Craig Pickering

I think Craig is fine in that department. He has been with the same girlfriend since he was a teenager. They now live together and I imagine they will get married eventually. She used to do athletics a long time ago.

Craig like Ramil and Christophe needs to get to work on his drive phase. He popped up so quick you would think he was standing at attention for a marine sargent! I wonder if it might have been from his back trouble and he had a tight hamstring too. Maybe physically he had to run upright quicker. He was so far down after 30 meters to the whole field that he had no chance of coming back. I do give him credit however for attempting to close on the pack. He has always had great speed endurance. Craig needs to stay healthy and then to get his drive phase back. Then we will see him get his times back down where they should be.

Craig was named to the British squad for the 4*100 meters. Most likely he will be an alternate who will run in the early rounds. If the British squad wins a medal in the final he will earn a medal though. Here is the rest of the squad.......http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/athletics/14458897.stm

Here is a new article about Craig Pickering. I have to agree with Campbell. He needs to get his confidence back so that he has that swagger again. In the documentary "Sprint", he was at his prime at only 19-20 years of age. Then it went downhill. Hoping that he can return to form this summer. The guy really deserves a break as murphys law has been especially cruel to him.

so true! he needs confidence. the mental aspect of the 100 has to be there or you might as well not run. I hope he sorts it out this years. at 25 five he still has a few good years in him, and I know he has what it takes to break 10. go Craig!

Don't give up on Craig Pickering just yet! He is back training on the track again a full two months ahead of schedule after back surgery. This kid is hungry again. The British Sprinters outside of Gemeli are all average at best. Pickering should have a chance to make the team if he can return to his form of 2007-2008. I still root for this kid has he has had a very tough road with so many bad breaks. I hope some how some way that he will be the comeback story of the year in 2013! Here is the article. Yes, nice to hear Craig's on the comeback trail. His old enemy Simeon Williamson just had a decent season after two years out with injury. And like white lightning said, other than Gemili there's not much to British sprinting. Chambers and Lewis-Francis are past it, and the likes of Aikines-Areetey, Williamson and Edgar aren't all that.

It is a shame but I'm not suprised. Look at how little support he has received from U.K. Athletics. They cut his funding despite him playing by all of the rules. Other than Gemeli, most of their guys are old and washed up. Williamson will never be the same. He can't even stay in shape let alone be a world class sprinter! I almost wonder if it's a racial discrimination thing against Craig. They black balled Richard Kilty too last year after he was their best sprinter other than Gemeli over both the 100 & 200 meters. Both of these guys have so much talent and it's just a damn shame that they can't get the support they needed. I wish both of them would have went and ran for Scottland or Ireland. They still appreciate white sprinters there. I do wish him well though and I will continue to root for Craig at the Winter Games.

I guess the only slight hope left is that he will compete indoors. Maybe if he gets back to his old ways indoors, he will reconsider. If not then he has picked a great sport to go into. Good luck Craig.

I think that's why he is competing indoors to leave that window open. I wonder if he is doing the exercises for pushing will it overdevelop his upper body and slow him down for sprinting. I have noticed that he looks very muscled, if he were to add more mass to his frame the chances for success as a sprinter would diminish.

I actually like this plan better. As I think it would be easier to qualify as an A card athlete in the bobsled. The only downside I see is that he has to rely on his teammates(primarily the driver). So essentially his bobsled work in the off season can subsidize his track work in the spring and summer.....:thumb:
