a super proud dad:banana:

Hi Guys, just an update.

6th place they are not to happy but Emile ecstatic with his split time of 9.06 in the heats. They dropped Bruintjies who started and had Emile start in the final. Big mistake Gift ran back straight and only managed 9.24. Our handovers was the slowest and .55 slower than Canada. Difference between Canada and South Africa 0.62. Oh what could have been!

But we take a lot of positives from this.

Bad news is that Emile was to board a flight tonight for the UK and commonwealth games but picked up Covid in Eugene. Tested positive this morning and has to stay at home. He is hoping to return to Europe as soon as he is well and finish up the European season.

I will certainly tell him and thank you for all the support and good wishes!!

He is at home now recovering from jetlag. He is feeling good and not sick anymore. Was under the weather on Friday and Saturday when he ran. Hoping he will get some good races in Europe.

This literally is the reason why the relatively weak Canadian team beat the Americans who had an all star team for their relay but lost to the slower team on paper. I wonder if a relay training camp could have helped this team.

In 2001 South Africa earned a silver on the day of the race and due to Balco "supplements" earned their gold in the lab and the team was similar to the Canadian team less Degrasse.

PS did your son ever play competitive rugby? He's a tank...

Yes he did play competitive rugby.

Just a little background for those who don't know rugby and South African sport. Rugby used to be our national sport before the ANC took over the country in 1994. Rugby was the sport to play for white boys and was considered the ultimate sport to play. It is still the case with kids in "traditional" white schools.

Emile used to play 15's rugby for his school up to grade 11. He started playing 7's rugby which he did for 3 years in grades 10, 11 and 12. Due to season clashes he had to choose T&F or rugby 15's. He dropped the rugby but continued with 7s. He represented South Africa as a junior in 2009 and 2010.

Yes, he was a tank. As a school kid playing 7's he was always the biggest and fastest on the field. In the 2010 7's season he played in 7 tournaments and scored 35 tries(touch downs).

At 18 years of age he had already reached 6'3", weighed 190lbs and ran 10.60.

I include a pic of his rugby days

Hi everyone,

Hope you are keeping well. Everything well with all of us.

Some news on Emile and his injury.

The tendon he tore under his foot is 94% healed. He has started track work again under strict supervision of his physiotherapist. Taking it very slowly but we hope that he will be ready for 2024.

He did not neglect his other training spending his normal track time in the pool and normal time in the gym. He is extremely strong and in the best shape I have ever seen him. He normally ends his winter program(summer in South Africa) around 240 pounds and competition around 215 pounds. He is now 225 pounds so well on schedule to competition weight.

All this is managed by his coach, dietician, personal and biokineticist.

Thanks again for all the support and I do apologize for being so quiet but I will give news as it develops.
