Early Look at the "deep" 2013 Draft

Is it just me or does it seem like this draft might have way more white players than usual? The offensive line, LBs and even safeties have more whites, especially when you look into the mid rounds.
I forgot where I read it but some blog has Notre Dame safety Zeke Motta going in the second round and Richmond/Georgia Tech safety Cooper going as high as the third round.
Also I could easily say there will be a plethora of white linebackers being taken this year with Nebraska possibly sending 2 and even Wisconsin. Kiko Alonso had a monster game for Oregon as well last night. I am sure his draft stock is on the rise.

Cooper Taylor

VIB,

nice call, mentioning Richmond safety (Georgia Tech transfer) Cooper Taylor.

he is a MONSTER at safety, standing at about 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds. he's not just physically imposing, though, because he is also completely dominant on the field. for the 2012 season, he was named to literally every All-American team that is out there:

- First-Team AP All-American
- First-Team Walter Camp All-America
- First-Team The Sports Network All-American
- Second-Team All-American by Phil Steele

the lists likely continue. he's a brainiac, as well:

- First-Team Capital One Academic All-American

just about the only possible thing that can be potentially said about him (other than he's a White defensive back, that is) is that he isn't fast enough ... so it will be interesting to see if he gets a Combine invitation. he will be playing in the East-West (or is it the other one?) all star game.

for those who've forgotten (including me!), here's a reminder of when Taylor came on the scene as a freshman. he sealed Georgia Tech's upset win over #15 Florida State by forcing a fumble inside the 5-yard line that was recovered by Tech. you can see the big hit below.

He was a beast last night. His first sack of the night he beat the Poly Right Tackle of Fresno and leveled Derek Carr for a strip sack. His second sack of the night ended with a safety. He wasn't done though he finished the night strong with another forced fumble on Fresno St. RB. I think Margus has proven he is a first round pick. Potentially giving us 3 white DE's who could go in the first round.(Werner and Simon being the other 2)

Dadgum Margus Hunt (6'8, 275) is an animal! Prior to his career at SMU, he won a Junior European championship and two world junior titles in discus throw and shot put. Get this (from CBS Sports)...

For nearly 10 years, Bruce Feldman, a writer for CBSSports.com, has annually compiled what he calls a "Freak List" of the 10 college football players he considers the most freakish athletes. In 2012, Hunt was on top of his list. According to Feldman, Hunt "sounds like a PlayStation football creation"—despite his 82-inch (2.1 m) wingspan, he is able to bench press 225 pounds 35 times, and has also cleaned 384 pounds (174 kg) and snatched 345 pounds (156 kg). Hunt also boasts a 36-inch vertical jump. Wollman predicts that Hunt will have 45 repetitions and a 4.6-second 40-yard dash at the 2013 NFL combine.

Well there's definitely going to be more than last year's god awful draft. There are a lot of good white pieces on defense plus 2 running backs and at least 3 wide receivers. Also, the wave of sumos seems to have receded quite a bit.

I think 2014 will tell the story of whether there's ever going to be a dent put in the caste system. There are a very strong number of whites that are going to be starting seniors at the DL and LB positions and the way it's looking now they may end up being a significant chunk of the top level players available. We're talking maybe 40% of all linebackers taken (perhaps 80%+ percent of inside linebackers) and maybe 25%+ percent of all pass rushers.

We'll see.

I wouldn't bet on Zeke Motta going in the second round, although I think he'll definitely get drafted.

As far as Nebraska having two draftable white linebackers...there's only one, Will Compton, and he's on the middle linebacker bubble. Supa affletes Ogletree and Minter have already declared, pushing him down the boards, but at least Compton and the other white middle linebackers trying to get drafted won't have to worry about any more of that. With those two declaring, nearly every top middle linebacker prospect for the 2014 draft is white, and of those only Chris Borland is looking to leave early as far as I know.

