Brian Robison is attempting to make the U.S. shot-put team for the 2012 Olympics. Robison is obviously very strong and was also the fastest defensive lineman at the Combine in 2007. He has been very productive in limited playing time with the Vikings and of course has a "non-stop motor," but somehow hasn't replaced the injury prone turd Ray Edwards as the team's starting end opposite Jared Allen.

Robison will eventually be "allowed" to start, and the DWFs will be surprised how good he is, but in the meantime his racial apprenticeship continues.

i feel this guy is as talented a rusher as there is in the league. he still is somewhat raw, but the more he plays the better he will become with his kind of athleticism.

Due to Ray Edwards beingless thanthe player he is hyped to be, Robison's "racial apprenticeship" may be speeded up a bit:

LINEUP WATCH: DE Brian Robison served as a backup to Pro Bowl right end Jared Allen last season and also showed his versatility by moving inside on certain passing downs. Robison, who is 6-3, 267 pounds, has been working hard this offseason and appears ready to compete with left end Ray Edwards for a starting spot. The key would be how Robison holds up against the run, but there seems to be a confidence he could handle that aspect of things.

That would be great if Robison could start underachiever turd Ray Edwards. It would bring the Vikings defensive white starters up to 4 then, more than most teams. If the Vikes could get rid of horrible Tavaris Jackson, they'd be a Super Bowl threat.Edited by: Jack Lambert

JL, if the Vikings sign Favre (which appears likely), Turdvaris will be the odd man out....as the Vikings will certainly keep Favre, Rosenfels, and Booty on their roster.

The sky is the limit for Brian Robinson. He has all the athletic ability in the world for his position and if he is given a fair chance he will be a Pro Bowler in the near future.

Ray Edwards-DL- Vikings Jul. 17 - 8:43 pm et

Brian Robison is expected to push Ray Edwards for the starting left defensive end job this summer.

Robison impressed the staff during spring practices and "clearly has his eye set on winning a starting role." Despite Edwards' boast last summer that he would break the single-season sack record, he does not have a clear talent edge on Robison.

He seemed to injure his leg while on special teams coverage in the late 3rd quarter of the Dallas game.
Any word on the extent of the injury?

A rational thinker atBleacher Report makes the case that the Vikings should let the over-rated, moronic Ray Edwards (who was boasting in 2008 that he was going to break the all-time single season sack record; he ended the season with 5) sign elsewhere as a restricted free agent and let Brian Robison replace him as the starter opposite Jared Allen, something that should have been done years ago. Some of the commenters after the article agree, but others call Edwards "insanely athletic," a "beast," etc.

Would be great to see the wildly over-rated Ray Edwards leave the Vikings as it should end the racial apprenticeship of Brian Robison -- though Brad Childress may be constituionally incapable of starting four Whites on defense:

The Delaware County Times expects the Eagles to pursue Vikings restricted free agent DE Ray Edwards. The Eagles are unlikely to part with the necessary first-round pick to land Edwards with an expensive offer sheet, but they could explore trade talks with the Vikings. Though Edwards was expected to draw interest after a monster postseason effort, he's been far from elite among pass rushers the past few seasons. The Saints are also said to be interested in Edwards.

Brad Childress is determined to make the immensely talented Robison a career backup, but way over-rated Ray Edwards, the starter ahead of Robison, appears just as determined to over-value himself and end up elsewhere. Keep staying away, Ray, keep staying away!

Ray Edwards may be third fiddle on the defensive line for the Minnesota Vikings, but that doesn't seem to matter to him in his offseason stance.

The veteran defensive end is among the many players in every city that was snagged by the CBA and prevented from reaching the open market. Edwards received the first-round tender offer from the team and predictably no one made a run at him as a restricted free agent. He's scheduled to earn $2.5 million this season and that doesn't cut it as far as he is concerned.

So Edwards is going to stay away. As long as he can. That means he doesn't plan on attending the club's mandatory minicamp from June 11-13, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, one that is only mandatory to players under contract. Unless Edwards does a 180 between now and then, he will not be under contract as he's yet to sign his tender offer. He can wait until June 15 to put his name to paper before the club can reduce the offer.

Edwards has passed on the voluntary offseason program to this point. He had 8 ½ sacks last season and added four more in two playoff games, but he's also benefits from more solo blocks than the man on the opposite side â€" Jared Allen. Add defensive tackle Kevin Williams into the mix, and it's clear Edwards is the third-most valuable man on the line. Would his statistics be inferior with other players around him? That would make for a healthy debate.

It's unlikely the Vikings plan on sinking big money in him, not with Brian Robison as an option and not after getting a value selection in the draft when USC's Everson Griffen dropped to the fourth round. The only thing left for Edwards to do is wait to sign his tender and then play so well the team has no choice but to pay him.

Everson Griffen will now jump B Rob as the starter in no time making him a backup like Gerhart will be in Caste Hell.

noooo! that won't happen. Robison has too much talent, and because of the likes of Kerney, Allen, Kampman and Smith DE is a respectable position for whites, even in the eyes of DWF.

Robison got the start yesterday for an injured Ray Edwards and had a nice game with 2 fumble recoveries, 1 pass defensed, 1 tackle and 2 assists. Unfortunately, his racial apprenticeship is now well into its fourth year -- and counting.

Robison is an unrestricted free agent. Hopefully he and his agent are smart enough to see if there is a team willing to sign him to starter's money. If he re-signs with the Vikings he's doomed to be the newest version of Jared DeVriesand Chris Hoke, a player talented enough to start but who spends (wastes) his career as a backup in the organization that drafted him.

Will Robinson finally become a starter?

<div ="re">

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Judd Zulgad believes the
Vikings have a better chance to re-sign free agent DE Brian Robison than
free agent DE Ray Edwards.

</div>
<div ="impact">
"I really don't think Edwards returns," insists Zulgad.
Re-signing the starting left end just isn't in the cards with so much
money committed to the rest of the Vikings' defensive line and
linebacker crew. Robison should be quite a bit cheaper. The
28-year-old is coming off a two-sack season.

Robison re-ups with the Vikings for good money; but does it mean the end of his prolonged racial apprenticeship? He thinks it is.

<H1 id=articleTitle =articleTitle>Vikings lock up defensive end Brian Robison with three-year, $14.1 million deal</H1>
<DIV id=articleByline =articleByline>By Jeremy Fowler

Instead of splurging on high-profile free agents Sidney Rice and Chad Greenway, the Vikings started the in-house long-term extension process with a key backup.
<DIV id=article =article>

Defensive end Brian Robison believes his growth during four years in Minnesota led to a three-year, $14.1 million contract extension Thursday that includes a $6.5 million signing bonus.

Despite seven starts in 63 games, Robison said he combated his frustration for a larger role with a relentless work ethic. He worked on becoming more versatile as an end or tackle, and on stopping the run for the Vikings. He refused to get caught up in complaining.

Playing two snaps in a game against Green Bay last season was almost a breaking point, Robison said, but he tried to "handle it all with class."

That made contract negotiations easier, he said. And the positive outlook helped him greatly increase his $550,000 salary from 2010.

"I didn't go off the deep end, even though sometimes I might have felt like it," Robison said from a celebratory rodeo in his hometown of Houston. "I just did my business and moved along. Guys respect you that way as opposed to getting frustrated."

Though the entire $14.1 million contract is not guaranteed, the 6-foot-3, 259-pound Robison said he's confident in his ability to obtain his standard option clauses.

Robison's signing suggests defensive end Ray Edwards will no longer be a Viking should he be an unrestricted free agent once a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.

The Vikings on Wednesday placed first-round tenders on Edwards and Rice, offering one-year deals reported to be worth anywhere from $2.8 million to $3.5 million. Rice, who reportedly wants to test the open market, also could be unrestricted next season.

Since all NFL teams have been operating under the guidelines of an uncapped year in the current CBA, any free agent with less than six years of service can be retained by his own team under a one-year tender.

But Edwards has made it clear that he wants a long-term deal â€" either in Minnesota or somewhere else.

Robison, offensive lineman Ryan Cook and safety Husain Abdullah received second-round tenders worth close to $2 million, though Robison's tender is now moot.

