Who has the authority to offer the invitations to the NFL Combine? Is there a committee? Who is on that committee?

I'm asking because I'd like to know who needs to be relieved of duty.

Here is cornerback Kendric Burney from North Carolina:
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 186lbs.
40: 4.72
Bench: 14 reps
Arms: 29 inches

Short. Weak. Very Slow. Short Arms.
Exactly why would any NFL team require this subsimian's services? The corners on my local high school football team have better measurables.

Also, in barely related news, here's a good article about the 40 yard dash and how it's mostly a sham.

rotoworld defending a white player?

Purdue DE Ryan Kerrigan recorded one of the top ten-yard splits at the NFL Scouting Combine, registering a 1.65.
Kerrigan also impressed in the forty (4.71) and on the bench (31 reps of 225). While one draft analyst in particular has questioned Kerrigan's "stiffness," we don't have any concerns that he'll be a disruptive, and perhaps even dominant NFL pass rusher. He's almost certainly going to be a top-27 pick.

His athleticism was questioned all season long and based on what? Simply on the fact that he's white. Since he put up fantastic numbers one of the self loathing white pigs had to make up some crap about him being "stiff."

In addition, Oregon's Jeff Maehl finished as a top performer in three categories while setting a new NFL combine record.

Bair is currently a prospect for teams that run a 3-4 defense, and he's likely to get drafted as a defensive end, despite playing his Oregon career primarily as an interior lineman.

Before entering Monday's dirlls, Bair was slotted to become a 6th round draft pick and was ranked as the 18th best defensive end (out of 182 draft-eligible DE's).

Improving his draft stock, he ran a 4.82 40-yard dash on Monday. Here are his top results and his ranking among fellow defensive lineman:
<BLOCKQUOTE>

40 yard Shuttle: 4.82 sec. (13th)
20 yard Shuttle: 4.37 sec. (10th)
Broad Jump: 9'6" (9th)
3 Cone Drill: 7.07 sec. (7th)</BLOCKQUOTE>

His official measurements were also taken, putting him at 6'6 and 276 pounds with 33" arm length and 10.13" hand length.

According to KD Drummond of Blogging the Boys, Brandon Bair's Monday performance elevated his draft stock significantly, making him a mid-draft steal for teams that run 3-4 defenses.

Bair's athleticism will certainly make him a viable candidate for a team looking to fill a defensive end position, but his size and strength will have to be improved considerably for him to become a future contributor to an NFL team. Because of this, he is laregly seen around the league as a project player, although he could become a special teams player immediately.

Bair was one of three Oregon players invited to the NFL combine. Middle linebacker Casey Matthews and wide receiver Jeff Maehl are also showcasing their talents for NFL scouts. Matthews is currently projected as a fifth round draft pick, while Maehl is projected to go either in the 7th round or undrafted.

However, Maehl did own the best 3 Cone Drill time among WRs in the combine, setting a new NFL combine record with a time of 6.42 seconds. He also finished with the top 60 yard dash time at 10.88 seconds. He finished second in the 20 yard dash with a 3.94 second run, just 0.06 seconds away from the record set by Boise State's Austin Pettis.

Maehl's ability to block in the running game should also help out his draft stock as teams pore over game footage.http://www.examiner.com/oregon-ducks-football-in-portland/oregon-d-lineman-brandon-bair-has-big-day-at-nfl-combine-jeff-maehl-sets-record

Get ready to hear the MSM's continued "push" for Marcell Dareus.. and "how nimble" he is for a 319-pounder.

Right.. draft him Top 5 or 10, give him a huge signing bonus.. and just "pray" that his joints won't give out.. or that he won't get even heavier. He's already heavier than what he was listed at in college (and, while he was on the college field, I figured he was heavier than his listing).

309 pound listing:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/players/playerpage/1632200/marcell-dareus

306 pound listing:

http://espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=482662

ESPN has him with ZERO career FFs.. and, despite the fact that many college O-linemen really do suck, he didn't have monster-production. I don't care if he plays DE or DT in the NFL.. I don't see him as some kind of "revolutionizer." I'm not going to deny that he has solid short-area quickness on the field, and I recall that he did well against Cam Newton, but a bunch of Whites have that trait TOO. And, J.J. Watt DESTROYED Terrelle Pryor! PLUS, I see Zach Claytor, Brandon Bair, J.R. Sweezy and J.J. Watt.. running down the field and tackling affletes from behind! Another bonus (skill) with White athletes!

Sash only ran a 4.64 and had 11 bench reps. Not going to lie I expected to see Sash in the 4.5 range and to pump out at least 16 or 17 reps..

Walterfootball has Sash running a 4.63. I was hoping he'd run a little better than that. He'll still be drafted.

On the plus side, Chris Conte ran a nice 4.56 and had a 35 1/2 inch vertical leap.

Yeah these times vary more times than not...Mayock &amp; crew said "it doesn't matter what Sash runs...he's a play-maker"! They give him plenty of respect!

Conte ran a 4.53 as well..maybe that was unofficial?

Only 2 white DB's invited to the combine??

Brett Greenwood should have been invited; I'm guessing he's (still) injured??

