There's little doubt that the Mavs were hosed in the 06 finals by the refs.  Badly hosed.  In game 5 of that series Wade shot more foul shots by himself than the entire Mav team combined - and even then the Heat was bailed out at the end of the game by three non-calls on Wade, followed by phantom call to send him to the line to win it.   Given that the Daugherty Scandal broke the very next year I think many fans have mentally conceded the title to the Mavs, and the Heat title is sinking down the Memory Hole.  Dirk went into a funk in the latter part of that series, and stayed in it through the playoffs the following season.  I'm concerned that he is putting together all these excellent games this early in the season; true, he took the summer off and didn't play for his national team, but there is a long way to go in this season.  The NBA season is much too long - it should be reduced by twenty regular season games - and Dirk is going to run out of gas in the playoffs if he keeps these heroics up.  He's 31, with a lot of mileage on his wheels.  If he keeps clocking 39 minutes a night - he played 45 tonight - I can see that chronic ankle problem coming back - and then the Mavs are screwed.

Yes the 2006 NBA finals Mavs screw job has been posted about many times in the past here. I never fail to be sickened by it every time I hear or read those finals referenced. I look forward to that disgraced ref's Tim Donaghy(spelling) book to come out and see if he mentions anything about the refs being paid in that series to make sure Wade and Shaq get a ring together. The only bigger screw job was the 2002 Kings/Lakers series. I also blame Mark Cuban for letting Nash go as he was coming into his prime(two MVPS) and who knows whether Dirk and Nash could have had a title or two by now.
Back to Dirk specifically, he seems to be even more ultra-competitive this year and he has been scary good in the fourth period lately and into overtime. I look forward to the Mavs getting healthy and maybe add another part before the trading deadline and hopefully make another deep run into the playoffs.

Three teams with white stars were screwed of a title by David Stern and the refs. This would be the Kings in 2002, than it would be Dallas in 2006 and then the Suns the next year with the crock suspensions of Amare and Boris Diaw (for stepping a couple feet onto the floor, when Horry blindsided Nash, bulldozing him on the sideline). The previous game Tim Duncan and Bruce Bowen had stepped onto the floor also- when there was a hard foul, but got no punishment. This tyrant loser David Stern needs to go!

Was Duncan guarding Nowitzki the majority of the game?  I remember watching a Spurs-Mavericks game a few years ago and the announcers were saying Dirk is way too quick for Duncan.

For the first three quarters it was mostly Bonner(who hit a couple of 3s for the Spurs) but in the fourth and overtime it was McDyess.

A very good game tonight by the German Wundekind, leading the Mavericks to a 130-99 grounding on the Rockets. It's a rebound win to last nights bad defeat to long-time nemesis the Warriors. When it comes to the Art of Shooting, Dirk Diggler would give definitely Larry Legend a strong run on his money. But, let's make it clear again, you can't compare the Greatest European ever to 1 of the 3 Greatest ever in all of basketball (besides Jordan & Magic).

25 points (10-16 FG's, 5-6 FT's)
8 rebounds
1 assist
2 steals

"The Official Dirk Nowitzki 20,000 Points Watch"

http://dallasbasketballdotcom.yuku.com/topic/33329/t/Offical-Dirk-Nowitzki-20-000-Point-Watch-Dirk-passes-Terry.html?page=1

Dirk just led Dallas to an easy win over the Pacers, 112-93. Dirk now has 19,518 points, and I predict he'll reach 20,000 points in either early or mid January, 2010. Keep it up Dirk, first white dude since Tom Chambers (April 15, 1995) to reach 20,000 points. Here's the video of Chambers' 20,000th point:

If Dirk stays healthy and hungry, he will reach the 25,000 mark.

Some people were laughing at Don Nelson for drafting Dirk.  Boy did he prove everyone wrong.

I was at a Reunion Arena draft party when the Mavs traded for Dirk and Nash and there were alot of boos in the crowd and observations about "white stiffs". I knew then what crapola all that was because I saw a 18 year old Dirk play in the Hoop Summitt and dominated the game and I had seen Nash play in college and so I knew the Mavs had scored big.

Up yours, Larry Brown (jerk-face)!!!!

The spirit of Larry Bird lives on.... and his name's Dirk Nowitzki!!!!

This is another in a long and listless line of amazing performances by the one and only Dirk Nowitzki. Dirk continues to torment the Charlotte Bobcats, a team that has never beaten the Dallas Mavericks since it's foundation. Bobcats are now 0-11 vs. the Mavs. In a super classic and tight game that went into OT, Dirk hits the amazing game-winning shot with only 1.8 seconds left. This the 2nd game-winning shot (other is vs. Milwaukee) of the season for Dirk! Way to Go, Dirk!!!

The highlight video of the amazing game:

Awesome video highlights of Dirk. It's so nice to watch a white seven footer routinely take black athletes off the dribble as he did on those links. Not to mention the many other ways Dirk gets off his shot.

Dirk is currently 5th in the league in scoring. I would like for him to lead the league in ppg but it probably won't happen this season. Carmelo Anthony is several points ahead of him.

It's a 100-86 massacre win for the Mavs! Great bounce back game by Dirk! I just wonder if any White American kid is inspired by his amazing excellence and accomplishments???

Dirk is playing similar to his MVP Season. He is a natural born leader. What a performance. Night after night, 9 times out of 10, he will put on an incredible performance. I still say he is very close to Bird. Just a notch lower but Bird played on teams with alot more talent. Dirk has to pull most of the load himself.

Congrats on another amazing game. I want the Mavs back in the NBA Finals. I know it's a long ways off, but that is my hope.

Dirk Nowitzki is closest thing to another Larry Bird! He's the best of the "next Birds", the best European player ever, the best White player of his generation, and one of the Greatest ever to play in the NBA!

Check out the very first post on page 1 of this thread. It's from Jan 2005, and that night, Dirk also had 35pts and 11 rbs!

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Dirk is one of the all-time greats and a first ballot HOF'er. He's one of the few reasons why I still follow the NBA.

Dirk suffered a freak injury (likely a sprained elbow). Carl Landry collided with Dirk (after Dirk took a shot). Dirk's elbow landed on Landry's face, and lost 3 teeth in the process, while Dirk suffered a nasty cut on his elbow. Both left and never returned. Before leaving, Dirk shot his FT's lefty, going 1-2, and just had 5 points for the night in 10 minutes. Landry was taken to a nearby hospital. I hope BOTH players are OK. Thank goodness, for it could've been worse. Landry's injury is the worst of the two, so I expect David Andersen to enjoy some minutes from him. Dirk will mostly miss his next game. Overall, I wish a speedy recovery to both players.
