JT, are those the season numbers for both guys? That's awesome, if so! Steven Jackson was the consensus #2 back in the league coming into this season, and here it is Leonard has done better than he in every category, on the same number of carries!

I had to check on those numbers. They are this year's totals for both.  Who would have guessed?  Not only that, but Brian has 0 fumbles compared to 3 for Jackson.

yup you can clearly see it <a href="http://www.nfl.com/stats/headtohead?player1=JAC560875&player2=LEO380682&player3=null&player4=null&position=runningback&playerOne=Steven+Jackson&playerTwo=Brian+Leonard&playerThree=Select+a+Player...&playerFour=Select+a+Player...</a target="_blank">here

Is it true he has never fumbled? http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=135382....I think the NFL will find that valuable in itself.

"Leonard has many impressive stats, including no fumbles during his college career: "Despite all his touches (678 rushing attempts and 207 receptions for 5,961 all-purpose yards and 45 touchdowns), and some risky and thrilling airborne maneuvers, he NEVER fumbled in his Rutgers career -- not once (though he did have a fumble recovery in his freshman year)."http://indianhillmediaworks.typepad.com/ru_ready/bria n_leonard/index.html

Here's Scott Linehan
smiley8.gif
on Leonard and Antonio Pittman:

"We signed[Pittman] when he was waived right before the season. The idea was, at some point, he was going to be potentially at that spot. I think the fact that we were now in a position where if (starting RB) Steven (Jackson) was back we could use (rookie FB/RB) Brian (Leonard) in primarily the fullback spot, which is why we drafted and brought him here. Pittman had enough time in our offense at this point and with the bye week to get him ready that he would be ready to be the No. 2 guy at the tailback spot. It's funny how much more motivated you are going back and playing the team that drafted you and had released you. I think that factored in it with me because I know it was added motivation for him to work that much harder going into this game and it was nice. It was a nice little change of pace. He still has a ways to go yet. He still has a lot of rookie things in him but he has grown up a lot since he has been here and hopefully it's going to be something that we can continue to do," the head coach said.

i wouldn't worry about it that much, if Linehan wasn't an idiot. Pittman had one long run, but on other 6 attempts he had... 6 yards. so he's not exactly the best option. he will get some carries, get nowhere and that's when they'll turn to Leonard.

This is not shocking at all; in fact, it is Caste System 101. Remember, we are talking about one of the least odious coaches in terms of adherence to the Caste System; Linehan is no Jack Del Rio or Brad Childress. Still, this "reaonable" coach continues to play the much bigger, faster and younger Drew Bennett behind slow, old, oft-injured Isaac Bruce and now is clearly going to do what Del Rio and most all other NFL coaches would have already done- move Leonard to his "natural" position of FB. This is the best we have at this point, which says a lot about how terrible the situation is.

I now honestly believe that within a decade the NFL could be all black, except for a handful of specially exempt white QBs (think Favre or Brady) and all kickers, punters and long snappers. They will keep whites in those positions because they aren't considered "real" football players, and that will just emphasize things better to the drunk white fans. They will not mind at all. There really doesn't appear to be any saturation point to their insane worship of black players.

Gentlmen,

I agree with what you say about Brian Leonard getting a raw deal. However, somehow I think in his case, he's going to win out and become an excellent running back in the league. Somehow, things are just going to break his way.

I'll also make a prediction. Steven Jackson will get hurt again.

Jackson has gone from durable his first few seasons to injury prone this year (in fact, from observing the epidemic of hurt players anymore the assessment of "injury prone"deserves to be shifted as a stereotype from white football players to black ones).

Minor or Pittman may be able tomake an occasional flashy run but they are little more than journeymen at best. Leonard is a more solid all-around runner, not to mention a better receiver, and better at understanding the offense and picking up blitzes. But the Rams have to rebuild their offensive line away from lumbering sumo types (including injury-prone and over-rated Orlando Pace), because right now no running back can do well on this team.Edited by: Don Wassall

I have to laugh at all of this because did we really expect Leonard to be a HB and not a FB. The NFL is a broken record and the same old story. The white man always blocks for the black man.

trouble is if he does request a trade he will always (despite his talent and ability and because of his skin tone) be a full back

this is the NFL guys where color doesnt matter and everyone has the same chance to compete (unless your white that is

I must mention that Pittman was rated high on a lot of draft boards though at RB, on a couple as high as 3rd. Also Leonard is similar as a runner to Jackson IMO, but a slightly less talented version. Amazingly Leonard has done almost as well as Jackson so far this year with worse play calling and a o-line that continues to regress with injuries by day. Jackson has been in a slump. We'll see how Jackson does with yet another injury on the o-line with Incognito out.

I still think Leonard could be a good cutback power runner with the speed to bounce it to the outside once in a while in this league. There are numerous blacks like Lendale White and Cedric Benson every year that manage their 3.6 YPC or so behind much better O-lines than Leonard has played behind, who remain starters for years; Sickening!

Edited to Add: I am hoping that Leonard will show enough in the next couple years that they let Jackson walk via free agency and let Leonard take over as the starting HB in 2010. In reality I'm probably just dreaming though.

BTW I think Tre Smith, and "maybe" Dan Burks, Kyle Steffes and Ryan Engelbert are better than Leonard. It's unfortunate that the impressions of drunken white fans of white RBs ride solely on Leonard's shoulders.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

also some extra quotes

Upon Jackson's return, Leonard went back to his role at fullback, a move that seems more permanent with the emergence of Pittman.

That's a much better role for him, not that he can't be our tailback. He's proven he can get 100 yards in an NFL game. That role is well suited for him."

so coach give the guy the damm ball and let him do it more often

the real test to see what happens if jackson goes down again and who becomes the starter

i wouldn bet the house it being brian unfortunately

I have a question. Is this the longest running thread in Caste Football history? We are nearing 50 pages.
