I agree, also it's more specifically American trained black athletes. Obviously I'm not niave enough to think that white sprinters aren't on anabolics/growth hormone too. But these drug cocktails work better for black sprinters. All you have to do is look at Ben Johnson who became a beast on them yet was a mediocre prospect as a junior(for the world level). The worst feeling in my life is seeing a 1-2-3 USA sweep in the 100 meter race or the 200 meter race as the Americans always look the largest of all the sprinters. Yet in the old days they had the same builds as everyone else.....SteveB said:Here is an interesting observation. Throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, you had guys like Greene, Cason, Gatlin, etc. with world leading times of 6.40 - 6.50 sec in the 60M. The governing bodies crack down on PEDs, the times go up, and all of the sudden whites are again competitive in the 60m again.
Seems to support our belief all along that the perceived black domination of the sprints during the late 1980's through early 2000's were chemically enhanced. Only time and continued enforcement of the drug policies will prove this out.
With luck a sub 10 would have happened in the last few years. Macro would have had one with any wind or humidity and Shirvington could have done the same under the right circumstances. What would mean more to me is a series of flat 10's and a solid breakthrough like what Patrick Johnson did a few years ago before he disappeared into relative mediocrity again.white lightning said:You bring up an interesting point. In their minds and in most peoples minds,it is not possible.Usually you will hear things like he must be part black. They just can't comprehend the possility that a white sprinter could actually be that fast.Even most whites or any other race for that matter have a tough time imagining it.I have said for years that whites can compete. We need several to go sub 10 in the next 5 to 10 years.Only when this happens, along with guys like Wariner can we make a little progress in changing peoples perceptions.I have said for a while now that I have a bottle of really good champagne just waiting to be poured in honor of the first white sprinter to go sub 10! I also hope Wariner trys to go sub 20 in the 200 this year.He can do it if he gets a few more races under his belt at that distance.