I have seen on this site that some people think only wide receivers Ryan Swope and Connor Vernon will get drafted but if peolpe have the time today watch Pittsburgh's wr Mike Shannahan. He is 6'5" and has a 42" vertical. He had a very productive senior season where some people had written him off because he had a lackluster junior season.
If he were black he would probably be compared to Plaxico Burress who IMO is way overrated. He has all the tools but is not probably even a 4.5 guy but how many of these afroletes are 4.5 guys as well? Not to many I suppose.

Ryan Swope would be an excellent pick for the Dolphins since he is already familiar with Mike Shermans offense as he played for him at A&M. Of course, don't tell that to our caste whore GM Jeff Ireland.

I watched Margus Hunt's play against Fresno State again and then checked out a couple of other SMU games this year (thanks Jewtube!) and I realized something...

Margus Hunt is going to be the 1st pick in the 2013 draft. Remember where you heard it.

I don't care that he'll be a 27 year old rookie, I don't care that he's still fairly raw. His play has been exemplary this year and his measurables are absolutely retarded. He's going to be the story of the combine this year, the greatest workout warrior the scouts have ever seen.

Also, Joe Kruger will be a late 1st - early 2nd round pick. His size, explosiveness and power compare favorably to J J Watt.

I am not trying to be negative but there is no way Hunt will be the first overall pick. He may very well be a first rounder but he won't go number one. He is overaged and white - those two things will hurt him.

I was being slighty hyperbolic. If he was 23, he would be the top pick, no questions asked. But he's still a top 5 pick, and that's where he'll go.

Just wait and see.

I've never witnessed an inside pass rusher be able to slice through a double team like he does, so powerful that he can fend off a blocker with each hand. Hunt kills it inside and outside and has already built up some great fundamentals and pass rush moves. He was more dominant this year than any other 3-4 D lineman by far.

Scouts are often stupid and anti-white but even they'll be able to see what I see, it's just too obvious.

Here is an article about potential number one pick Luke Joeckel. He plays offensive tackle, so he obviously doesn't get much press. Still, I'd like to see him turn into another Tony Bosselli.

[h=1]Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel declares for 2013 NFL draft, could be first overall pick[/h]

By Doug Farrar | Shutdown Corner – 10 hours ago

(Getty Images)Those teams near the top of the selection order in the 2013 NFL draft in need of offensive line help got a big boost when it was announced that Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel will make himself eligible for the upcoming draft. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Joeckel is NFLDraftScout's number-one draft prospect, and may very well be the best player in the draft when all is said and done. Without a marquee quarterback this year as there was in 2012 with Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, Joeckel has a chance of hearing his name called with the first pick, which is currently owned by the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I love my teammates and we have such a great team coming back,â€￾ Joeckel said earlier this month about his potential decision. “It'd just be so hard to leave College Station and leave my friends. We have a lot back, too. We do lose [defensive end] Damontre [Moore] and we have senior linebackers, but we think we have some guys that will step up. “It's just a rough decision both ways. There are so many pros and cons. It's going to take a lot of time and a lot of prayer.â€￾
[Related: Manti Te'o's draft stock in doubt after tough BCS title game]
Joeckel has the kind of excellent pass-blocking technique that made USC's Matt Kalil attractive as the highest-picked offensive lineman in 2012 (selected fourth overall by the Minnesota Vikings), but he's also a bit nastier in the run game. As the primary protector for two mobile quarterbacks in Ryan Tannehill and Johnny Manziel, Joeckel is also asked to run-block with authority and sustain blocks longer than some other left tackles, and he does these things with great authority.
Coming out of a low stance, Joeckel establishes leverage on potential pass-rushers, and his best and most consistent trait might be his ability to set the edge on running plays. He's very good at re-establishing position after taking a first blow from a defender, and he'll often keep his blocks going past the normal expiration point. Joeckel is physical and forceful when firing out to run-block, and he has the lateral agility to pin inside and take out a defensive tackle. He would work well in a zone system, as he has the second-level quickness to get upfield and deal with linebackers. He'll also get mobile in a big hurry to block on screen passes.
The 2012 Outland Trophy winner was the pointman in an offense that was dynamic enough to allow Manziel to become the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy. Texas A&M right tackle Jake Matthews, the son of NFL Hall-of-Famer Bruce Matthews, is considered to be perhaps the best at his position in college football.

WR Brandon Kaufman(redshirt junior) is a big time talent....would expect him to be selected by(at least) Round 4 in the 13' Draft...at his height can stretch the field vertically... Ex-college team-mate DB-Matt Johnson was taken in the 4th Round 2012 NFL Draft by the Cowboys...Kaufman had 9 receptions for 215 yards & 3 TD's in the FCS Semi-Final loss to Sam Houston St.

Eastern Washington's Kaufman to enter NFL draft

Eastern Washington's record-setting wide receiver Brandon Kaufman will forego his senior season and enter the 2013 NFL Draft.

Kaufman is a junior-eligible prospect after receiving a medical redshirt in 2011 because of a broken left hand. The FCS All-America signed with an agent on Sunday, the Big Sky Conference university announced Wednesday.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Kaufman came back this season to catch 1,850 receiving yards, a single-season record for the Football Championship Subdivision. He caught 93 passes and 16 touchdowns as the Eagles posted an 11-3 record and reached the national semifinals.

As a sophomore in 2010, he caught two touchdown passes in the second half when Eastern Washington rallied to beat Delaware in he FCS national championship game.

Kaufman caught 221 passes for 3,731 yards and 33 touchdowns in 42 career games.

I definitely have Matt Barkley ranked ahead of Geno Smith! Matt Barkley can go through his checkdowns well enough, but he really missed Rhett Ellison this year IMO. I'm not writing Matt Barkley off at this point.

However, if he's a mid-1st round selection, that might be better for him anyways! Does any QB want to go in the Top 5, 6 or 7 of this Draft?...

Even Mel Kiper has Barkley rated higher than Smith. I have noticed he hasn't bought into the hype of the Black qb prospects as much as McShay has. He's more old school Caste...:thumbdown:

Geno Smiff just isn't that good. Even some of the caste stalwarts such as Kiper are starting to recognize this. The best player in this draft is easily Luke Joeckel out of Texas A&M. An Offensive lineman might not be the "sexiest" pick but he is indeed the smartest one. Just out of curiosity I went on a Kansas City Chiefs message board just to see who their fanbase of DWF's were hoping to get with the #1 overall pick. As to the surprise of absolutely no one, the consensus pick of the DWF's was far and away Geno Smiff. The brainwashing of the masses never ceases to amaze me.

2012 NFL Draft Stock Down

KansasState_logo.gif
Collin Klein, QB, Kansas State

The Heisman Trophy finalist proved that he is a great college player and nothing more. He had a horrible week of practice at the East-West Shrine. Klein illustrated for NFL scouts that he has terrible throwing mechanics and footwork. That leads to him having bad accuracy with awful ball placement. Klein also showed that his arm strength is lacking and outside of his running ability, he doesn't offer much. Scouts were heard laughing at some of Klein's throws.

Klein was a tremendous playmaker for the Wildcats in 2012, but he looks like a quarterback for Canada or the arena league. In interviews, Klein said he isn't interested in changing positions. Entering the East-West, Klein could have been a late-round developmental project but with his performance in St. Petersburg Klein looks more like an undrafted free agent.

I've been hearing a lot of the same regarding Klein WA33.. It seems that another religious dual threat QB is getting blackballed by the league.

On a bright note Rutgers DT/DE Scott Vallone had himself a nice week of practice it should help him get drafted.

Bobby Deren of ScarletNation.com: Rutgers defensive tackle Scott Vallone appears to have upped his draft stock at East-West Shrine Practices.

TE Nick Kasa is on NFL radar for 2013 draft

MOBILE, Ala. — He is surrounded by all-conference players, All-Americans and bowl game MVPs, yet Nick Kasa still has found a way to stand out.

