This is a great landing spot for Chad Hansen. It's despicable the way Houston treated him after he performed so well for the Texans last season, but such is the life of a White receiver in the NFL. There's certainly no guarantee or even likelihood that Chad will be treated any better in Detroit, but at least the Lions have perhaps the least impressive group of receivers of any team in the league, and Danny Amendola did catch 108 balls for the Lions the past two years before he was left unsigned this offseason.

Weenieworld's one non-brainwashed writer must be working today as Hansen is properly described as a "deep threat."

Lions signed WR Chad Hansen, formerly of the Texans.
Hansen most recently came off the bench in place of Will Fuller (suspension) last year, totaling 17/236/1 as Houston's deep threat across its last five games. The 26-year-old lands in an optimal destination to carve out a role behind Tyrell Williams and Breshad Perriman if only for the negligent competition scattered across the rest of Detroit's depth chart.

Speaking of the Lions, it's pretty amazing to see all the favorable hype T. J. Hockenson is getting leading into the '21 season. With Detroit's crap group of receivers, it's pretty much being accepted as a given that T. J. will lead the team in targets and may well break through into Kittle/Kelce territory. Would be great to see it happen. Jared Goff certainly had no qualms about targeting Cooper Kupp frequently (and Tyler Higbee at times), so if Goff throws often to Hockenson, and maybe even Chad Hansen, the Lions will be more palatable to watch than they've been in a long time, maybe since Mike Furrey's one and only big year -- 98 catches for 1,086 yards back in 2006.

Hansen played for one year with Goff under center at Cal as well. That will hopefully bode well for Hansen in Detroit.

Maybe Goff put in a good word for Hansen.

Good point! That certainly can’t hurt his chances for quality snaps.

Alex Anzalone is currently listed as one of Detroit's starting inside backers and according to one source I checked should be on the field for all three downs. His acquisition by the Lions has been an under the radar surprise, especially for a team that for a long time often hasn't had any White defensive players, even as backups. Injuries have always been Anzalone's bugaboo so hopefully he can stay healthy and have a great season.

Good to see Anzalone resurface as a starter in Detroit @Don Wassall . Agreed, he can be a sideline to sideline type LB IF he can stay healthy. Also nice to see The Lion's with an overachiever on Defense, has been a while!!

Chad Hansen cut. Even after proving himself more than capable last year of being a starting WR in the league he gets cut on a team with a roster filled with black scrub WRs.

So blatant what was done to Hansen by Houston and Detroit, maybe the two teams with the weakest groups of receivers, after he proved himself last season when finally given an opportunity. Poor Chad just didn't have the "locker room vibe."

The Lions are calling it an injury settlement, which may or may not be true. Hadn't heard of Chad being hurt so call me dubious.

Just when we thought Hansen was breaking through, he's been treated like crap! His window is sadly closing.

That being said, maybe Tom Kennedy can make the roster. 8 receptions for 107yards, leading Lions in receiving so far this preseason.. For what that is worth. Typical caste speak calling Kennedy "small" at 5'10 195. They also pigeon hole him as strictly a Slot WR.

It sounds like the oft-injured 1st round bust Perriman may be on the fringes of the roster as well. Kennedy has been a good preseason player for the past few seasons. I hope he gets a roster spot.

Well The Lions suck once again. At least their coach is somewhat interesting!

I didn't watch the Steelers-Lions tie, but this Pittsburgh columnist calls it "the most ridiculous football game ever played." That seems to be the sentiment of the other sports wags in Pittsburgh. Don't know how it's being portrayed in Detroit since the Lions didn't actually lose for once, but it must have been a tough game for anyone to endure who watched the whole thing, even hard-core DWFs. But the players still get their big fat paychecks no matter how pathetically they play:

@Don Wassall twitter feed is full of Pittsburgh DWFs blaming anyone and everyone! I've even seen DWFs trashing supa afflete Devin Bush.

Lions fans are probably just like "eh" at least it wasn't a loss lol.

Mike Tomlin is getting roundly criticized again for idiotic coaching decisions and yes Bush is now being recognized as a likely big-time bust. Wearing an outfit the night he was drafted that some called a dress should have been the first tip-off.

This is the Lions thread, but I'll just say the Steelers' schedule gets much more difficult from here on out and there's a good chance this might be Tomlin's first losing season. That's the one thing his defenders keep harping on in his defense because there's precious little else to fall back on after the past several years of late season collapses, playoff misses and first round playoff flops.

Lions have a legitimate shot at DE Aidan Hutchinson. 6'6 265 4.6 speed and 4.07 short shuttle. Crazy agility. Plus the stats to back it up. Could keep a bonafide Superstar In-State.. We'll see, could Kickstart their Franchise.

Detroit media agrees that the Steelers game was a very poorly played game. There were a lot of things that helped. The Steelers playing a back up, Goff being partially injured, and the sloppy weather.

The Lions are just plain bad. They played a QB that could hardly throw because they have no confidence in the back up, the regular kicker was out, and instead of signing an NFL retread they brought in a kid who was unable to handle the pressure.

The worst thing for the Steelers was their coach. How does he not try the FG with 15 seconds and no time outs? there are so many things that can go wrong, penalty, yardage loss, failure to get the kick off, and turn over, which happened. The guys an idiot.

The Lions have been selected for the Hard Knocks show this year. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they end up drafting the black quarterback at 2 in order to create drama for the show.

That would be an incredibly illogical and stupid move, but this is today's NFL and these are the Lions. Not much surprises me anymore.

The Lions are lucky to have a franchise quarterback in Jared Goff and the #2 overall pick. I still think they got the better end of the deal in the blockbuster trade with the Rams even though the Rams got a Super Bowl win out of it. The Lions don't seem keen on trading the #2 pick for more selections (seems to be a weak year for getting good deals in that area), so operating on the assumption that they're going to hold on to it, there's growing speculation that Aidan Hutchinson will still be available. If he is, they should absolutely take him. Given that Hutchinson is a Michigan native, it would be a great story in addition to being a great pick.

Taking any quarterback, even a White one, with the #2 overall pick would be extremely foolish for the Lions. They need to declare Goff the unquestioned starter and build the team around him, on offense and defense.

Leo mentioned Detroit has signed DE John Cominsky. Nice signing to pair with Hutchinson down the road!

Could the Motor City Kitties make a playoff push this year? I guess it's not impossible. I'm bullish on Hutchinson out of the gate, and I like that they picked a "weapon" (no homo) for Goff with pick #12. The Vikings got blacker at every position save their three white former All-Pros. The Bears could be the worst team in the NFL despite their genius mulatto quarterback, who has all the potential of Michael Jordan and Mike Ditka combined. (I guess I should acknowledge that Daniel Jones seems to be receiving a similarly long leash in the wake of his abysmal supporting cast). Anyway, the Bears suck and should be two wins for everyone else in the division. The last "wild card" is the Packers, or should I say the Blackers, who also aren't really better despite the return of Aaron Rodgers. Get to seven wins by Week 13 and now we're talking, baby!
