Brees has gone against his coach. You could see it on the sidelines just the other week, Payton wanted to play it safe and not go for the td, and Brees decided he wanted to run it in instead, there was a mini argument on the sideline, and Brees ran the ball in for a td.
To me the media seems to portray Favre as this fun loving small town country boy that isn't that bright, which is probably what they want fans to think about most White players. I think he is pretty intelligent, just a little on the silly side (which isn't a bad thing). They have done the same with Rivers in a few things I have seen, that he is some goofy country boy, I believe it was LT who has said this in several interviews. Most people I have talked to dislike both Favre and Rivers. I think they are both great qbs and deserve respect. The media's constant coverage of Favre has had the opposite effect on fans, which may have been their original intent.