11 reps is weak(not that, that means you can or can't play football). Your standard weightlifting regiment is 12 reps at a slow measured pace. At the combine guys hit these huge totals because they are basically doing the equivalent of cheating push ups. I suspect the strength coaches allow this because their is no true way to force everybody to do the reps at the same pace.

By the way is Shilo Keo White or Eurasian? I can't tell, some photos he looks White others Poly/White or Eurasian? The NFL network guys were discussing him like the way guys discuss dancers at a strip club...Edited by: white is right

12 reps at 225 is over a 300lb bench press. You are right though, at the Combine they bounce the bar of their chests.

You want to explode the weight up, resist it coming down. That will recruit the most muscle fibers and help build explosive strength. The most I ever put up was 25 reps of 225 lbs in highs school, which was pretty damn good. Still hold the record for bench at my school (405 lbs). Unfortunately concussions acquired in Football and Boxing disabled me from playing college football.<div>
</div><div>Some of the strength this players have is absolutely amazing! I can't wait to see what Casey Matthews does at his Pro Day, since he hurt himself during the bench press at the Combine and underperformed because of it.</div>

more on JJ from rotoworld:

MLive.com's Tom Kowalski suggests that Wisconsin DE J.J. Watt "rocketed up" draft boards at the Scouting Combine.
Weighing in at 6'5 3/8" and 290, Watt bench pressed 225 lbs 34 times with 34-inch arms, ran a 4.84 forty, broad jumped 10 feet, and posted a 37-inch vertical. Belief that Watt is just a "try-hard guy" was dispelled in Indy. He also beat out much smaller pass rushers like Aldon Smith in the ten-yard split.

I've heard that Sash has had 2 shoulder surgeries in his career so I guess we should take that into account as well. I shouldn't be to harsh on Tylers workout numbers, plain and simple the guy is one of the most productive safeties in the draft. Glad to see Conte and Sash compete and put up solid numbers as the only two white boys allowed at the combine at their position.

And, he doesn't have the super-wide (call it a double-wide?) hips or fat gut of a Marcell Dareus!

Our athletes are STUDS, no question about it.

Watt shouldve been at the top in the first place. Just like Kerrigan it was assumed he wouldn't put up good numbers and that both got numbers by being "high motor" guys. Now people are trying to put both down by saying that neither had the 10 yard split that Clay Matthews had which was an insane 1.49 (I don't think thats going to be broken by a pass rusher any time soon, hey maybe they should put Clay at halfback since hyping up Ingram's 10 yard split hah) They still had well above average 10 yard splits, I think top in their class this season and Watt's broad jump and vertical is insane for a guy his size.

Kerrigan and Watt are two ELITE athletes. Just like Jared Allen, they are seen as "hustle guys" instead of (like Allen) absolute top-of-the-line athletes. Allen might be the most athletic DE in Football (Peppers, I will admit, is up there too) but he is rarely described as such.<div>
</div><div>Kerrigan and Watt PROVED beyond a doubt that they are above everyone else athletically; at the very least they are equals to those black DEs who are HYPED as being such better athletes.</div>

From what I have read many strength coaches have stated that the snap should be part of the combines as it shows true explosion as it combines upper body and lower body explosion. I think the reason why it isn't part of the test is because it's a much more technical lift.

some BS comments...

This guy was so fun to watch! He may not be the biggest, fastest, or strongest, but he plays with so much heart and never quits on a play as you can see. I see him having a long, successful career in the NFL. Which ever team drafts him will be very happy they did.

He is not that big for a DE in the NFL.

How much bigger should Watt be? Should he be 6-10 and 450 pounds? These same folks probably believe that DaQuan Bowers is "so huge"...

Brooks Reed had the fastest 10 yard split out of all DE's, and I think top 3 out of all linebackers, being that he is going to be a pass rusher that is the most important.

I think most people viewed Watt as a 3-4 DE because of being big and white., so I guess they were thinking 300 pounds? Hopefully the combine proved that he is athletic enough to stay in a 4-3. 3-4 ends usually don't get the sacks and glory of 4-3 ends. Mario Williams is a similar size and has put up nice stats as a 4-3 de.

I agree. Watt proved himself athletic and big enoughto be able to play either the 3-4 or the 4-3. To be honest I think whatever system he's in he'll be a great fit. He's a high character guywho has a great work ethic to go along with his athletic talent.

Some Caste logic from Todd McGay
smiley30.gif
:

If NFL scouts weren't familiar with Brooks Reed before the NFL Combine, they are now. Reed is surging up draft boards thanks to a stellar first four days at the all-important Combine.

"Reed isn't an elite athlete, but he has good short-area explosiveness and a nonstop motor that will have him off the board before Day 2 is over," ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay wrote.

Reed ranked third among defensive linemen in the 40-yard dash (4.68 seconds) and the 20-yard shuttle (4.28 seconds), while tying for 10th in the bench press with 30 reps, and clocking the 11th-fastest time in the three-cone drill (7.11 seconds).
[If Reed had finished first in every category would McGay then categorize him as an elite athlete? Probably not.]

The third fastest DE at the combine "isnt an elite athlete"..... This double standard is so obvious.
