In other comical football news, Florida has discontinued the gator bait chant because there is "horrific racist imagery associated with the chant". This is getting ridiculous

What a ridiculous list of “demands”! It reminds me of a Seinfeld meme. Every time Kramer would have a corporation by the balls in a frivolous lawsuit, he’d settle for a year of free coffee, or his picture on a billboard. And his lawyer just shaking his head, what an idiot.

Former NIU DE Matt Lorbeck has transferred to Iowa. Lorbeck will be joining his former DL teammate Jack Heflin who also transferred from NIU to Iowa.

This is probably superflous since there probablt wont be a season but looking at current ourlads depth charts Standords cb , Ethan Bonner and their talented 5 white wrs are not even on the 2 deep. Three black freshmen are listed on the 2 deep at cb. Just pathetic. I would say in the next two or three years the white cb will be officially extinct from college football. At least the white rb has made a slight comeback because even in the late 90s there were very few playing D 1.

Honestly the CB situation has been pretty much the same as far back as I can remember. White CBs have been on the verge of full on extinction since I joined this site.

A bit of good running back news...Updated June depth charts have Groshek, Horvath, Epstein, McDaniel and Trotter as starters......Borghi and Remsberg have always been....Funk listed number two for Maryland.....McChesney (BYU), third....Those are a few of the main guys I was concerned about....Didn’t look everyone up this early in the morning.

If Groshek starts for Wisconsin that would be huge. He plays in the Big Ten against good defenses and will be on tv quite alot. I can't remember that last time the Badgers had a white starting running back. Maybe not even in my life time!

Also happy about Horvath and Epstein who is electric when healthy. Hope his body can hold up. Trotter is also great news. I hope we are able to have college football this year as it just could be the year of the white rb's. That would be great! :)

definitely agree with you except there aren’t many elite defenses in the big 10, maybe only one actually.

Okay maybe not elite defenses, not many of those in all of CFB. Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern, and Wisconsin all very stout defenses year in and out year out. Even Michigan State is usually solid on D.

just for the sake of good football debate, Iowa and northwestern are rarely very stout and Wisconsin is usually solid but not often elite and the same is true for Michigan. Ohio state has elite playmakers and talents at each level but often they lay goose eggs and rarely end up elite. I like big ten football but the lack of great passing attacks kinda helps their defenses look better on paper than they are. Purdue often has the kind of passing game to test the whole field but not many others except Ohio state may be entering that style.

I’m a huge Wisconsin fan btw but Roll Tide

Disagree on Iowa - they are a very good, consistent defense - they always seem to show up big in bowl games against the SEC and have upset some of the more explosive offenses in the Big Ten. Sparty is another solid defensive team. I would argue the Big Ten from top to bottom has the best collection of defensive teams for any of the Power 5 conferences. The Big 12 is the biggest joke when it comes to defense in all of college football, the Pac 12 isn't that great either from top to bottom and the ACC/SEC are top heavy. The media promotes the south as the epicenter of college football and BSPN will continue to hype up teams from the south - it used to be Florida St, Florida and Miami - now it is Alabama, UGA and Clemson.

Per sports reference.com Iowa was ranked 5th in team defense, Ohio St 4th, Penn State 8th, Wisconsin 10th. The Big Ten does still run the ball though so I will give you that in terms of not playing a more wide open offensive style.

the media promotes the south because the SEC wins more head to head and has the best bowl records plus puts the most players in the NFL by far. The SEC has the best defenses top to bottom and honestly, it is even close. Iowa always shows up big vs the SEC? Not according to the facts...they are .500 and a losing record in bowl games. Iowa would be a middle of the pack team in the SEC but again I don’t dislike Iowa football. They just don’t consistently have to skill players nor depth to be a top tier program. Let’s not forget the bias against the 60’s thru the pre-Saban days.

However, yes, these days there are blatant issues which keep programs like Iowa and Wisconsin and Nebraska from becoming top tier...btw absolutely no excuses for Nebraska. They self destructed, unreal. Wisconsin is a great program but they haven’t reached elite status yet but they could if they went all in with our boys.

The clothing is one thing but some of the rap lyrics might be forbidden on campuses. Raping, robbing and killing are glorified in many rap "songs".

Gentlemen, will college football be played as usual or will there be fewer games played and will some smaller schools get rid of the sport due to the virus issue?

As of now it sounds like the season is going to be played in it's entirety. It does sound like alot of colleges are going to be in some dire financial straits do to the whole COVID-19 thing - how it impacts sports, especially football will be interesting. Alot of colleges/universities may not survive and Football is not a moneymaker for many of the middle and lower tier division 1 schools.

There goes a good chunk of our lower level skill positions. Its also a dangerous domino to fall in canceling football in general.

Sounds like the Ivy League is cancelling football this fall. Nothing definitive has been established for Division 1. Ivy League schools can survive a pandemic - some of the lower rung schools may not - Stanford has cut 11 sports.

I heard talk of spring football, but schools that don't have a huge economic interest in football or basketball which starts up in November will pull the plug quickly. I can see some smaller regional conferences like the MAC playing if the Corona numbers keep on dwindling in this region but in the south, southwest and California cancelling football has to be on the cards.

Ohio State and North Carolina have paused football practices because of Corona. Not looking good, momentum is on the side of the alarmists.

If colleges shut down football, is there a reason for the black scholarship football players to be on campus? I would guess with each team there's at least a few who would be real students. I was happy to see that Stanford shut down a bunch of stupid "sports."
