Well, they're dragging their ass on getting stats and video posted tonight, so I'll probably wait until tomorrow.
But until then, I came across this great article about Cory. It's the kind of feature that should be appearing on ESPN or at least the Rivals front page. Not just an Oregon sports website.

http://www.oregonlive.com/prepsports/oregonian/index.ssf?/ba se/sports/1193801138304310.xml&coll=7&thispage=1

It's too long to repost the whole thing here, but I did want to include an important part.

Still, McCaffrey has gone largely unnoticed by Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I) colleges. Air Force Academy offered him a scholarship, but McCaffrey isn't sure if a military academy, and all of the requirements that go with it, is for him.

He has received opportunities to walk on at other large colleges, despite Bones and Macauley doing their best to send game tape around the country.
Sisters resident Dan Fouts, a former NFL quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, also has helped spread the word about McCaffrey to colleges.

"It's stressful more than anything," McCaffrey said. "I just want to know where I'm going and not worry about it. Pretty much if I got an offer from a Division I school, I'd probably take it."

Macauley acknowledged he's been more frustrated by the recruiting process than his standout player has been. He believes that McCaffrey's size and playing at the Class 4A level creates unnecessary doubts.

"The scouts don't come through here because we're off the beaten path," Macauley said. "Colleges look at a kid and automatically categorize him, and that's too bad. My hope is that an Oregon school would keep one of the best athletes in the history of Oregon in-state. He'll be successful wherever he goes and at whatever level he goes.

"You can't tell him he can't do something because he'll do it. His bags are packed and all he's waiting for is a safe port to say, 'You're our guy.'"

Cory isn't being unreasonable. He'll go play for crappy Idaho or Florida International. He just wants to play D1 football. But nobody will take a second look at him. I'm glad to hear that Fouts is trying to help. But I don't think it will do any good.

They finally got around to posting results.

Game 10:
W 69-0
205 yards 13 carries, 4TD

With all of the 'mercy rule' games this season, Cory has really only played the equivalent of 5 or 6 full games. He's never in the game in the second half. Unfortunately, that will likely suppress his final season statistics (and he needs all the help he can get to impress Colleges). Also, they have a bye in the first round of the playoffs, so that's one more game that he won't get.

Playoff game #2
W 50-46
229 yards, 3TD (no mention of carries)

This was a shootout until the end, with Cory scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 45 seconds left to play.
In more good news, Cory reached yet another statistical milestone last night as he crossed the 8,000 yard mark for his career. He now stands at 8,144 yards. That ought to open some eyes.

Well, I was just about to post.
They haven't won the state title yet. That game is next week.
But, Cory's team did win their semifinal matchup today in a thriller 50-49.
Cory ran for 227 yards on 26 carries and scored 3TD.
I didn't watch the Civil War game, so I don't know what they talked about, but today Cory was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Oregon. He's now eligible for the Gatorade National Player of the Year award.
Here's an article about the honor.
Cory McCaffrey - Gatorade Player of the Year
I hope FINALLY Cory can get some national recognition.

Thats what the hubbub was about then, the POTY award. I was up all night last night and am at about 25% today. Sorry for the confusion. Rough last couple of days for the Colonel.

Colonel Reb, I heard the comments about Corey during the Oregon-Oregon State game as well. Dan Fouts made them, he seemed to be a very strong advocate of Corey's abilities. Hopefully, Fouts can help Corey get a legit opportunity as an RB at a major university. We need more white ex-players to go to bat for young white players during the recruiting process.

For example, if Craig James utilized his fame and connections in Texas, imagine how many 5A white star high school players would be getting Division I offers to play skill positions.

It was mentioned in the article I linked above.
Fouts lives in Cory's hometown. He has 'recruited' himself to assist in spreading Cory's name and accomplishments about, trying to help Cory land a D1A scholarship.
The sad thing is Cory shouldn't need any assistance. He's the best player in the state. Ever. And maybe the top statistical running back in high school football this year (considering his limited playing time due to blowouts). Every BCS school should be lined up at his door.

Riddlewire, I saw your earlier post listing the schools that seem to be interested in Corey. Do you know where he seems to be leaning now? It would be nice to have him sharing the backfield with Locker at Washington. How interested is he in Colorado?

This article (from less than a week ago) tells you pretty much everything as it is. Cory isn't overly modest. He believes he's the best. Although it's not specifically stated by him, I suspect he most wants to play for the Ducks. However, considering the only game left is the state championship, and there's really nothing left for him to acheive, and offers STILL aren't coming to him, I figure he will most likely have to walk-on. I don't think he will take a D1AA scholly. And he shouldn't.

That's a good question. It's not because they don't allow fan filming at games. Cory's quarterback has a very lengthy video of his highlights up on Youtube (He's damned good, too). Articles report that his mother has sent videos to schools. I wonder if she just isn't aware of Youtube and its power. It's a bit late to get started now. Scholarships are being offered and accepted. There's just not enough time to build up any word-of-mouth internet support for Cory. I have mentioned his name and linked to the news highlights page of him a few times on message boards whenever the discussion turns to this year's recruiting class. But that largely goes unnoticed. If Rivals and Scout don't list you in the top 100-250, people just ignore you.

yeah youre probably right. its too late to get a word of mouth campaign. i wish the North Texas coach would offer him a scholarship being that he played so many whites at Southlake Carroll, but judging from his recruit list he's embracing the caste system whole heartedly.

Gentlemen:

I'mextremelybothered that a player with the credentials of Corey McCaffrey would have to even consider being a walk on. What a degrading result of the Caste System.

With the coaching carousel currently occuring in college football, there will be a number of players de-committing and opportunities will arise.

No excuses, Corey McCaffrey has earned a Division I scholarship. This is an atrocity. Nevada, Colorado, Washington State, or any school with a history of playing whites needs to get its head out of the sand.

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Riddlewire. I was unaware of this egregious wrong. I will do what I can to get his name out, for what it's worth.

Well, I wish I had learned about this sooner.

Not looking good right now. Marist just scored again, making the score 29-21, with just a few minutes left in the game.

Cory is having the worst game of his career.
The game is almost over. Cory only has 100 yards, and he just fumbled for the fourth time. The other team can now just run out the clock.

Game over.
Sisters (Cory's team) loses to Marist, 36-28.
They just couldn't keep Marist off the field. Marist runs a near exact clone of the West Virginia offense. They held onto the ball the whole second half.

I don't think he's going to get one. Not from a D1A school, anyway. They have to offer everyone pretty early if they want to get in on the 'good' recruits. It's possible that some recruits will end up ineligible and that will open up a scholarship for Cory, but, even then, he's probably behind a long list of running backs who are more appropriately tinted.

Yeah I'm afraid he'll have to walk on to some D1-A program and languish on the scout team.

According to Rivals, Cory has an offer from Portland St and Air Force with some interest from Idaho St and Oregon. I don't know how he feels about military service, but that Air Force offer is looking pretty good to me.
