I think we are safer in South Africa than in Chicago at the moment. Crime is still high but we have community policing in the suburbs. We stay in the capital city, Pretoria but in the northern suburbs one of the safest suburbs in the city. City center is terrible and we do not go there, ever. The farm attacks are much less than a few years ago but still a concern. It is such a shame because it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

No real contenders in the 100m's. The closest is Theodore Young but not a youngster anymore at a 10.30 pb and 20.70pb. Young white athletes play rugby after school and are drawn in by very lucrative contracts. Financial rewards are great whereas track and field athletes in South Africa make no money.

Emile makes his yearly budget in Europe and by coaching but is mostly supported by me.

His trip to Europe now as an example. He paid his own airfare to Europe but received some money from the provincial club to cover his living expenses. He is a fulltime student and studies civil engineering which he pays himself. He still lives with me. He needs to make around $20 000 in Europe to cover his yearly budget.

I spoke to him this morning, he left Amsterdam for Paris and is extremely pumped for tomorrow. He has some great competition and I hope this will bring the sub 10. I include the start list for tomorrow in PDF format.

It is awesome to chat to you guys. Thank you for all the support
You’ve got an amazing kid there and it sounds like you’ve done a great job raising him. Let’s hope he gets that sub 10! Once he gets that he can start working towards the 9.8s!

He needs the perfect race, conditions included. He had a good few days after Poland with recovery and training. His head is on straight and is never bothered by the competition. He goes into 100% focus mode as soon at the whistle . His training and experience kicks in and I pray for the prefect race!!

Live stream is on Sportenfrance.com

The schedule is. Remember the time zone is GMT +2

No problem my friend. It's on duckduckgo.com Click on image search. Then put your sons name in there. They probably have other pics you might like.

I will be working tommorow so I probably won't see the race or result until tommorow night. Regardless, good luck Emile. Go show them your talent! Hoping for another seasons best time.

Just something I would like to share. This is a quote from his coach

"As everyone knows by now, I coach this incredible athlete Emile Erasmus. It is a thing accepted as one would accept the sun to raise the next morning. The fact is this year I have been coaching him for 10 years!
It blows my mind at the level of trust he must have in me, and things haven't always been easy, there has been tough times let me tell you! It fills me with a huge amount of respect, love, gratitude and a burning desire to make him even better and greater than he has been or is now.
Surely along the way people has whispered in his ear to change coaches. Surely doubt has crept in, as doubt has been in my mind when I am being criticized for things we are doing or the state of his fitness, or being called as not good enough. But he knows that there is nothing I would not do to get him back on and keep him on the track. That I am his greatest fan and his biggest supporter. I know every little detail of his ability, and that is a dangerous thing for a coach to know... A lot of other people should be very worried.
So what is the lesson.
Relationship and trust is the key to success.
Thanks for your trust son, I am humbled by it."

He came a very close 3rd in this race but the timing equipment failed so no times where given.

Click on the link for the story. It gives them hand times for the race. Both of those guys are sub 10 guys so Erasmus is in good company talent wise.

Thank you again for posting things that we would never see or read as well as your thoughts. I want him to go sub 10 wind legal so bad! Let's stay positive and hope for the best. One race at a time
and on any day or night we could see history happen! :)

that would appear to be a great field to race against, Miele. A fairly even field of top internationals.
My son in law is from SA and ran 10.73 (or so) at 17 to finish 2nd in his state. Has never beaten it since but now at 38 is looking to get back into it as his little ones start Little Athletics here in Sydney. He could make some nice inroads into master's events and I'll go back (at near 70) to do Shot again just to encourage and be there with him.

"Bon chance" to Emile tomorrow

good work indeed.
One metre between first and fourth about fulfilled my expectations when I saw it looked a pretty level playing field. That should get him a number more runs in Europe and help his confidence

Despite the 4th place finish Emile did great. He now has two races in 2 meets in a row where he ran 10.14 and 10.15 wind legal. There was very little wind today so he did it all on his own. One thing I notice about Emile Erasmus is that he is
a very good starter. His reaction time is always up there or better than many of the other sprinters. Combine that with his expolosivness, power, fast turnover ratio and a longer stride make for an elite sprinter. I see him going sub 10.10 in his
next race with good conditions. Not trying to put any pressure on him but that's my prediction. I will say he runs a 10.08 or 10.09 next time out. Hope i'm right but if I'm wrong maybe he goes faster! :)

Great work Emile. Keep it up. We are huge fans here on this message board and we know that you make your dad as well as all of us very proud!

Thank you guys. He is disappointed with his placing but ok with his time. Another sub 10.2 within a week. He was happy with his start, much better than Poland. He said that it was not his best race and did not feel very comfortable during the run. We will see with his next race as his goal is qualification for the worlds in Eugene which is 10.05. We all know he is capable of doing it.

I have not downloaded the video yet but will place it as soon as I can.

I have a question for you to ask Emile? Has Emile ever tried sprinting on grass barefoot? You have to make sure the grass/field is safe with no holes or anything that could cause you to trip. I've heard of sprinters that do this
sometimes as it's builds even more strength in your feet and ankles. It seems like it would as you don't have the support of a shoe/spikes. They do support your foot and ankle to a degree. In a sport where winning and losing can
come down to 100ths of a second, it might be something to try in the training for 2023. Just my thoughts. Maybe he could ask his coach of the last decade what he thinks? Excited to hear when his next race will be?

His training is about 60% on grass. Most schools in SA have grass tracks and where he trains it is only grass. He has to travel about 10 miles for the closest mondo track. He is waiting for a slot in Hengelo on Monday but I will keep you updated.

Wow now I'm even more impressed by Emile Erasmus race. Lanes 1 and 8 are horrible for sprinters. It's not very often that any spritnter wins out of those races. Especially in a evenly matched race with sprinters all near or at the
same level. For him to be as close as he was gets me even more pumped up! Great job to stay focused despite the bad lane draw. It happens and he handled it very well. That time looks even better knowing it came on an outside lane!
Again great job to your son. He is focused and dialed in. I see sub 10.10 very soon!

Thank you, yes I thought that was very good.

He will be in Hengelo tonight, race is on Monday. Going to be a good one the field is the strongest he has encountered so far. Hoping to go sub 10.05

Yes I agree. I need to quit saying his next race will be sub 10.10! We need a 10.05 or faster wind legal to qualify for the 2022 World Championships! Let's Do this!

YOU MUST BELIEVE BEFORE YOU ACHIEVE! :)