He is in a crowd of NFL hopefuls he never expected to be in, playing a position he had never tried until his career at Colorado was in its final stages.

"There's no way I thought I'd be in this position," Kasa said. "Just no way. Not even close, not even close. And if I wouldn't have switched positions, I wouldn't be."

Kasa is the lone representative from a football-playing college or university in Colorado at the Senior Bowl this week. The former prep All-America defensive lineman at Legacy, now is a tight end who has run himself on to the NFL's radar.

With disappointment weighing on him and his confidence draining, Kasa talked to former Buffs coach Jon Embree about a position switch from the defensive line eight games into the 2011 season. Embree, a former tight ends coach in the NFL who was hired by the Cleveland Browns Thursday to coach the position again, saw potential and Kasa saw freedom.

"I really wasn't doing anything on the D-line," Kasa said. "I was just kind of filling a slot on the roster. Coming in as a big recruit, it just wasn't right for me. I felt like I needed to accomplish something for the team. I was just getting in there being a filler, for reps. And without coach Embree talking to me about it, and then moving me over, none of this happens."

"He's a big guy that can run, very athletic," Embree said. "J.D. Brookhart (former Buffs tight ends coach) did a great job of working with him on a daily basis and helping Nick with his confidence. Nick being there this week is a testament to his work ethic and his desire and want-to. I'm very happy for him, I actually talked about him in my interview with Cleveland."

At a time when the tight end has become the matchup offenses believe they can win all over the field, Kasa has shown the speed of a smaller player despite being 6-foot-5½ and 271 pounds. As the week progressed in Mobile, scouts from several teams said Kasa seemed to catch the ball better every day against some of the nation's best defensive prospects. In a red-zone drill during Thursday's practice, Kasa plucked a low fastball with a defender hanging all over him.

"In a lot of ways, I think the sky's kind of the limit for me and I think I've only scratched the surface of what I can do," Kasa said. "I've done pretty well with just one year under my belt. I'd like to see what I can do with eight like most of these guys have. I know there's a lot I still have to learn, but I'm learning fast.

"This all has turned football around for me. I was really down on myself. And even as disappointing as it was this past year (the Buffs finished 1-11), I felt like I kind of discovered the game again."

Embree said Kasa's time at defensive end — Kasa played in 24 games on defense in his career in Boulder, including one start, against Texas Tech in 2010 — could help his cause.
"You look at the way Nick can run, that athleticism and that he plays with that mind-set of a defensive player, he should impact things on special teams right away," Embree said. "That defensive background will be a plus for him."

The Oakland Raiders staff, including coach Dennis Allen, a former Broncos defensive coordinator, is expected to give Kasa plenty of playing time in Saturday's game. Kasa has often worked with the North's No. 1 offense in practices this week.

Great news about Kasa and Kaufman. Thanks for the updates guys. This years draft is going to be a step above the usual for our guys in my honest opinion. April cannot get here soon enough!

I agree about April not getting here soon enough. There would be nothing I would like more than to see the Chiefs pass on Geno Smiff at #1 overall, seeing the look on his face. Then see the look on his face as he falls out of the first round altogether.

Me too. Their offensive line is so bad that I don't think andy reid can resist upgrading it with the 1st pick. It would be foolish to pass over a guy like joeckel for geno 'jason campbell' smifffffffffffffff.

Texas vs. Nation All-Star Game

word is that wide receivers T.J. Moe (Missouri) and Ryan Spadola (Lehigh from the FCS) have been completely uncoverable in the practices leading up to the game ...

hopefully this will translate into opportunities in the League.

Both guys have definitely helped out their cause with good workouts. Spadola's not much talked about but he's a big receiver with some wheels he ran a 4.48 which even surprised me. Moe is going to be a good one and I believe he ran a better 40time at his pro day.

CMU receiver Cody Wilson measured in at 5'9 191.. He ran a 4.69 in his case he is a quicker than fast guy and is best suited for the slot. His coach believes he can stick on with an NFL team
