How long has Eli been in the league? I'm asking because apparently Michael Strahan thinks this season is make-or-break for Manning. This was brought up in an interview on ESPNews sometime around July 23rd. Any one catch the interview or have info on it?

This will be his 4th season in the league and 3rd to start. I think Eli will be fine in New York. He gets better every year. The Giants need to worry about having people he can give the ball to, and having a better line to block for all of them.

The problems with Eli have been in the 2nd half of the last two seasons. His stats have been much better in the 1st halves. However, I pinpoint the problems to injuries on the O-line the second half of 2005 and losing his checkoff number 2 receiver Amani Toomer the second half of last year.

Strahan should keep his mouth shut. He is not a team player and is planning on holding out this year. Strahan got a very lucrative front-loaded contract that the Giants couldn't really afford and now that he's on the raw end of it he won't honor it. I don't want to jinx things but isn't it amazing how far Eli Manning has come in the last year. From media pyriah and first round bust to Super Bowl MVP to regular season MVP???? I can dream at least

. Seriously Manning is putting up fantastic numbers for a top team. Eli has a career high 63.6 completion percent. Ranks 6th in yards per game with 258 yards per game on a run first offense. Only 6 TDs but more importantly only 1 INT and only 5 sacks. 5th in QB rating at 99.7.

If Eli can continue to play with poise and confidence he should remain in MVP discussion (which could cause the heads of all of the homosexual espn and national sports writers to explode).

Also, I'm sure most of you have noticed Eli (with Peyton) in many national commercials but in NY he is now appearing in many local commercials as well. This was never the case in years past. He is finally getting the star treatment he deserves.

I remember reading once (possibly on this board?) that another brother was a very promising prospect at the wideout position. I don't know what happened to him--he may have been injured, or found a calling elsewhere. Maybe the caste system ruined him, though if he and his father have a halfway decent relationship I guess that probably didn't happen. Archie Manning must have had enough connections for that not to happen.
It's funny to me that I've met so many thousands of people in my life who've told me their last names, and none of them had this one. Then football's full of them. Good point, Jaxvid.

Cooper Manning is the oldest Manning brother, and currently is a manager of an oil and energy firm. He was diagnosed with spinal stenosis (causing a numbness and tingling in the hands, as well as elsewhere, sort of a bad thing for a WR) while at Ole Miss and was forced to hang it up.

DWFan, Cooper came to Ole Miss and was diagnosed the summer before his freshman season. He did get at least one picture taken in an Ole Miss uniform prior to learning of the problem and leaving the team. The picture is in the athletic building there on campus in Oxford. I think I have posted about this before, buta long time ago. Cooper was a standout WR at Isadore-Newman, and caught more than a few TDs from little brother Peyton. Could have been a great connection there at Ole Miss too, but it didn't work out that way.

Quarterback Eli Manning has agreed to a contract extension with the New
York Giants that will give him the highest average annual salary in the
NFL, a source familiar with the negotiations said Wednesday.



The six-year extension is worth about $97.5 million, said the source,
who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement had not
been officially announced. It includes approximately $35 million in
guaranteed money, the source said, and runs through the 2015 season.



Manning had one season remaining on his existing six-year,
approximately $45 million contract. That deal was to pay him $9.4
million this season.



With the extension, Manning is to make $106.9 million over the next
seven seasons. That's an NFL-high average annual income of $15.27
million.



The former top overall selection in the 2004 NFL draft led the Giants
to a Super Bowl triumph in the 2007 season and was selected to his
first Pro Bowl last season. He has led the Giants to the playoffs in
each of his four full seasons as an NFL starter.



According to the New York Daily News, Giants
General Manager Jerry Reese told reporters Wednesday he's hopeful that
the finishing touches will be applied to the deal soon but declined to
confirm the widely reported contract terms. Reese said he believes that
Manning is worthy of such a contract.


"He's a franchise
quarterback," Reese told reporters, according to the Daily News. "He's
come in, he takes a lot of flak from you guys and he just keeps going.
He does what we ask him to do on the field. He does what we ask him to
do off the field. He's a good football player."



Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha previously had the league's
highest average annual income, at $15.1 million per season. He signed a
three-year, $45.3 million contract in the offseason. That deal included
$28.5 million in guaranteed money.



Manning's older brother, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, has a contract worth about $14 million per season.



In five NFL seasons, Eli Manning has thrown for 14,623 yards with 98
touchdown passes and 74 interceptions. He threw for 3,238 yards last
season, with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and was the league's

Other than the strangely-written, moronic anti-white skit on ESPN last season featuring Eli, Usain Bolt, and the always unfunny Kenny Mayne....I have nothing against Eli.

It's pretty crazy that he makes alot more money than the much superior Tom Brady.

That goes without saying, lol. With Rivers and even Brady having somewhat of down years so far it's great to see Eli filling the void so well. He's more introverted than Peyton and as a result Eli doesn't have the same public personna even though he plays in New York, but there's little dropoff in talent.