Linebacker Erin Henderson and safety Eric Frampton, two anchors on the Vikings' special teams coverage, received right of first refusal tenders that are worth a little more than $1 million.

Greenway, arguably the team's top free-agent priority, signed a one-year franchise tender that should pay around $10 million.

As of Thursday night, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, fullback Naufahu Tahi, defensive tackle Fred Evans, wide receiver Hank Baskett and running back Albert Young had not been tendered by the team.

Robison's deal marks the Vikings' first step toward securing their current players for the long term. The Vikings like the versatility of Robison, who recorded 15 tackles and two sacks last season as Edwards' backup.

Robison said he feels confident that this is his chance to finally start in the league, even though he played "hard to get" with the Vikings despite wanting to stay with the team.

"It feels like a lot of pressure off my back," said Robison, who has 13 1/2 career sacks since 2007. "They definitely told me I was a priority they wanted to get done; they wanted to keep me in Minnesota. That meant a lot."

The Vikings were not expected to use a restricted tender on Jackson, once deemed the franchise quarterback by former coach Brad Childress. Jackson acknowledged after the regular season that his future in Minnesota was uncertain at best.

In five seasons with the Vikings, Jackson completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 3,984 yards and 24 touchdowns, with 22 interceptions and a 76.6 passer rating.

The Vikings also have not released any players in the face of a lockout, though NFL teams have an extra 24 hours to shed bloated contracts. The current CBA was scheduled to expire at 11 p.m. CST Thursday.<BR style="CLEAR: both">

Another article on Robison, who will be paid starter's money in 2011. There's a poll on how many sacks fans think he'll get; so far only 19% think he'll get less than 7, which is a nice vote of confidence from the DWFs. Robison should have been starting all along but at least he's finally getting an opportunity now.

Good riddance, the guy has a few good games and isn't happy with a couple of million? His performance was a product of teams having to worry about Allen, and the Williams wall does manage to clog up blockers. I don't think teams have figured out that if you leave the fatter one unblocked that it would still take him 4 to 5 seconds to get to the quarterback, if the qb is standing still.

I think it would be wise to put Allen on the left side, hes the kind of guy that will get sacks no matter what, and hes got the weight to handle bigger right tackles, Robison could play the right side

Robison set to start at DE for the Vikings...From the article:

"Most significant is the promotion of Robison, who has started just seven games since the Vikings drafted him in the fourth round in 2007. The team demonstrated its faith in the 28-year-old Texan by signing him to three-year, $14.1 million contract extension during the offseason and showing Edwards the door.
"With Brian, we don't expect a drop down," Allen said. "The challenge for him is learning the scenarios of playing every down. He's got tremendous talent. He has all the pieces to the puzzle. Now he just has to put them together consistently over and over.""

My Take: If Gerhart gets 1/4-1/3 of the team's tailback carries this year this could be a team to root for (even with McNabb and a black coach getting some of the glory). I wonder if Frazier might be another Jim Caldwell or Tony Dungy? (ie. a semi fair black who is truely grateful for his shot to be an NFL coach and has at least "some" respect for white players abilites and whites in general). In the future it would be a better roster move (ie. tactical salary cap move) to let AP leave via FA when his contract expires and go with Gerhart.

I've been saying for years that Robison should have started over Ray Edwards, but Robison was forced to suffer through a ridiculous four year racial apprenticeship before finally getting his opportunity this season. And what a huge upgrade he's been over Edwards, who is now gracing the Falcons with his constant nagging injuries and inability to tackle and get to the passer.

So some of the best moves the front office makes are the players they don't sign. Let's just say that not signing Ray Edwards was a GENIUS move by the VIkings. Robison is a force, and Edwards has all but fallen off the face of the earth. Robison registered two more sacks on Sunday, and is now in the top 10 with 4.5 sacks on the season, while Edwards has 3.5 more tackles than Robison has sacks. And Allen has .5 sack more than Edwards has tackles. Just...wow. http://www.dailynorseman.com/2011/1...s-arizona-cardinals-recap-stock-market-report http://www.dailynorseman.com/2011/1...s-arizona-cardinals-recap-stock-market-report
